With a singular focus on increasing the naturalization rate in Massachusetts and beyond, Project Citizenship transforms the lives and futures of immigrants in the U.S.!  Our free legal services have enabled over 10,000 permanent residents to achieve U.S. citizenship since 2014.  By accepting the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, our new citizens achieve expanded opportunities, greater economic stability, family reunification, a voice in our democracy, and a deeper sense of belonging in this country.  We all benefit when immigrant groups are not isolated but are full participants in our social and civic life, creating more cohesive communities.

Project Citizenship focuses on those who would not be able to naturalize without assistance through the complex and lengthy process. We coach, we encourage, we inform, and we advocate for each client with the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Service (USCIS) - from application to Oath of Allegiance.  We submit requests for waivers of the USCIS application fee and for special consideration for clients who are older or who have a disability. The Project Citizenship community includes over 1,000 attorney volunteers and many local organizations who partner with us. Our clients have a remarkable 95% success rate in achieving citizenship.  Our work is at the intersection of economic vitality, civic engagement, and social justice.

Recognizing and tapping into the abundant resource of goodwill with a vision of shifting the paradigm of U.S. refugee resettlement, Hearts & Homes' mission is organized around the following mandates:  WELCOME, CONVENE, EDUCATE, ADVOCATE.  Hundreds of committed partner groups and trained volunteers have come together to welcome aspiring Americans to our communities in the Lower Hudson Valley and beyond.

Hearts & Homes for Refugees has been leading the welcoming movement, practicing and promoting the Community Sponsorship Model of Resettlement since 2016 when we resettled the first refugee family to Westchester County. Thanks to a dozen community sponsor groups and two Resettlement Agencies (HIAS and Catholic Charities) there are now nearly 100 resettled refugees in Westchester County. Hearts & Homes continues to mentor and coordinate volunteer groups or individuals, to seed more community sponsors to partner with resettlement agencies in resettling refugees. The time and resources offered by community sponsors to arriving refugees offer better chances for successful integration and independence. 

 To build on the welcoming momentum Hearts & Homes created additional programs that support our new neighbors, and create cross-cultural awareness and understanding about their journeys and needs. We empower our new neighbors with key life skills and needs such as housing and furnishings, language, driving, employment, education, and counseling assistance. The population we help includes traditional refugees, Special Immigration Visa holders (our allies from Afghanistan and Iraq), those seeking and granted asylum, and survivors of human trafficking.

In order to inspire, educate and equip others to welcome and advocate for refugees Hearts & Homes organized a dynamic network of more than 40 aligned groups in Westchester, and is a founding member of part of a national network of 24 sister community organizations. Over 2,000 volunteers are a critical piece of this scalable model for how to resettle, assist and advocate for our new neighbors. More than 800 of our new neighbors are directly impacted each year by the growing goodwill in our communities. Hearts & Homes for Refugees is lean but mighty.  We are building communities that offer refugees soft landings and support for better outcomes as aspiring Americans. We depend on the contributions of time and resources from like-minded volunteers and partners who believe everyone deserves a safe home and a hopeful future.

Amaanah's objective is to provide long-term assistance throughout the entire lifespan of our programs.

Amaanah's objective is to provide long-term assistance throughout the entire lifespan of our programs. From the initial stages of education and scholarships, through job preparedness and entry into the workforce, culminating in the full cycle of individuals becoming Amaanah Ambassadors.

Amaanah's focus is working with women and youth in the refugee community. We have the following programs to help support the long term integration of our refugee community: Teach 360, Lions Soccer Program, Big Sister Circle, Relief services, and Scholarships.

The teach 360 program is an in school support program for refugee students to focus on social, emotional, linguistic and academic support. This is a partnership with schools or the school district while tracking different data points to measure the success of the program.

The Lions program is a free soccer youth boys program aimed at building community through mentorship and sports. We have a dedicated group of volunteer coaches who train and coach the athletes. The program has been able to support students with scholarships for higher education as well. 

The Big Sister Circle is a program geared towards women in building community and also support the women through education. The women learn fundamental English grammar alongside meeting new friends in the community. This hybrid program bridges virtual community with in person life experiences. 

The relief program is geared at short term support. Amaanah can respond in time of natural disaster and support the community through supplies, care packages, financial support, and food support as well. We focus on holistic services to create a deeper impact.

We are devoted to abolishing immigration detention, while ending the isolation of people currently suffering in this system.

Freedom for Immigrants is a national nonprofit devoted to abolishing immigration detention through two main strategies, while ending the isolation of people currently suffering in this profit¬-driven system. First, we mobilize a network of 4,500 watchdog community members that uncovers and tracks abuses experienced by those in immigration detention, shedding light in a consistent manner for the first time on this hidden system. Second, we are modeling a community-based alternative to detention that welcomes immigrants into the social fabric of the United States. Through these windows into the system, we gather data and stories to combat injustice at the individual level and push systemic change.

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES:

​Special Needs Weekend Islamic School Programs: At four locations across Houston, children with special needs come weekly to the masjid to learn about their faith using an adapted curriculum and to be included in the community.

Teen Adult Program (TAP): This program helps individuals with special needs take the first step to adulthood by teaching them independent life skills in a supportive social environment.

Sakina Internship: This is a one year commitment for college age students who dedicate one day of the week serving individuals with special needs while learning about related topics.

Volunteer Enrichment Program: This is a volunteer buddy program for High School students.

Caregiver Support Groups: This allows mothers, fathers, and siblings of individuals with special needs to connect with others with similar life circumstances.

Inclusive Events: These events are equipped with accommodations creating a safe and welcoming environment to our special needs families.

Inclusion Training: We visit local Islamic schools, masaajid, and Scouts to train typical youth on accepting and including their brothers and sisters with disabilities.

Community Education: We conduct awareness events and workshops to educate the general community on disability awareness and early childhood intervention.

Caregiver Training: We conduct training sessions for our caregivers with local experts on topics such as educational advocacy, acquiring government benefits, and transition to adulthood for our caregivers

Dar-us-Sakina’s Zakat fund is transforming lives of struggling families with special needs right here in the Houston community.  The Zakat Fund is reserved for those special needs families that are in financial need and/or crisis.

• A homeless single mother of an unschooled child with severe autism now able to secure a steady job and income after having been supported through advocacy and appropriate school placement of her child

• An immigrant family with no insurance and severe language barriers provided an adaptive vehicle for conveyance of their previously home bound child with complex medical needs

• A burnt out special needs caregiver on the verge of collapse provided immediate respite and counseling to prevent emotional breakdown in order to continue her long term caregiving

• A refugee single special needs mother unable to secure a job due to bullying and inappropriate school placement of her child supported through advocacy to an improved educational setting and special ed bus services, allowing mom to go back to work 

* A low income special needs family repeatedly denied Medicaid assisted through case work and legal support now successfully receiving Medicaid that covers the child’s medical treatment, surgeries, and therapies

Friends of Be an Angel provides humanitarian aid & civilian evacuations for the most vulnerable in Ukraine during a time of war.

Friends of Be an Angel, together with Be an Angel and the Women's For Future organization, provide for those most in need in Ukraine during a time of war. We work with in-kind donations and humanitarian aid, then organize delivery to the most severely affected regions in Ukraine. Additionally, the team coordinates the evacuation of vulnerable people from Ukraine. So far, we have managed to provide 4,700+ tons of aid and have evacuated 18,000+ civilians.

The are nearly 6.6 millions of internally displaced persons in Ukraine and over 9 million people have crossed the Ukrainian border since Russia invaded the country. Almost 2.2 millions Ukrainian citizens had to leaved their home in eastern Ukraine. Unfortunately, they currently have no place to come home to because their houses have been destroyed. Ten percent of internally displaced persons have not gotten any assistance from the Ukrainian government. They have dire needs, especially in light of winter coming soon. At least three million families are in Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson regions, that are occupied by the Russian troops. They have no opportunity to buy simple everyday products such as meals, hygiene products, medical supply, and more. Even a simple cold or fever could lead to death! Also, Ukrainians are facing the coldest winter in the history of independence! The room temperatures are expected to be at 13-14°C inside homes at best during winter.

Since 1999, Computer CORE helps adults gain the computer and life skills they need to increase their career options. Online classes are offered in basic computer skills such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Docs. Students in need also receive a free refurbished computer. Students are 95% people of color, 70% women, and 95% immigrant, including many Afghan immigrants.

- meet in person once a month, and with $300 from GatherFor, to host any kind of in-person gathering they’d like
- build a culture of taking care of each other using the GatherFor workbook
- participate in a susu, in which they contribute $50-$100 each month into a common pot matched by GatherFor, with the whole pot then being given to one member of the team each month to use however they need (providing between $500-$1000 / month in financial support to each Neighbor)
- share local resources with each other through telegram groups
- join workshops open to the whole GatherFor community to learn about topics like finding housing in New York, navigating domestic violence, obtaining US citizenship, navigating conflict, telling a good story, or starting a business
- join other Neighbor Teams in the neighborhood for monthly Town Halls (with free food) to discuss best practices from each team and to inform strategy for GatherFor in the Neighborhood

DETAINED ADULT PROGRAM
CAIR Coalition's Detained Adult Program (DAP) works with hundreds of adults who are detained by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the Capital region. DAP provides information, legal support, and representation through trauma-sensitive, client-centered service and manages three sub-programs: the Legal Orientation Program (LOP), the Universal Representation Program (URep), and the National Qualified Representative Program (NQRP). 

DETAINED CHILDREN'S PROGRAM
CAIR Coalition's Detained Children's Program provides legal services to unaccompanied children detained by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) in Virginia and Maryland, as well as those who are released locally to a sponsor in Virginia, Maryland, and DC. Clients range in age from toddlers to teens, and include pregnant and parenting minors. The program's services include Know Your Rights presentations, individual consultations, accompanying children to immigration court hearings and free representation, either in-house or with local law firms. Since January 2021, the number of unaccompanied children seeking humanitarian protection has been on the rise. 

When children arrive at the southern border, they are first placed in the custody of Customs and Border Protection (CBP), which is responsible for transferring the children to ORR custody within 72 hours. CAIR Coalition is the primary provider of legal assistance to detained children in DC, Maryland and northern Virginia who are held in local ORR facilities. CAIR Coalition continues to see a steady and significant increase in the number of children who are being transferred to the facilities in our region, with a detained population of approximately 150 children on any given week. The Children's Program also pioneered new forms of advocacy for children in secure detention, successfully facilitating the 'step-down' of multiple children to less restrictive placements..

IMMIGRATION IMPACT LAB
The CAIR Coalition Immigration Impact Lab (Lab) brings impact litigation within the Fourth Circuit to challenge barriers to the asylum, due process, and liberty rights of our immigrant neighbors who are at risk of detention and deportation. The Lab also works closely with major law firms, law school clinics, and local immigration and criminal bars to coordinate litigation on cutting-edge issues.

Our impact litigation priorities focus on challenging barriers to asylum, minimizing the immigration consequences of criminal convictions, and protecting due process rights for detained children and adults. The primary litigation tools we use are appeals of individual cases to the Fourth Circuit and Board of Immigration Appeals, individual lawsuits, and habeas petitions to challenge prolonged and unlawful detention of adults and children. 

SOCIAL SERVICES
CAIR Coalition's Social Services Program endeavors to provide a holistic model of service that addresses our clients' legal, as well as social services needs. From addressing immediate needs-such as housing, food, and clothing, and referrals to medical, mental health, and educational support services-to creating detailed post release plans with wraparound support, our goal is to help ensure that they have the best possible chance of achieving their legal goals and succeeding in their new homes.

The program is also responsible for leading the coordination of independent psychological evaluations. These evaluations can often provide context around mental health diagnoses, which help to identify targeted post release referrals to mental health services providers. The coordination process requires collaboration among legal staff, detention facilities, and our social services team. Mental health evaluations can shed light on any relevant psychiatric history, enabling us to provide our clients with appropriate social and legal services. Our program liaises between the legal team and independent mental health professionals by recruiting and retaining a pool of practitioners who are trained to diagnose, provide clinical and forensic evaluations, provide referrals for further treatment, and serve as expert witnesses in immigration cases, as needed.

Teaching kids from 13 and up, especially those who live in marginalized communities, that they are valued for being just exactly who they are right here right now. What would happen if they got "Karma Kredits"  for doing good deeds for their families and friends, neighbors, and their community? They could do things like helping someone younger than them read or do math homework. They could read to their elders! Or maybe they could cut a lawn, rake leaves, or help pull weeds for a neighbor, how about paint a fence? Let's say they make beaded name collars for a pet shelter for animals that get adopted or are taught to crochet a hat for the local neonatal unit for premises?  Wouldn't that be AWESOME?

Let's take it a step further and let those kids meet weekly and come up with their OWN ideas to reach out to their community and we credit/value their time for doing so. Think of the possibilities. Our youth are our future.

- Works with and supports the visibility and development of Pride networks around the world, thereby contributing to the presence and influence of Pride efforts at regional and local levels.
- Gathers regional Pride platforms dedicated to producing Pride events for diverse global SOGIESC (Sexual Orientations, Gender Identities and Expressions, and Sex Characteristics) communities to learn and grow with each other.
- Manages, supports, and awards WorldPride™, global grant programs, and related initiatives.
In 1982, the National Association of Lesbian and Gay Pride Coordinators was formed in Boston, USA, with an initial membership of six USA Pride organizers. Over time membership has grown to include Pride organizers around the world, becoming InterPride in 1999. In 2021, membership totaled over 300 organizations from more than 60 countries. This growth has been matched by increasing diversity of membership. Since 2015, non-North American members have grown from 21% to 49%. This trend primarily reflects increased participation from Oceania and Global South (Africa, Asia, and South America).

The Pride movement continues to evolve. Pride has gained a presence in locations where it was previously absent or under-developed. There has also been significant growth in structures that gather Pride organizers together at a national or international level (known as Pride Platforms). This trend has created opportunities for InterPride to identify ways to better leverage regional knowledge to advance the rights of SOGIESC communities.

Center for Domestic Peace (C4DP) leads a comprehensive community effort to end the #1 violent crime in Marin County: domestic violence. We provide transformational services and programs that protect and enhance victim safety, hold abusers accountable, and ultimately engage our community in permanent change.
Annually, we:
    -Provide 24/7 hotline support in English and Spanish to more than 7,000 calls – including safety planning, emotional support, referrals, and information.  
     -Provide emergency shelter and transitional housing for over 240 survivors and their children, along with personal and economic empowerment activities, food, clothing, transportation, accompaniment, counseling, childcare, and help securing permanent housing. 
     -Assist over 440 survivors in navigating the legal and criminal justice systems for restraining orders, custody, divorce, and other issues.
     -Help more than 180 children and non-abusing parents with case management and trauma therapy to heal the bonds of the abuse and rebuild family unity.

C4DP holds the vision of a world in which domestic violence, abuse, and intimidation is replaced with domestic peace.  We believe that all women, youth, children, and men who are abused and at risk of abuse have a right to immediate and long-term safety.  We strive to create greater safety, justice, and equality for all by building awareness and action toward changing the social norms that promote or enforce violence against women.  We seek to make domestic violence a major community concern among all residents and social institutions (schools, hospitals, police departments, etc.).  We believe that change results from the action-oriented participation of large numbers of people, organizations, and institutions, inclusive of survivors.  We see intergenerational leadership as essential in our multigenerational task of ending domestic violence and violence against women and girls.

The CoolineKids mission is to empower and equip young leaders of color through innovative, skill-based programming.


Founded on April 1st, 2014 by 9-year-old Christian, Coolinekids set out to make an impact on East Palo Alto by providing children a safe space to have fun. Through many years of service, growth and innovation, CoolineKids launched a 2 week summer experience for 100 young people in East Palo Alto to teach leadership through play and art. As CoolineKids is our community’s only leadership development program serving all ages; today, we share our renewed commitment to the East Palo Alto community by launching our new organization. The CoolineKids Organization teaches K-8 students creativity, compassion, communication, and collaboration (our four foundational principles of service leadership) through our hands-on curriculum that includes cooking, photography, reading, science, art, play, and engineering. CoolineKids believes young people learn best from other young people, that’s why we engage high school students to support as leaders at our summer camps. High school youth grow their leadership skills through a variety of programs including our CrewCamp training experience, the Summer Leadership Academy and Camp Leadership Team. Our vision is that all youth will grow to become service-centric, family-minded leaders dedicated to inspiring change in their communities. And we are eager to live that out by empowering and equipping young leaders of color through innovative, skill-based programming.

Refugee Education Center supports refugees in their journey to become fully participating members of the West Michigan community.

OUR HISTORY

The Refugee Education Center is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Grand Rapids, MI that exists to support agency support refugees in their journey to become fully participating members of the West Michigan community.. The education-centered organization was founded in 2006 by a passionate group of Somali Bantu refugees who, as an ethnic group in their native country, were persecuted and prohibited to receive formal education. Upon arrival to the United States, community leaders recognized the incredible new opportunity to receive education and participate in the community as equals. They organized and created what is now the Refugee Education Center with the vision of supporting refugee children in West Michigan as they began their new education in a foreign land. Since 2006, our programs and services have expanded to address additional needs of families - serving over 4,500 refugees along the way. Through this, our vision has stayed the same. It has been, and is, central to the organization to share the knowledge learned from a first-person perspective of navigating the education system and refugee services and ultimately supporting the tens of thousands of refugees who call West Michigan home

OUR APPROACH

We are educators at the core, but we know that life is complex, and every story unique. That’s why we address the needs of not only the students we serve, but the whole family, focused around three core pillars of post-resettlement support:

EDUCATION - We were founded on a belief that education is a gift and an opportunity.  We acknowledge unique needs of refugee students and design our programs and services to coincide with traditional education in order that students may excel academically at an equitable rate as their American-born peers - and prepare for success in their new homeland. 

FAMILY STABILITY - Many complex barriers can interrupt the lives of refugee families. Whether it's a health and safety crisis, job loss, housing challenge or other life-challenge, our team is equipped to walk alongside refugees in these challenges, providing direct support or vital referrals to local social service agencies and programs.

CULTURE AND BELONGING - For many, the United States poses culturally challenging situations that differ from their birth-countries. We seek to prepare refugees to successfully engage with their new culture while also retaining their own cultural identity, values, and traditions.

OUR PROGRAM SERVICES

PROJECT FAULU - Our cornerstone K-12 support program for refugee students, Project Faulu, focuses on literacy and language acquisition, STEM/STEAM curriculum, and socio-emotional wellbeing. The afterschool program is designed specifically for children whose cultural adjustments and past trauma can make learning difficult. Through one-on-one tutoring and peer support groups, our goal is that each student is supported for academic success and social wellbeing.

B.R.I.D.G.E.S. - Building Refugee Independence and Delivering Guidance for Educational Success is designed for newly resettled refugee children who have yet to enter a US classroom. We provide a safe and welcoming environment for kids to prepare for their K-12 education and relieve anxiety prior to entering a classroom. The program exposes kids to new topics, themes, and culture they will encounter in their new school. Our goal is that each participating student is prepared to start school on the right foot! 

GRADUATE & GROW - Graduate & Grow offers broad, individualized support for high school aged students of refugee backgrounds. Through the program, students receive age-out support, graduation plans, mentorship and guidance in order to prepare them to graduate with a traditional High School Diploma, as well as for a successful transition into a career, trade school, and/or post-secondary education. 

REFUGEE NAVIGATORS - Who better to provide guidance and support than someone who has “been there, done that.” For newly arriving refugees, whether one has recently resettled in the United States or has moved from another part of the country, Navigators are a welcoming, familiar face in an unfamiliar place. Navigators, who come from a refugee background themselves, share their lived experiences and are trusted partners, providing guidance through the maze of government and private support systems in the foundational areas that best prepare a person (or family) for long-term integration and full participation. 

HANDS CONNECTED - Hands Connected is a one-of-a-kind program that provides children of refugee background, aged 0-5, with culturally responsive and multi-lingual pre-K — taught by refugee educators. Its primary purpose is to support children’s development in order that they may develop at the same rate as their American-born peers. Additionally, this program creates economic opportunities for refugee adults through direct employment and for those who are learning or working elsewhere and are in need of quality childcare. Hands Connected consists of the Center and the Home-based Educator Network. 

OUR IMPACT

We walk alongside refugees in the post-settlement phase of their journey —continuing services for however long it takes to provide the tools and remove the barriers to fully participate in the community.

+ 80% of enrolled K-12 students showed an increase in at least one letter-grade in one subject or more

+ 100% of enrolled K-12 students showed growth in cultural adjustment as determined by pre- and post- surveys

+ 97% of enrolled K-12 students showed an improved Reading Improvement Score

+ 82% of enrolled K-12 students showed improvement in WIDA Scores (English learners) 

+ 93% of 0-3 year old students passed Brigance Screening (child development & Kindergarten readiness)

For over 40 years, Little Tokyo Service Center (LTSC) has provided a safety net of social welfare and community development services to empower people and communities in need. LTSC provides culturally and linguistically appropriate services to the Japanese American community in the Southland, builds multi-family affordable housing projects to uplift low-income neighborhoods of color throughout Los Angeles, and promotes equitable development and cultural preservation in the Little Tokyo neighborhood.

CLEAR Global is a nonprofit helping people get vital information and be heard, whatever language they speak.

CLEAR Global is a US-based nonprofit comprising Translators without Borders, CLEAR Tech, and CLEAR Insights. We're helping people get vital information and be heard, whatever language they speak. With our innovative language technology solutions, research, and community of over 80,000 linguists, we support partner organizations working in various contexts around the world. We have local teams in Nigeria and Bangladesh, and are actively helping people affected by natural or man-caused crises get the information they need and understand.

As we envision a more linguistically just and diverse world, we started a movement. Our Four Billion Conversations movement is about helping bridge the digital language divide, and improving global information and communication access to include people who speak marginalized languages into matters that concern them as well. Part of this initiative is our language technology, including multilingual conversational chatbots and voice-enabled interactive information kiosks, thanks to which people can get answers to their questions instantly and securely.

We released a plethora of language data resources, such as the Global Language Data Review, a useful resource for planners to make their programs and services more inclusive, and language maps and glossaries that help humanitarians and other responders better communicate with local communities living through crises.
