Rescuing, researching and rewilding Amazonian wildlife while empowering communities through education and sustainable solutions. 

**Hoja Nueva** is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN: 47-4323459) working at the forefront of wildlife conservation, research, and community development in the Peruvian Amazon. Our mission is to protect, rehabilitate, and rewild endangered species while fostering sustainable living and education in local communities. We believe that true conservation must go hand-in-hand with community empowerment, scientific research, and education to ensure long-term protection of the Amazon’s ecosystems.

At the heart of our work is the rescue and rewilding of iconic and threatened species—including jaguars, margays, pumas, jaguarundis, and tapirs—many of which suffer due to habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, or illegal wildlife trade. Our state-of-the-art rescue and rehabilitation center provides expert medical care and pre-release conditioning to give these animals a second chance in the wild. With a 97% release success rate, our innovative rewilding techniques and long-term monitoring are helping restore the balance of nature in the Amazon rainforest.

Our **Sumamos Project** enhances animal welfare nationwide by promoting ethical practices in zoos and rescue centers. Through capacity-building, on-site training, and technical support, Sumamos elevates care standards and opens new possibilities for the recovery and eventual reintroduction of wild animals.

Research is a key pillar of our work. Hoja Nueva manages one of the largest camera trap networks in the Amazon, producing extensive data on mammal populations, activity patterns, and the impacts of human activity. Our findings have been published in peer-reviewed journals such as *Biotropica*, advancing global knowledge of tropical biodiversity. Beyond mammals, our **WildGenes Project** explores microbial diversity through non-invasive soil and fecal sampling. In collaboration with international partners like Cambridge University, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of the Amazon’s unseen ecological networks.

Hoja Nueva is also a leader in **community-based conservation**. Our **One Health** approach connects wildlife protection with human and environmental health. We work with rural villages like Puerto Lucerna to implement sustainable agriculture, waste management systems, and access to clean water—improving both community well-being and ecological health. Our dog and cat rescue program, which includes spay/neuter campaigns and veterinary services, helps reduce disease transmission and human-wildlife conflict, while improving the lives of animals and people alike.

Education is central to everything we do. We lead monthly workshops and conservation events for local students, teaching wildlife protection, environmental stewardship, and sustainability. Our international internship and research programs bring students and scientists from around the world to the Amazon for hands-on experience in wildlife care and conservation. Our six-month **Wildlife Rehabilitation Course** offers in-depth training in animal handling, clinical care, and reintroduction strategies for those pursuing careers in wildlife conservation.

Through our integrated programs in rescue, research, and community engagement, Hoja Nueva is creating a future where people and wildlife coexist in harmony, and the Peruvian Amazon thrives for generations to come.

Cambodian non-profit arts school supporting youth through artistic & educational programs

Phare Ponleu Selpak is a Cambodian non-profit arts school located in Battambang, offering support to children, youth and the surrounding communities through artistic, educational and social support programmes.

Phare Phare Ponleu Selpak was founded more than a quarter of a century ago, by nine Cambodians, who grew up in a refugee camp after surviving the genocide of the Khmer Rouge, and their French arts teacher. Resilience and hope has been in Phare’s DNA from the very beginning, and from a simple arts school it blossomed into the multi-faceted creative hub it is today.

Phare educates and trains thousands of children and youth who come from challenging backgrounds. Most receive a mainstream education which helps them thrive as adults, but others become artists, performers and musicians who keep Cambodia’s creative culture alive after its almost total destruction by the Khmer Rouge. We offer them social support, education and arts programs so they can build their future and support their families through creative careers.

We invest in the land around Harmony Montessori to keep the legacy of outdoor education alive for preschoolers & their families.

Harmony Land Caretakers invests money and time in following three areas. 

1. Safe access for all ages that ensures preschooler exploration and educational experiences 
2. Preschool-friendly exhibits
3. Outdoor education programs tailored for preschoolers or their educators 

Our initial focus is to improve safe access to the land at the Richardson Bay Audubon Center & Sanctuary for the preschool community which includes a range of ages — from the littlest ones to our community’s elders. 

As safe access improves, we will add educational exhibits that preschoolers and their family can use to learn about the nature around them. We also envision hosting outdoor education programs, to build on the deep legacy of naturalists who have taught on this land.

The Mallory Gaston Foundation is dedicated to empowering at-risk youth from Marin, San Francisco, and Alameda Counties through career exploration and internships in the health and fitness sector. Our mission is to create viable work opportunities and foster the development of responsible and engaged citizens through this transformative program. By providing education and purpose, we aim to bridge the gap between marginalized communities and the broader masses, instilling understanding, empathy, and empowerment.

Code Girls United is a nonprofit organization focused on rural and tribal computer science, AI, cyber, and business education.


Code Girls United is empowering the next generator of innovators with:  Free, after school programs that bring the language of code and problem solving power to girls in rural and tribal communities, Career readiness, and Tools for self-sufficiency.

Through our year long program, young girls gain experience in computer science and coding fundamentals, marketing best practices, business development & entrepreneurship, and writing and public speaking skills which supports the development and proficiency in math, reading, and executive function learning. In addition to learning coding and practical business skills, the young girls who enter our program walk away with a new sense of self-confidence in their abilities and an empowerment to take control of their future.

Our statewide programs are a combination of in-person and hybrid learning where students meet once a week after-school and at least once outside of our class. In the first half of the school year, new participants are taught the fundamentals of computer science and coding using MIT’s Appinventor, while returning participants are taught more in-depth lessons in computer science and learn advanced programming concepts. In the second half of the year, the girls are split into teams and tasked with identifying a community need, creating a business framework for their community service project, and developing an app as a solution to the community problem.

We also have an Advanced program using the same model, but with Python and Javascript learning.  A Junior Leaders and Leaders program to facilitate the growth of our students, and Summer Camps for younger (Coding Groovy Unicorns), and older students with our CyberCat Camps.  And in development our AI Academy.

REACH raises funds for a graduating high school senior’s graduation fee (cap, gown, tassel, and sometimes a senior fee) and for The Ryan Underwood Serfas Scholarship (TRUSS) which is a tailored scholarship designed to provide financial assistance to high school graduating seniors to ensure recipients can fully participate in and cherish the milestones of their senior year. Burundi is at the heart of several socio-economic challenges that put 3 million Burundians in need of humanitarian aid in 2017 [1]  alone. This includes women and girls who do not have access to hygienic menstrual management products. It is estimated that 80% of Burundian women cannot afford pads and underwear to use every month when they are on their periods. The cheapest (disposable) pads available on the market cost 2500 BIF (approximately 1.5 US$): this is a lot of money to spend every month for many families, in a country whose GDP per capita is approximately 236.8 US$. As a result, women, and girls' resort to unhygienic and undignified methods to manage their periods, such as used pieces of cloth, pieces of old mattresses or old socks filled with sand.This situation takes a dramatic turn in the school environment, which already suffers from lack of water and the dilapidated conditions of toilets (if they are available) in many schools. In addition to having no adequate environment where female students can live their menstrual period in complete privacy, hygiene conditions increase the risk of infections. This has a serious impact on their attendance of classes and their grades. Many prefer to stay at home instead of going to school and miss an average of four days of class each month. A study conducted by the UNICEF in Burundi in 2016 revealed that only 17.1% of female students could afford the disposable pads available on the market. Furthermore, 70.2% of female students missed school during their periods. 88.3% of school principals and teachers interviewed as part of the study confirmed these numbers. Without resources like textbooks to catch up on lessons, the students find themselves further and further behind in lessons, fail tests, get discouraged and far too often, drop out of school. The consequences of dropping out are devastating early marriages and pregnancies, as well as limited career opportunities. This continues the cycle of poverty for the girls and their families. Founded in 2011 by  Mrs. Grace Françoise NIBIZI , SaCoDé is a Burundian non-profit organization certified equivalent to an American public charity that works tirelessly to promote healthy communities for sustainable development. The Organization implements various projects, namely: promotion and education on sexual and reproductive health, promotion and education on menstrual health and hygiene, promotion of female entrepreneurship, produce and distribution of washable and reusable sanitary pads AGATEKA, promotion of a balanced diet.  As a solution to the problem mentioned above, SaCoDé makes menstrual pads that are reusable, washable and wearable with or without underwear. The pads are branded  AGATEKA , which means "dignity" in Kirundi, because we want all girls and women in the world to manage their menstruation normally with dignity. In honor of Christmas day, help SaCoDé team create DIGNITY for underprivileged school girls who can't afford to buy sanitary pads available on the market. We will use your gift to get resources and materials for making AGATEKA sanitary pads which are washable and reusable, wearable without an underwear. This school year, more than 50.000 Burundian schools girls are in need of AGATEKA pads. Thanks to people like you, to this date SaCoDé has been able to produce and distribute AGATEKA sanitary pads to  more than 255.646 girls across Burundi since 2017. An institute dedicated to spreading and applying humanity's deepest and most consequential ideas.

Understanding how knowledge grows (the primary concern of *epistemology*) is one of the most fundamental questions that humanity has ever asked. Because the growth of knowledge plays a role in every human endeavor–from science to politics to creating artificial intelligence to raising children to entrepreneurship–getting the answer wrong necessarily leads to blind alleys and errors. Fortunately, Karl Popper, David Deutsch, and other thinkers have discovered and elaborated upon the right answer: that knowledge grows via conjecture and criticism.

Such a simple idea (the entire theory of which is called *critical rationalism*) has an enormous number of practical implications for all of the aforementioned fields and any other in which humans can make progress. While the revolutions brought forth by Newton, Darwin, and Einstein were profound and improved mankind's lot in the universe, even they were limited to particular strands of human endeavors. But epistemology is universal for any problem a person or society faces. Therefore, spreading critical rationalism and its implications will dissolve barriers to progress that most people do not even know stand in their way.

Conjecture Institute Inc

An endowment protecting the Los Cedros cloud forest forever.

Held in the mists of the Ecuadorian Tropical Andes, a scientific station works with local communities to protect a cloud forest known as Los Cedros (“The Cedars”). The station encourages artists, educators, and researchers to connect with and learn from Los Cedros, whose walking palm trees and old growth lift racket-tail hummingbirds and critically endangered brown-headed spider monkeys into the clouds. Decades of interdependent artwork and scientific discovery from the station—including over 100 publications—factored into the 2021 [decision of Ecuador’s highest court](https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/dec/02/plan-to-mine-in-ecuador-forest-violate-rights-of-nature-court-rules-aoe) to ban extractive practices in the forest by upholding Los Cedros’ constitutional rights to exist and to thrive.

This ruling set a monumental precedent for worldwide Rights of Nature efforts. Yet mining companies continue to apply pressure to Los Cedros communities and Ecuadorian authorities—and if mining comes to pass in Los Cedros, it will devastate one of the most biodiverse and endemic forests in the world. Home to thousands of wildlife species, Los Cedros spans 6000 hectares of mostly primary forest habitat. There, the threatened spectacled bear builds a tree bed to feast on aguacatillo berries (tiny avocados), and the elusive jaguar has left her tracks on the banks of waterfalls. In the abundant green shadows, undiscovered fungi, insects, and orchids flourish. A glass frog hides his heartbeat under a leaf.

As one of the rare places where humans can still drink directly from cascading rivers, this refuge also protects numerous watersheds crucial to downstream communities. So, the Los Cedros Fund will prove that the station’s approach of sustainably partnering with the cloud forest and surrounding communities is best for Pachamama—all of Mother Earth, including humans—in the long term.

The Barefoot College, also known as the Social Work and Research Centre is a community-based grassroots organisation working since 1972 based on the Gandhian concept of reaching the last person. It was founded by Sanjit ‘Bunker’ Roy, to harness the skills and intelligence of rural people and ‘specialists’ people with degrees and formal professional competence, to work together to empower local communities. The SWRC/Barefoot aimed at addressing specifically the issues concerning the marginalised, the exploited and the impoverished rural poor living on less than minimum wages; in practical domains like water, education, solar, health, advocacy and rural livelihoods including handicrafts.

Barefoot has sought to provide the opportunity and the right support for communities to participate in planning, executing, and maintaining their own frameworks for development. These processes have provided the opportunity to the rural poor to lift themselves out of relative poverty with dignity and self- respect. The Barefoot College discussed, defined and consolidated the non-negotiables within its body politic (equality, collective decision-making, decentralisation, self reliance, austerity and openness to learning skills).

Barefoot College has been a place where sustainable ideas and the practical knowledge of the poor have been put into practice through work in education and skill development. This work has, in turn, resulted in large-scale impact in rainwater harvesting, solar electrification, non- formal education, health, conservation, women’s empowerment and culture. Barefoot has shown the potential of giving the rural poor an opportunity and support to develop self-sufficiency. What Barefoot has effectively demonstrated is the sustainability of the combination of traditional knowledge (symbolised by “barefoot”) and demystified modern skills.

Since 2009, Gator Wilderness Camp School has served over 180 boys and families in Southwest Florida.

Gator Wilderness Camp School is located in Charlotte County in southwest Florida. Located on a 250 acre property, Gator Wilderness Camp is a year around camping program designed specifically to serve adolescent boys from the ages of 11-15 years old. This group of boys is significantly struggling to interpret a myriad of issues in their families, schools, and communities. We are a private, non-profit (501C3) organization dedicated to sharing Christ’s unconditional love with families and their sons. It is the goal of Gator Wilderness Camp to pursue relationships with those in need and to offer a navigational beacon of hope and healing in the name of Christ.

From 2008-2018, they built and maintained TradeSchool.coop, an international peer-to-peer learning platform that was used in 30 cities internationally. Caroline Woolard is the co-founder of Art.coop, a national network of art and design cooperatives, and the co-author of Making and Being, a book about collaborative pedagogy. Zubalsky and Woolard have taught for over a decade at The New School, Rhode Island School of Design, Cooper Union, the School of Visual Arts, the University of New Mexico, Bennington College, George Washington University, and the University of Hartford. NVP-USA celebrates four decades in the creative application of trauma-informed peacebuilding across community and culture.  

In memory and inspired by artist-extraordinaire John Lennon who lost his life to gun violence on the streets of New York, the **Non-Violence Project USA (NVP-USA)** applies its symbol, the "knotted gun," to promote the universal alternative to violence:  **peace**.

The symbol is one of the world's most impactful images, its installation in major cities planting the vision for peace to prevail.  The original sculpture stands as the monument to non-violence at the entrance to the United Nations.  

**Each year, over 1.6 million people lose their lives to violence, World Health Organization, World Report on Violence and Health.  Gun violence is now the number-one cause of death for children and young adults in the United States.** 

Every 7 minutes an adolescent is killed by an act of violence.  130 million students between age 13 -15 experience bullying.  30% of American workers claim to suffer from mobbing.  60% of women have been victims of forms of sexual harassment during their working life.

NVP has introduced non-violence principles and practices to over 10 million youth worldwide, and through its **Schools for Peace** curriculum offers its ***Why Knot?*** violence-prevention workshops to school districts and community-based organizations across America.  The organization and its studio offer replicas of Artist Ambassador custom-designed sculptures, the proceeds supporting NVP educational programs.  Additionally, the **Cities for Peace** program provides the opportunity for cities across the United States to purchase, install and dedicate a bronze "knotted gun" sculpture as a permanent demonstration of non-violence in their community. Nyanam is a restorative justice organization preparing widows to lead positive community transformation.

We are a restorative justice organization, preparing widows to be leaders of positive social transformation in their communities through integrated programs in leadership, health, livelihoods and justice. Our work alleviates widowhood poverty, mitigates the impact of HIV/AIDS, and gives widows the tools to tackle oppressive cultural, economic, and social practices that undermine widows’ dignity and limit their agency.

Past and current activities 
Our unit of operation is the leadership circles, which are self-led widow-to-widow support groups that meet on a weekly basis. We also have youth mentorship groups that organize and meet weekly during school holidays. In the leadership circles, widows offer each other spiritual, emotional, and economic support, replacing isolation and loneliness with communities of friendship. These circles consolidate their collective voice to guide the design and implementation of Nyanam’s work. As an organization, we have five main program areas that guide how we engage with Nyanam widows and their children. We use capacity strengthening as the core approach in implementing our programs. Our holistic interventions in leadership, livelihoods, health, justice, and youth education are delivered through our unique curriculum called Voice of Change, a Nyanam’s unique and widow centric training curriculum tailored to respond to the needs and concerns of widows, and uses storytelling, deep listening, and social action as approaches for community transformation. 

Leadership: Widowhood thrusts women into household leadership in patriarchal culture where male headship is valued and expected. We affirm the leadership of widows and harness their potential for community transformation. From the leadership circles, we have trained 640 widows in our various capacities who have in turned trained 780 widows in the same knowledge and skills in their groups. Further, leadership circles conduct Bible studies for spiritual development, personal sharing for emotional support, and table banking for economic development. 

Livelihoods: Our livelihood program has two main components; economic empowerment and sustainable agriculture. We train Nyanam widows in sustainable agriculture, financial literacy, table banking and micro- business skills. We offer them seed funding for their group table banking and businesses, we provide them with vegetable seeds for planting, and new gardening resources (multistorey gardens). 

Health: Nyanam widows' health and well-being is our primary focus. In this program we train our widows in trauma healing, preventative health and counselling. Through our professional and trained counselors, we provide widows with individual and group counseling sessions which support and addresses each widows’ nuanced situation and unique set of challenges, as well as mental health workshops with specific themes at the request of the widows. Further, we have a team of trained community health volunteers that provide monthly health talk sessions in the different leadership circles as well as home visits and health referrals where needed. 

Justice: Access to, ownership and control of land is both a human right and an economic justice for widows. In this program, we raise awareness on widowhood issues and take action to address injustices related to land, housing and widows’ rights. We ensure this through community leaders education and training, conducting conflict resolution sessions among Nyanam widows and their relatives, provide direct legal support to widows who are pursuing their land and property inheritance and succession, provide housing support  by building Nyanam widows dignified houses in partnership with other stakeholders and undertake policy advocacy with different government agencies and policy makers on widows human rights. 

Youth Education: Widows’ children are particularly a population in need of support, as poverty limits the future of both the widows and their families. Guided by our 3-year youth education strategy, we provide capacity training to Nyanam widows children in comprehensive health education, technology and robotics and environmental justice. The training is multiplied in the youth mentorship groups by a group of trained Nyanam youth mentors supported by trained widow matrons. In addition, we provide need based secondary school education sponsorship to widows children to improves student access to secondary education, but also builds students’ communication skills and goal setting through the application and mentorship process. 

In the future we are planning to serve up to 10,000 widows in our region and establish a widow-led cooperative business for financial security and additional income for Nyanam widows improving their financial status and muscles. Further, we seek to expand the work to other communities through training of different partners and stakeholders in our intervention the Voice of Change as a key driver for positive community transformation in the communities of widows.

 Founded in 1994, the Remember Museum is one of the most interesting of its kind. It is housed in an old renovated barn and is comprised mainly of items abandoned by the American First Infantry Division soldiers who once enjoyed "R & R" at the Schmetz' s farm when Marcel was a young boy. The artifacts include personal items given by numerous WWII Veterans from various units. It is a museum with a human dimension, made great by its welcoming environment, its originality, its simplicity. The museum strives to serve as the testimony of our gratefulness towards all the G.I.s who, at the risk of their lives, gave us our freedom back. Because curators Marcel & Mathilde (M&M) are nearing retirement, the museum and its contents will be transferred to the King Baudouin Foundation and a board of directors will manage the future of this great endeavor, while keeping it warm and personal much like M&M themselves. We are a community-based, non-profit organization that serves the homeless and at-risk populations of the Mid-Peninsula. We establish environments and build relationships where community volunteers can provide food and clothing, as well as referrals for shelter, addiction recovery, and other personal support.

Street Life Ministries (or SLM) began in 2001 at the downtown Menlo Park train station. Today, due to the help of many people, it now serves over 35,000 meals a year, five nights a week, in Menlo Park, Palo Alto and Redwood City. For 20 years SLM gatherings have built a reputation as the one consistent place the homeless can count on. Whether it is a holiday, a cloudy or rainy day, SLM never varies from the set schedule, giving the homeless a stable option throughout the year.

SLM is an established 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a board of directors, and is very different from many “feeding ministries.” It serves a unique role in the way it cares for the homeless and the hungry in San Mateo/Santa Clara Counties. Hot, home cooked meals served in outdoor venues are less threatening for our homeless neighbors, fostering a safe environment for relational connections to develop with the SLM leaders and volunteers. These connections build trust for guiding homeless friends toward healthier decisions, medical assistance, detox, rehab, housing, mentorship and counseling. In addition to food and encouragement, SLM provides clothing, toiletry kits, sleeping bags, medical supplies, temporary shelter, recovery services and job assistance to those in need. 

SLM is also unique because it places its staff and its services “in the streets”, and “in the camps”, where the homeless live. It reaches more homeless people directly in those street locations than traditional professional service agencies. Additionally, no other homeless non-profit in the area provides local residents with the large number (over 6000 hours per year, estimated) of volunteer hours of opportunity to meet directly and be served on a face to face basis as we do. Homeless folks need love, care, trustworthy friends, and reliable, regular support to improve and/or recover. SLM is “in the trenches and on the street” every day, helping our homeless neighbors. SLM’s outreach can be accessed at all hours of the day and night.

Our latest business initiative in Kenya is Beehives. We have started two apiaries with 25 hives each in two separate villages. The beehives are a long term investment that we expect to pay big dividends in self reliance for these communities. A purchase of 25 Beehives is about a $4000 investment. Gabriel, Caroline and Emmanuel, 3 of our students live with their widowed mother, Meleon, in this mud hut that has reached the point of collapse. Funding of $500 has been provided. We need to raise an additional $500-$1000 to build a new home with solar lighting and a water tank to store rain water off the roof. This will provide a clean, dry and safe environment with adequate lighting to do studies. It gets dark at 6:00 pm in Kenya year round.  The water tank will eliminate long treks to fetch water for cooking and drinking.

Projects range from raising chickens for eggs, meat and market, goats and cows for milk, meat or market. We establish gardens in communities for the production of food for consumption and market.

*Clean, safe, dry and adequate living accommodations are essential for families to thrive. We provide solar power for homes where electricity is not available. Students achieve better results in school when basic home lighting is available in the evening hours so they can study and read. 

Money raised through fund raisers and direct individual donations go directly to No End to Love’s humanitarian and charitable purposes. Administration costs are self funded and supplemented with 5% from proceeds from our Savers Clothing Drives. We have no staff or rent to pay but there are always some expenses involved when running an organization.
