We cover everything from global poverty to natural disasters, education and health, democracy; we have over 13,000 charts across hundreds of topics.


Our World in Data is free, open-source and provided as a public good. It has millions of users every month, and is cited in research and media across the world every day. This allows millions of people to understand the large problems the world is facing, and how we can solve them.

Founded in 2011, Human Rights Educators USA (HRE USA) is a growing network dedicated to building a culture of human rights by providing an innovative forum for HRE practitioners and supporters to learn, network, and exchange professional expertise and better serve the HRE community.

The Donors' Association The DSZ – International Giving Foundation was founded by the German Donors' Association for the Promotion of Humanities and Sciences in Germany. The Donors' Association was established as joint initiative of the German economy in 1920 and advocates sustainable improvement of education, science and research in Germany. It is simultaneously sponsor of the donation system and trustee of charitable foundations. The Deutsches Stiftungszentrum (German Foundation Centre)is the service centre of the Donors' Association for benefactors and foundations. More and more private persons and companies are taking on commitments in coalescent Europe and across the world. But well-intended help frequently fails to overcome bureaucratic hurdles. For example, German tax legislature denies donation deductions to organisations outside of Europe. Donations are theoretically deductible within the EU but in reality, this can generally only be achieved with excessive expenditures for donor and recipient. The DSZ – International Giving Foundation is recognized as a tax-privileged organisation. It pursues all purposes recognized in Germany as charitable and benevolent. The DSZ – International Giving Foundation supports the international project specified by the donor and takes care of the complete administrative process. The donor receives a donation receipt valid by German law. Hammerstone School empowers women and gender minorities through craft trades education. 

Since 2013 Hammerstone School has been fostering self-reliance through an introduction to building skills in a space absent of preconceptions about what we may or may not know or may or may not be capable of.

By creating learning environments specifically for women and gender minorities, we offer students a place to explore their capabilities free from judgment or outdated assumptions. **Young Women Emerge (YWE)** was born from a powerful partnership rooted in purpose.

In 2020, two passionate individuals—**Therese Nzale**, from RD Congo, and **Danielle Prince**, from the USA—met when working together in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). What began as professional collaboration quickly evolved into a deep bond grounded in shared values, vision, and a commitment to justice.

Through their work, Therese and Danielle discovered a profound synergy. They realized they were not only effective partners but also co-dreamers with a shared passion: empowering young women to overcome the systemic challenges of gender inequality, poverty, and violence.

In 2024, that passion became a reality. Together, they founded **Young Women Emerge**, a grassroots organization shaped by Therese’s lifelong dream and the urgent needs of girls in the DRC. YWE was created to be a space where girls can reclaim their futures, be mentored, gain skills, and emerge as leaders in their communities.

With over **55 years of combined experience** promoting human rights, education, and women’s empowerment, Therese and Danielle bring a legacy of advocacy to YWE. Their work spans continents and causes, but their focus remains constant: to support girls and young women in building lives of strength, purpose, and possibility.

YWE is the result of years of vision, trust, and collaboration. It represents what’s possible when women come together to build something bold—something that doesn't just serve, but transforms. Because when one young woman emerges, communities change—and the future begins to shift.

An institute dedicated to spreading and applying humanity's deepest and most consequential ideas.

Understanding how knowledge grows (the primary concern of *epistemology*) is one of the most fundamental questions that humanity has ever asked. Because the growth of knowledge plays a role in every human endeavor–from science to politics to creating artificial intelligence to raising children to entrepreneurship–getting the answer wrong necessarily leads to blind alleys and errors. Fortunately, Karl Popper, David Deutsch, and other thinkers have discovered and elaborated upon the right answer: that knowledge grows via conjecture and criticism.

Such a simple idea (the entire theory of which is called *critical rationalism*) has an enormous number of practical implications for all of the aforementioned fields and any other in which humans can make progress. While the revolutions brought forth by Newton, Darwin, and Einstein were profound and improved mankind's lot in the universe, even they were limited to particular strands of human endeavors. But epistemology is universal for any problem a person or society faces. Therefore, spreading critical rationalism and its implications will dissolve barriers to progress that most people do not even know stand in their way.

Improving health in the Peruvian Andes by training and empowering indigenous women as community health workers. 

Sacred Valley Health is a community-based, public health nonprofit that partners with vibrant, indigenous communities in the Andes of Peru. **Our core purpose is improving  health and well-being in underserved, marginalized communities through a community health worker program that empowers local women with education, resources, professional development, and economic opportunities.** 

Sacred Valley Health works with **marginalized partner communities to increase access to health knowledge and health care while \***providing vocational training to women and elevating them as leaders within their communities\*.\*\* It is often the case in indigenous communities, like SVH’s partner communities in Peru, that older women viewed as community elders are a respected voice when it comes to dictating community norms. ​​Our vision is that by empowering cohorts of women with health education and vocational training and by providing culturally relevant health information and care to the vibrant, indigenous partner communities we partner with, we can help people living in these communities to experience greater health and well-being.  

Since its inception in 2012, Sacred Valley Health has trained more than 100 women as health workers, launched a very successful train-the-trainer program, and developed a customized, comprehensive health education curriculum for visual Quechua-speaking learners. Most importantly, Sacred Valley Health has become a trusted, reputable partner in the local health landscape - among community members, health officials, funders, and other nonprofits - by using a collaborative, participatory approach in their work.

We serve youth in Florence, Hartsville, Hemingway, Johnsonville, Lake City, Pamplico, & Timmonsville with out-of-school programs. 

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Pee Dee Area have been serving youth ages 6-18 for more than 60 years. Today, we operate seven club sites in Florence, Hartsville, Hemingway, Johnsonville, Lake City, Pamplico, and Timmonsville with more than 700 kids passing through our doors each day.

Our mission is to inspire and enable all youth, from throughout the Pee Dee area, especially those that need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. Clubs fill the gap between school and home with a welcoming, positive environment in which kids and teens have fun, participate in life-changing programs, and build supportive relationships with peers and caring adults. Using a nationally recognized, evidence-based programming, our priority outcomes include

- **Academic Success:** Graduating from high school ready for college, trade school, military, or employment
- **Good Character & Leadership:** Being an engaged citizen involved in the community, registered to vote, and modeling good character
- **Healthy Lifestyles:** Adopting a healthy diet, practicing healthy lifestyle choices, and making a lifelong commitment to fitness.

In every community, boys and girls are left to find their own recreation and companionship in the streets. An increasing number of children are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know that someone cares about them.

Boys & Girls Clubs offer that and more. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence.

Boys & Girls Clubs are a safe place to learn and grow – all while having fun. We truly are **“The Positive Place For Kids.”**

The purpose of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Pee Dee Area is to promote the social, educational, health, leadership, and character development of boys and girls during critical periods of their growth. This includes tutoring and academic assistance and instilling the importance of learning.

Boys & Girls Clubs provides a safe place to learn and grow; ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals; life-enhancing programs and character development experiences; and h**ope and opportunity.**

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Pee Dee Area

CAAS is an agricultural center supporting education, food security, and sustainable development in southern Mali.

CAAS is an agricultural training and production center located in southern Mali. It provides women with hands-on training in sustainable agriculture and promotes the development of rural communities in the Mandé region. In addition to a six-month basic course for 60 to 80 trainees the center offers continuing education for women’s cooperatives.

Out of the original training center, a dynamic economic model has developed that includes: processing plants for peanut oil, produce, meat, and dairy products; solar power and clean drinking water for the neighboring village; and twelve women-run community gardens that contribute to food security, economic revitalization, and strengthen community resilience.

**Scholarship Program**

Education serves as the great engine of personal development, and we believe every local student should be equipped to give back to their community. In 2025, we awarded $55,000 in scholarships to 22 local students pursuing higher education at colleges of their choosing, plus 12 additional scholarships to students at Colorado Mountain College's Breckenridge and Dillon campuses.

Working in partnership with The Summit Foundation and Colorado Mountain College Charitable Fund, we support students who demonstrate service and leadership qualities. Our scholarships particularly focus on first-generation college students, those pursuing technical fields, and students involved in Rotary activities. We're proud to offer the Meg Boyer Memorial Scholarship in partnership with The Summit Daily News, honoring a former publisher and Rotarian while supporting female students pursuing journalism or business degrees.

**Youth Exchange Program**

Our comprehensive Youth Exchange program creates global citizens and lasting international friendships. Each year, we sponsor one or two international high school students who attend school in Summit County while living with three carefully selected host families throughout the academic year. We've welcomed remarkable young ambassadors from Spain, Brazil, Austria, Japan, Turkey, Switzerland, Romania, and many other countries.

Summit County students also have transformative opportunities to spend a year abroad through our outbound exchange program, with past participants experiencing life-changing adventures in the Czech Republic, Denmark, Argentina, New Zealand, Taiwan, and other fascinating destinations worldwide.

**Youth Leadership Development**

Through our Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program, we sponsor high school sophomores and juniors for intensive leadership training at the beautiful YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park. Our Young RYLA program serves 288 seventh-grade participants across two summer sessions, helping young people develop essential skills in an atmosphere of trust and respect while addressing real community issues.

**Literacy & Learning Initiatives**

**Comprehensive Literacy Programs**

Our commitment to literacy spans all ages and learning stages throughout Summit County. Through our "Reading Buddy" program, volunteers are paired with students at all six elementary schools to support developing reading skills with encouragement and personalized attention.

The Rotary Summer Reads program provides third-grade students with personally selected books reflecting Rotary values for summer reading. Since 2012, we've provided literacy grants to Summit School District classrooms, libraries, and home providers, plus funding for The Peak School and Summit County Preschools to build learning centers, purchase books, and create bilingual libraries.

Our Family Literacy Fairs, held twice yearly in partnership with Early Childhood Options, Family Intercultural Resource Center, Colorado Mountain College, and Head Start, provide free books to young children and families. We also donate children's books to schools and libraries throughout the county in honor of our weekly speakers—over 540 books donated since 2008.

**Creative Expression & Global Literacy**

Each spring, we sponsor short story and poetry contests for high school students in partnership with The Summit Daily News, awarding $5,800 in prizes to winners who share their creative works at our meetings. Our innovative Intergenerational Story Telling Project pairs adults at Timberline Adult Care Center with students from The Peak School, creating meaningful connections across generations.

Internationally, we support the Belize Education Fund and Guatemala Literacy Project, providing textbooks, reading materials, and computers to impoverished schools through partnerships with North American and Guatemalan Rotary clubs.

**Adopt-An-Angel Program**

Every child deserves to stay warm during Colorado's harsh winters. Through our Adopt-An-Angel program, we provide essential winter coats to children in Summit County who would otherwise go without. This heartwarming initiative serves approximately 400 families with 700 children each year during our Holiday campaign. While Summit Rotary purchases the coats, our community partners with us through the Angel Ornament program at participating local retailers, where generous individuals donate toys. Families gather at the Silverthorne Pavilion to collect these gifts and wrap them for Christmas, creating magical holiday moments for children throughout our mountain community.

**Local Grants Program**

We support dozens of local organizations through our quarterly grants process, funding projects that demonstrate clear community benefit, long-term impact, and service to Summit County residents. Recent grantees include Summit Community Care Clinic, Keystone Science School, Summit County Senior Center, Tree Top Child Advocacy, Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center, and many other vital community organizations working to strengthen our mountain communities.

**Community Dinner**

Since 2009, we've proudly nourished our community, serving over 200,000 FREE community dinners to residents and visitors alike. Every Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Elks Lodge in Silverthorne, we open our doors to all community members—no questions asked, no requirements needed. This vital service ensures that no one in our community goes hungry while fostering connections and strengthening the bonds that make Summit County special. **Polio Eradication**

We are proud partners in one of the most successful public health campaigns in history. For more than 35 years, Rotary has led the charge to eliminate polio worldwide, and we are closer than ever to achieving this monumental goal. As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, Rotary International has helped reduce polio cases by an astounding 99.9 percent since the first vaccination project in the Philippines in 1979.

Rotary members globally have contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect nearly 3 billion children across 122 countries from this paralyzing disease. Our advocacy efforts have influenced governments to contribute over $10 billion to this critical mission. Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan, but continued vigilance is essential. Without ongoing eradication efforts, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children annually within just a decade.

**ShelterBox Emergency Relief**

When natural disasters strike, families often find themselves without adequate shelter for weeks or months. Through our partnership with ShelterBox, your donation helps us deploy emergency shelter solutions to disaster-affected areas worldwide. Each ShelterBox contains essential survival tools, blankets, cooking equipment, dishes, water purification systems, and other critical supplies designed to keep a family of 10 protected from the elements while they work to rebuild their lives and communities.

Gator Wilderness Camp School is located in Charlotte County in southwest Florida. LGBTQIA+ people need spaces of our own where we can take refuge, build resilient communities, and organize for our collective liberation. RAQC provides a safe and loving home for the queer community in Charlottesville and the surrounding counties. Programming at RAQC addresses multiple areas of need: support groups, peer counseling, and on-site mental health professionals contribute to the emotional wellbeing of our community. Classes and workshops on topics as diverse as screen printing, foraging, and self defense address our physical and creative needs. Social events like mixers, parties, and performances ensure that our region’s vibrant queer culture continues to flourish. In addition to our own programming, RAQC also serves as a safe and accessible space where all local queer organizations and individuals can host their own events.

Open Doors English is an English as a Second Language Program for adults in Ithaca, NY. All students are welcome!

Open Doors English's mission is to “offer English classes so that adults can participate fully in community life, advocate and care for themselves and their families, and pursue their goals.” Our student body is comprised of immigrants, refugees, asylum-seekers, farm workers, and temporary residents. All students are welcome, and ODE has served 200-300 students per year since opening in 2019. 

At Open Doors English, students:
- Develop or improve their ability to speak, read, write, and listen in English
- Build the confidence needed to communicate effectively in everyday life situations.
- Learn communication and language skills to perform in current and future jobs
- Acquire advanced language skills and training to pursue educational opportunities
- Increase their understanding of American culture and society
- Receive assistance and make connections to other community resources and agencies
- Connect with people, organizations, and events in the Ithaca area
- Have fun while learning
- Find belonging in a community of international friends
