QuestBridge has successfully shaped the lives of the most promising, low-income students in the nation and has helped them unlock billions in scholarships.

Every year, there are over 30,000 outstanding high school students from low-income backgrounds who are academically qualified to attend the nation’s top colleges. Over 80% of them do not apply to even ONE selective college and they remain highly under-represented on leading college campuses.

Many of these promising students assume they can’t afford an education at a top college. Others lack the education about what it takes to apply to a selective college, or simply assume they can’t be admitted.

When low-income students miss the opportunity to apply to and attend great colleges, this has a profound effect on their futures. Many end up reaching below their actual academic potential, or they don't attend college at all. Of those who attend college, most don't graduate.

This vast amount of untapped talent equates to a staggering loss in human potential. As America strives to remain competitive in our global society, promising students from across the economic spectrum are vital to the wealth and future of our nation-at-large.

Using innovative data methods to target and reach thousands of high-achieving, low-income students, we provide programs that help students reach their fullest potential, which could include attending a top-tier college on a full scholarship. We also provide these students with ongoing resources and a supportive community of Scholars to help them thrive in college and beyond.

The Guatemalan-Maya Center Inc is a nonprofit organization focused on human and civil rights and advocacy.

Our story begins with **Father Frank O'Loughlin**, our Executive Director, whose unwavering dedication to migrant workers spans over 50 years of advocacy and service.

​Father Frank’s journey with the Mayan people began in the early 1980s, when he served as a parish priest in Indiantown, Florida. During this time, he encountered Mayan migrant workers who were not just laborers, but refugees escaping the horrors of the Guatemalan genocide, seeking sanctuary and a new life.

​Before this, in the 1970s, Father Frank was deeply involved in the farmworker movement alongside Cesar Chavez. Inspired by Chavez’s tireless fight for justice, Father Frank worked in solidarity with the United Farm Workers, advocating for fair wages and better conditions for migrant workers. This experience strengthened his lifelong commitment to standing with marginalized communities and fighting for their rights.

In 1992, this powerful connection led to the founding of the Guatemalan-Maya Center. Our mission was clear from the start: to assist, advocate for, and provide services to Maya refugees and others in need, focusing on areas such as education, health, immigration, cultural continuity, and family preservation. We honor and support the Maya culture as we embrace the new environments in which we all live, empowering families to thrive in their new homes.

The Guatemalan-Maya Center, Inc

Msomi Academy partners with Kenyans to educate children so they can improve their lives and the lives of their communities. 

Our mission is to partner with communities to build educational experiences that improve quality of life, empower leaders, foster collaborative relationships, and encourage reciprocal learning. Benya Msomi Academy in Kisii, Kenya, provides a safe haven for primary school children (ages 4-14) who are orphaned and/or have dangerous situations at home through boarding facilities that are not generally offered at the primary school level. The approximately 400 students who attend Benya Msomi Academy get a lunch meal every day (not offered at every school) and the young ones are now receiving breakfast as well. Msomi is also working with a Maasai community in the Kajiado area to dig a well so that the women and girls no longer have to walk 20 miles round trip every day to fetch water. This will save them significant time and allow them to engage in on-site education so they can work to improve their community's quality of life.

The JS Acceleration Fund raises donations for the John Schrooten Foundation. The non-profit goal of the Foundation is to increase the capability to act independently. The Foundation facilitates and promotes good practices around healthy nutrition, sustainable agriculture and related economic activities and entrepreneurship. The goal is more socially cohesive and economically resilient communities. The supported enterprises or projects adhere to a triple P bottom line (people, planet, profit). The Foundation makes sure an enduring impact is made even when support is gradually diminished and eventually stopped. 

Our flagship project centers around the reintroduction of the versatile Moringa tree in the Karatu district in rural Northern Tanzania. There we work with schools, women and farmers to improve their lives by providing training and hands-on assistance. This results in better nutrition and farming practices as well as generate income through products derived from Moringa (powder, oil, soap, ...).

Mariposa Kids supports & inspires children's natural curiosity & independence through free play during their out-of-school time. 

Over the last 50 years, the average amount of time children have for free play has continued to decline, as has opportunities for outdoor play time. Mariposa Kids works to reverse this trend through free play based out-of-school time programming for children in San Francisco. Mariposa Kids centers its work around three tenets: Safe Space – Free Play – Community. We believe these three factors working together can improve childhood outcomes while also allowing parents to maintain workforce participation by providing safe places for their children in the hours after school. 

The Kids’ Co-Op, Inc. DBA Mariposa Kids’ mission is to support and inspire children's natural curiosity and independence through free play during their out-of-school time, envisioning vibrant communities that support the social emotional growth of all children through friendship and play. Our out-of-school programming includes our After-School Program, Summer Camps, and Holiday Camps serving children ages 5-11 (grades TK-5). Our After-School Program is the largest of these programs both budgetarily and in our annual calendar, as it runs on each school day of the San Francisco Unified School District academic calendar. Our camps serve 50 children weekly/daily, with our summer camps running for eight weeks over summer and our holiday camps run on ten annual school holidays.

Guided by our values of Fun, Community, Belonging, Well-Being, and Learning, we strive to ensure success for the children we serve, our dedicated volunteers, and staff. Operating for over a decade, our After-School Program in San Francisco serves 65 children annually, transporting them on foot from local SFUSD public schools, to our off-site clubhouses located in the James Rolph Jr. Park & Playground and a commercial storefront in Bernal Heights. Children come from families with broad socio-economic backgrounds as self-reported:

- 20% of children come from families who earn Low to Acutely Low Income as outlined by the *CA Department of Housing and Community Development - Division of Housing Policy Development for San Francisco County*
- 4% Black/African American, 7% AAPI, 53% Caucasian/White, 25% Multi-Racial, 11% Hispanic/Latinx
- 19% of families reported someone being LGTBQ+ in the home with 11% reporting "Don't Know"

Embedded within our After-School Program are a collection of sub-programs that work together to enhance the positive impact each child experiences daily by participating in our program. These programs include:

- ***Health & Nutrition Program:*** To nurture the well-being of children, we strive to provide nutritious snack options and lessons about food, meal preparation, and nutrition.
- ***Junior Rec Leader Program:*** Five 4th/5th graders are appointed as Junior Rec Leaders to assist in program implementation, activity facilitation, and peer-to-peer guidance to other children. Building on its success, the program expanded in 2024 to include the Junior Rec Leader Mentor Program. This extension engages students ages 12-17 that are Mariposa Kids alumni or in local high school service learning/internship programs.
- ***Financial Assistance Program:*** On average, we provide approximately 22-25% of our annual budget to families as financial assistance across programs for families to participate in our programs. This equates to an average of 12 children receiving fully subsidized access to our After-School Program each year.
- ***Leaders of the Future:*** To help support the pipeline of professionals entering the fields of education, child development, and nonprofits, we prioritize the hiring of individuals pursuing a degree or recently graduated with a degree in these related fields of study, and provide financial support for educational pursuits to employees beginning after a year of successful service with us.

Access to after-school programming and summer camps continues to be a challenge for families, and funding to our program helps Mariposa Kids:

- Provide affordable and/or fully subsidized programming to families in San Francisco,
- Maintain safe and quality staff to student ratios through the employment of trained and dedicated Recreation Leaders;
- Provide program supplies in our safe and clean clubhouses that allow for plentiful options for children to choose from for play, exploration, and learning.

Our organization is well positioned to take on issues around access to unstructured play and outdoor time through our community partnerships and play based programming. Through our programs, we believe children will experience improved quality of life as adults through fulfilling and meaningful relationships and improved academics. The combination of unstructured play and increased outdoor time will also lead to healthy decision making and lifestyle choices as adults, resulting in improved physical and mental well-being throughout life.

A loving children's home since 1985 giving care, nutrition, medical, education, and rehabilitation to abandoned children in Mumbai

**Bal Asha Trust provides comprehensive care to abandoned and destitute children for 38 years.** Our child protection services ensure immediate shelter in their children's homes.  **We have supported over 6,000 children through our programs.**

**We provide physical care, health services, education and well-balanced meals,** including formula milk for infants and four healthy meals a day for older children.  Our children go to different schools as per their ability. **We have two visiting pediatricians who treat children with a range of conditions,** from undernourishment,  Hep. B, Albinism and HIV to cerebral palsy and developmental delays.

**We also assist with legal procedures to reunite children with their biological parents across India or find caring Adoptive parents.** The goal is to ensure that every child in our care has the opportunity to grow up in a loving and supportive environment.

Providing a Safe Haven, Free Shelter to Abandon Visually Impaired Girls in Delhi, India

Empowering visually impaired girls was one of the prime objectives behind establishing the Blind Welfare Society as there is a dearth of organizations working for the betterment of visually impaired girls in India. We affirm that visually impaired young girls and women are more vulnerable and thus need extra support. It is our endeavor to create an environment where the lack of money or opportunities does not make blind girl’s situation worse.

Blind welfare society strongly resents any action which could show the visually impaired people as disabled. Blindness is just the physical loss of eyesight, nothing more. Blind people are like everyone else, and can be expected to perform on a par. BWS has a crucial role to play in creating a world where there are no barriers to people with sight loss. We strive to increase the independence, access to education, equal opportunity, social security and quality of life for people with vision loss.

Empowering Youth in Cambodia helps disadvantaged urban youth access education, personal growth, and leadership opportunities.

Cambodia's youth demographic is one of the youngest in Southeast Asia, with over 60% of the population under 30. This rapid youth growth presents both a significant opportunity and a considerable challenge for the country’s future development.

**Empowering Youth in Cambodia (EYC)**, founded in 2006, focuses specifically on one of the most vulnerable segments of this youth population—those living in disadvantaged urban communities in Phnom Penh. Most parents of EYC students work in informal sectors as factory workers, waste pickers, tuk-tuk drivers, or street vendors, earning only a modest daily income—typically between $5 and $8. These jobs are unstable and lack job security, often leaving families living on less than $200 per month. Many of these young people are first-generation learners, balancing studies and work often without family support. Additionally, they face limited access to quality education and stable employment opportunities.

**EYC’s mission is to empower these youth through education, personal development, and leadership opportunities—helping them break the cycle of poverty and become active, contributing citizens.** 

Starting small with English and computer classes in Phnom Penh, EYC quickly grew into a respected NGO, reaching over 800 youth annually. Alumni became the organization’s backbone—returning as staff members, volunteers, and role models, creating a powerful youth-to-youth cycle of empowerment. 

Over the years, EYC expanded to multiple community centers, added programs like scholarships, leadership training, life skills, sports, arts, and STEM education. The scholarship program, in particular, has helped many students become the first in their families to graduate from high school and attend university. 

Today, EYC operates three vibrant community centers in Phnom Penh, offering a range of programs:

- **English, digital literacy, and STEM courses,** including coding and robotics
- **Scholarship support** for high school and university students
- **Leadership development** to build communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills
- **Life skills and extracurricular activities** in sports, arts, and mental health initiatives
- **Career guidance** and employability support
- **Volunteer and community engagement opportunities** with local and international partners

EYC’s holistic approach promotes not only academic skills but also confidence, resilience, and leadership. Its partnerships with other NGOs, the private sector, and educational institutions have expanded impact and trust within communities.

Looking ahead, EYC aims to strengthen its curricula, increase digital adoption, expand career pathways, deepen partnerships, and diversify funding to ensure long-term resilience. Its ultimate vision is to be a model for youth empowerment in Cambodia—demonstrating how community-driven initiatives can transform lives, break cycles of poverty, and foster a new generation of leaders.

Open Doors English's mission is to “offer English classes so that adults can participate fully in community life, advocate and care for themselves and their families, and pursue their goals.” Our student body is comprised of immigrants, refugees, asylum-seekers, farm workers, and temporary residents. All students are welcome, and ODE has served 200-300 students per year since opening in 2019. 

At Open Doors English, students:
- Develop or improve their ability to speak, read, write, and listen in English

Sage Future

Rebuilding roofs in underserved communities throughout Puerto Rico while providing carpentry training to local residents.

Our mission is twofold: We rebuild damaged roofs in under-served communities throughout Puerto Rico, while providing residents with basic carpentry training. This approach helps improve living conditions by improving housing and addressing the shortage of skilled construction workers on the island.

At PRoTechos, our approach to rebuilding involves working closely with the communities we serve. We network with local community leaders, other non-profits, and municipalities to locate the most urgent cases, and we focus on helping residents who do not have the financial resources to hire help for roof repairs. We prioritize homes with children, elderly, and sick or disabled occupants.

Once we have identified a candidate for roof replacement, we assess the roof. Our work is limited to roof repairs or reconstruction of metal roofs. If the homeowner and the roof qualify, our project manager performs a detailed assessment, taking measurements and creating a scope of work. Once release forms are signed, our project manager orders the lumber and other roofing materials, and works with the foreman to schedule the project.

Depending on the size of the roof and extent of the damage, it can take a team of two to four people between two and 10 days to complete. Rain often interrupts our schedule; for safety reasons, we do not allow anyone on a roof when it is wet. In all, each roof costs an average of $10,000 to complete, including materials and labor.

Carpentry and construction work are done by skilled carpenters and trainees who participate in our carpentry apprenticeship program.

Providing NYC Public Schools with Training and Resources to Start and Sustain Student Journalism Programs and Publications

Press Pass NYC equips under-resourced NYC public schools with free faculty training, student resources and program support to launch or revive a student news publication – and keep it running. Our goal is to level the playing field in a city where a 2022 Baruch College study found 93 of the 100 highest poverty high schools had no student newspaper. Working on a news team gives teens the opportunity to develop their curiosity and passion by writing about topics that interest them, developing critical thinking, teamwork and leadership along with media literacy.

Since 2021, we’ve helped 30 NYC public schools start or revive a student news publication, online or in print, with 14 more coming in the 2025-26 school year. Every donation goes toward supporting these budding news teams through fellowships for teachers and students.

For example:

- $250 funds a stipend for a Student Journalism Leader
- $500 funds an hands-on journalism workshop for students
- $1000 funds a Journalism Adviser Fellow's first year stipend 
- $2000 funds one year of journalism supplies and resources for a student news team                                              
- $25,000 fully funds three-years of program support for a school news team to ensure sustainability.

The Fondation Pro-mahJ contributes to the development of the collections of the Musée d'art et d'histoire du Judaisme in Paris.

The Fondation pour le musée d'art et d'histoire du Judaïsme (Pro mahJ), in Paris, was created in 2003 on the initiative of Claire Maratier, daughter of painter Michel Kikoïne (1892-1968), to promote the work of artists from the École de Paris and mobilize its resources in support of the mahJ. As an essential supporter of the enrichment of the mahJ's collections and the promotion of its heritage and activities, the foundation is committed to supporting contemporary artists whose work is rooted in the École de Paris and resonates with the mahJ's collections.
Your support will help preserve one of the finest collections of works of art and objects illustrating the heritage of Jewish culture in Europe and around the Mediterranean, from Antiquity to the present day, preserved and hosted by the musée d'art et d'histoire du Judaïsme (mahJ), as well as strengthening the museum's activities, particularly its educational initiatives. We establish environments and build relationships where community volunteers can provide food and clothing, as well as referrals for shelter, addiction recovery, and other personal support.

Street Life Ministries (or SLM) began in 2001 at the downtown Menlo Park train station. Today, due to the help of many people, it now serves over 35,000 meals a year, five nights a week, in Menlo Park, Palo Alto and Redwood City. For 20 years SLM gatherings have built a reputation as the one consistent place the homeless can count on. Whether it is a holiday, a cloudy or rainy day, SLM never varies from the set schedule, giving the homeless a stable option throughout the year.

SLM is an established 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a board of directors, and is very different from many “feeding ministries.” It serves a unique role in the way it cares for the homeless and the hungry in San Mateo/Santa Clara Counties. Hot, home cooked meals served in outdoor venues are less threatening for our homeless neighbors, fostering a safe environment for relational connections to develop with the SLM leaders and volunteers. These connections build trust for guiding homeless friends toward healthier decisions, medical assistance, detox, rehab, housing, mentorship and counseling. In addition to food and encouragement, SLM provides clothing, toiletry kits, sleeping bags, medical supplies, temporary shelter, recovery services and job assistance to those in need. 

SLM is also unique because it places its staff and its services “in the streets”, and “in the camps”, where the homeless live. It reaches more homeless people directly in those street locations than traditional professional service agencies. Additionally, no other homeless non-profit in the area provides local residents with the large number (over 6000 hours per year, estimated) of volunteer hours of opportunity to meet directly and be served on a face to face basis as we do. Homeless folks need love, care, trustworthy friends, and reliable, regular support to improve and/or recover. SLM is “in the trenches and on the street” every day, helping our homeless neighbors. SLM’s outreach can be accessed at all hours of the day and night.

The Fungi Foundation is a global organization that works for the Fungi, their habitats, and the people who depend on them.

Launched in 2012, the Fungi Foundation is the first NGO dedicated to the fungi kingdom. Since its inception, it has achieved numerous milestones while dedicating itself to exploring the fungi world in view of increasing knowledge of their diversity, educating about their applications, and recommending public policy for their conservation. As part of our ongoing 3F initiative, the foundation played a key role in enabling Chile to become the first country in the world to include protection of fungi in its environmental legislation. More recently, the foundation proudly announced the Fantastic Fungi Education Curriculum, the world's first mycological set of courses designed for schools.
