Versailles is famous and glittering, but the Vaux-le-Vicomte is such a personal experience of exquisite beauty.  I found the aesthetics easily as breathtaking as Versaille, but in a more serene and inviting environment.  If you go to Versaille, make the time to go to the place that inspired Louis XIII to build Versaille:  Vaux-le-Vicomte
