An international study centre for textiles, textile crafts, and dress, worldwide and from prehistory to the present day.

The Textile Research Centre (TRC) is a knowledge centre set up in 1991 as an independent foundation. Since 2009 it is housed at Hogewoerd 164, in the centre of historic Leiden, The Netherlands. Here it has the use of an exhibition space, a large depot, offices and workrooms. The basic aim of the TRC is to give the study of textiles, dress, and accessories their proper place in the field of humanities and social sciences, but also in the context of crafts and craft education. The TRC does so by providing courses and lectures, carrying out research and by the presentation of textiles and dress from all over the world. The two main focal points of the TRC are (a) dress and identity: what people wear in order to say who they are and (b) textile crafts and technology, both pre-industrial and industrial.

In order to reach its objectives, the TRC houses various collections, of more than 50,000 items, including a Textile and Garment Collection and a Reference Collection for fibres, threads, dyes, weaves, printed and machine embroidered textiles, and so forth. Most of the objects are photographed, and are available online (open access), with detailed information, In addition, research is aided by the TRC’s library (some 6,500 books, a large collection of articles, as well as visual material such as photographs, prints and postcards). Students, designers and academics come from many countries to Leiden to use the TRC’s facilities and to attend workshops and courses.

The Kyiv Independent was born out of a **fight for freedom of speech**. It was co-founded by a group of journalists who were fired from the Kyiv Post, then a prominent newspaper, as the owner attempted to take the newsroom under control and end its critical coverage of Ukrainian authorities.

Just three months after the Kyiv Independent was launched, Russia invaded Ukraine. **Our team stayed in Ukraine and kept on reporting on what was now a war against their country.**

The team’s resilience and **uncompromising reporting quickly made the Kyiv Independent a key source of news** from Ukraine for millions of people around the world.

**We vowed to serve the principles of honest journalism even during an ongoing war**. We have published investigations, including into misconduct within the Ukrainian military. Everywhere we look, we see the unemployed and the economically disadvantaged. Some we look at and say, they get what they deserve, they did work hard and I did. You can look at this problem with compassion, understanding that it isn't that simple or you can look at it from the selfish perspective: their lack of contribution affects us. 

KeelWorks helps students transition to employment, others with some education practice in area related to experience to gain qualifications for greater responsibility. In both of these, thousands have come and left with paying jobs.

We are building the KeelMaster program to respond to the more challenged unemployed and under employed. This program requires comprehensive assessment to uncover and mitigate barriers as well as identify strengths. It then assigns to small facilitated teams where they learn eight core competencies (self-identify, critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, assertiveness, team-building, goal determination, and goal management). Teams stay together with facilitation pursuing goals and supporting each other for as long as it takes for all to be stable in employment. 

The KeelMaster program has prompted the development of a learning management system, a participant environment, a participant record, and several other applications designed and developed by volunteers. Some of these we hope to offer as a vehicle for funding the foundation and an endowment fund.

801 Labs is a Salt Lake City based hackerspace created by local information technology, electronics, and information security enthusiasts. 801 Labs is a physical space designed to be a center for peer learning and knowledge sharing in the form of workshops, presentations, and lectures. We also offer regular activities to the community, where people can gather to work on their own projects, exchange ideas, and learn from each other. Since 801 Labs is intended to be a shared community resource, almost all of our events are free and open to the public.

801 Labs runs a wide variety of classes that cover topics ranging from designing and building electronics, to information security, to programming, to 3D printing and 3D modeling, and more. Since we are a community run organization, our class offerings are based on what members of the local community are proficient in and willing to teach. 801 Labs

Indie Short Film Festival lifts diverse voices through films, panels, and youth programs that inspire culture, dialogue, & change.

The **2026 Indie Short Film Festival (ISFF)** returns March 20–22, 2026, bringing an expanded and dynamic program to downtown Charlottesville. Now in its third year, the festival will showcase **100+ short films** from independent filmmakers across the U.S. and abroad, alongside panel discussions, workshops, Brunch Awards, Screenwriting Competition,live music events, and community-centered programming that celebrates storytelling in all its forms.

The festival’s official selections span a wide range of **film blocks**, including **animation, documentary, and live-action short films**, curated around compelling themes that explore personal journeys, social issues, cultural identity, humor, resilience, and imagination. Together, these films reflect the diversity and creative ambition driving today’s independent film landscape.

The festival’s programming takes place in six venues, all conveniently located on the vibrant downtown mall. 

**Panels, Partnerships, and Conversations that Matter**

A cornerstone of ISFF 2026 is its robust lineup of **panel discussions** featuring filmmakers, industry professionals, scholars, and creatives. Topics include **Animation**, **Artificial Intelligence in Film**, **Distribution**, **Screenwriting**, **Women in Film**, **The Black Experience in American Cinema**, and more.

New for 2026 is a **premier partnership with the Festival of the Book**, debuting the panel **“Words on Pages to the Screen,”** which explores how novels and literary works are adapted into films. This timely collaboration bridges literature and cinema, offering audiences a deeper look at the creative and practical process of adaptation.

Also new for the festival, the Indie short Film Festival has partnered with the **School of Visual Arts New York** presenting an animation film block loaded with 14 outstanding animated films. 

**New Initiative**

**The Youth Internship Pathway Program** (YIPP) provides closer look for local youths into the world of opportunities the film industry offers in terms of careers. Often young people look at the "movie business" as something you can only dream about or be very lucky to achieve, as they are mesmerized by the stardom of the people in front of the camera. But have no idea of the people who actually make it all happen. The crafts of being a Gaffer, Grib, Assistant Camera Operator, Camera Operator, Director of Photography, Set Designer, and many other positions are not known to the average person watching a film. YIPP connects the intern with a visiting filmmaker with a film in the festival to shadow them part of the weekend with a formal sit down lunch, the intern attending panel discussions and the film screening of the paired filmmaker, and later providing the festival with a report of their learning,

**Launch Party, Competitions, and Workshops**

The festival kicks off with a high-energy Launch Party featuring the popular band SHAGWÜF, starring Sally Rose, with music by DJ Dutchie. The event brings filmmakers, artists, and the community together to celebrate the start of the weekend in true ISFF style.

ISFF 2026 also features a **Screenwriting Competition**, culminating in a live **Table Read Event**, where selected screenplays are performed before an audience—highlighting emerging voices and the craft of storytelling at its earliest stage.

For filmmakers and creatives looking to sharpen their skills, the festival will host a **Cinematography Workshop**, offering practical insights into visual storytelling, camera techniques, and creative decision-making behind the lens.

**Celebrating Excellence**

The weekend concludes with the **Sunday Brunch Awards** **and screenings**, honoring outstanding films, performances, and creative achievements across multiple categories. The awards ceremony provides a celebratory close to a weekend dedicated to independent voices and cinematic excellence.

The Friends of Bangladesh works to protect human rights and democracy in Bangladesh.


In early August 2024, opposition to an autocratic regime in Bangladesh grew to the point where the government collapsed, and the now former Prime Minister fled the country. Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus was then appointed Chief Adviser to lead an Interim Government. In response to this changing landscape, what had been the Protect Yunus Campaign transformed into what is now called ["Friends of Bangladesh,"](https://www.thefriendsofbangladesh.com/) which is supporting positive outcomes in the world's eighth most populous country during this critical interim period. In so doing, we seek to advance the well-being of the people of Bangladesh. 

Friends of Bangladesh needs additional funding to continue its activities in five areas:

1. Provide timely analysis of the evolving situation in Bangladesh through our website, [blog](https://www.thefriendsofbangladesh.com/blog/), webinars, and active social media channels (in part to combat disinformation circulating online about the current situation in the country).
2. Promote harmonious relations between Bangladesh and neighboring countries that have the ability to influence events there through strategic communications, online and in-person convenings, and effectively coordinating with allies and friends of Bangladesh.
3. Engage in a proactive media relations strategy, including the placement of op-eds and ensuring unbiased and fact-based coverage by influential regional media outlets that shape public opinion in the region and beyond.
4. Inform, mobilize, and grow the network of allies of Bangladesh around the world, including members of the Bangladeshi diaspora and others interested in seizing this historic moment for the nation to thrive.
5. Support the efforts of [a private foundation](https://jssfbd.com/) set up by Professor Yunus to ensure appropriate assistance to an estimated 20,000 students and others who were injured during the July/August uprising by police and paramilitaries, and also to compensate the families of the 1,400 who were killed. The government has allocated $8.3 million to this foundation but that amount is nearly 100% expended, and the foundation is seeking private donations to support future activities and victim compensation. We have developed relationships with [Myriad USA](https://www.every.org/july-shaheed-smrity-foundation), [Myriad Australia](https://myriadaustralia.org/services/donate/july-shaheed-smrity-foundation/), and [Transnational Giving Europe](https://donate.transnationalgiving.eu/landing/July_Shaheed_Smrity_Foundation?lang=en_EN) to allow for tax deductibility for donations from the United States, Australia, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and Germany.

[Gutenberg Communications](https://www.thegutenberg.com/), the digital marketing and public relations firm we have retained since January 2024, and the three part-time staff of Friends of Bangladesh, are all veterans of the Protect Yunus Campaign and have built up a high degree of trust with Professor Yunus, his team, and other civil society actors. The two co-directors—Sam Daley-Harris and Alex Counts—have been associated with Bangladesh and Professor Yunus since the 1980s. Friends of Bangladesh works closely with allies in Europe, India, Japan, South Korea, and beyond.

Friends of Bangladesh partners with Global Impact to ensure tax deductibility for all donations and intends to register as a tax-exempt entity in 2025, provided sufficient funding can be secured.

Since 1958, Children of the Mekong supports children’s education in Southeast Asia. 

In Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar, we help children grow through [child sponsorship](https://www.childrenofthemekong.org/sponsor-a-child/) and [education projects](https://www.childrenofthemekong.org/get-involved/support-a-project/).

Our priorities of action are early childhood, girls' education, slums, rural populations, refugees, children with disability, and ethnic minorities.

Center for Transformative Action

The Rivanna Area Queer Center provides a safe refuge for all LGBTQIA+ people 
in Charlottesville and the surrounding counties.

LGBTQIA+ people need spaces of our own where we can take refuge, build resilient communities, and organize for our collective liberation. RAQC provides a safe and loving home for the queer community in Charlottesville and the surrounding counties. Programming at RAQC addresses multiple areas of need: support groups, peer counseling, and on-site mental health professionals contribute to the emotional wellbeing of our community. Classes and workshops on topics as diverse as screen printing, foraging, and self defense address our physical and creative needs. Social events like mixers, parties, and performances ensure that our region’s vibrant queer culture continues to flourish. In addition to our own programming, RAQC also serves as a safe and accessible space where all local queer organizations and individuals can host their own events.

To assist and protect orphans, street children, and children victims of abuse in Egypt, their families and communities.

To support the most vulnerable children in Egypt, through one of the most innovative NGO in Egypt. FACE supports over 3000 children per year and promotes child protection and alternative care best practices in Egypt.

FACE provides services to safeguard children, by addressing their needs and working with their communities to create practical, innovative and sustainable solutions to ensure them a better future. Since 2003, FACE has been running projects in Egypt, with the aim to improve child protection and develop alternative care for children living in institutions, and to reduce the number of children and youths working or living on the streets and reintegrate them into their society.

FACE has been working with orphans and abandoned children since 2003, and the organization runs since 2024 the first National Kafala Center in Egypt in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, which aims at receiving all abandoned babies and orphans in Greater Cairo and Alexandria to ensure these babies have a chance to be placed in a Kafala family (local form of adoption/alternative care).                                                                FACE also runs 2 homes for children (males and females) who cannot be placed into Kafala families and who need to be raised and supported toward their social integration. A new aftercare program was created in 2021 to ensure all young people receive adequate support to ensure their social and professional integration after they leave the care of FACE.

Since 2008 FACE also runs a Street Children Program, composed of a large outreach team supporting children on the streets, in detention centers and in the poorest communities and slums through prevention activities. The Program runs a transitional home and case management team working to support children, and their families provide preventive support or to ensure children safe and sustainable reintegration. The program has become a model of good practice and provides support to more than 3500 children and to hundreds families every year.

Both programs include a Training component, to ensure the systematic and ongoing training of all FACE projects teams, to ensure effective children protection and high standards in service provision. The FACE training also works to provide training and technical support to different local organizations, schools, companies, and to local and national child protection public bodies about Child protection, childcare, social work, non-formal education, alternative care and other topics.

Sine 2022, FACE is facing the increasingly difficult economic context in Egypt, with a very high inflation and several devaluation of the local currency in recent years, which have contributed to increase needs for support among the poorest categories of the population, but in the same time have largely affected the organization finances. FACE needs your support to contribute to our work in favor of child protection in Egypt and to help us to continue providing support to the most vulnerable children in Egypt.

Since 2009, Gator Wilderness Camp School has served over 180 boys and families in Southwest Florida.

Gator Wilderness Camp School is located in Charlotte County in southwest Florida. Located on a 250 acre property, Gator Wilderness Camp is a year around camping program designed specifically to serve adolescent boys from the ages of 11-15 years old. This group of boys is significantly struggling to interpret a myriad of issues in their families, schools, and communities. We are a private, non-profit (501C3) organization dedicated to sharing Christ’s unconditional love with families and their sons. It is the goal of Gator Wilderness Camp to pursue relationships with those in need and to offer a navigational beacon of hope and healing in the name of Christ.

The Prison Mathematics Project supports incarcerated individuals pursue self-studies in the field of mathematics.

The Prison Mathematics Project (PMP) brings math into prison in three different ways. 

1. Our one-on-one mentorship program pairs incarcerated individuals with a mathematical mentor. Our mentors are professors, post-docs, PhD students, undergraduates, math teachers, and people working in industry who have a passion for math. Once paired, the mentorship works to reach the educational goals of the incarcerated participant. This is done through letters, e-messaging, and phone calls when available. Deep relationships are formed that continue post-release and are a great way to support the difficult transition back to the outside world. 
2. Math circles in prison are a great way to build a community around math. Local mathematicians go into the prison to lead 1-2 hour events that work on problems solving and analytical thinking skills. Some of the topics explored in these events are combinatorics, number theory, graph theory, etc.  We have done events in Washington, Michigan, North Dakota, and we have upcoming events planned in New Jersey, Calgary, and Toronto. 
3. The PMP Console is a coding app that goes on inmates' tablets. It has a text editor, complier, and courses with exercises and explanations. It has recently been approved for a pilot program at the biggest prison in Australia. Giving people more technical skills and education will lead to better post-release employment and will help lower the recidivism rate.

The Fungi Foundation is a global organization that works for the Fungi, their habitats, and the people who depend on them.

Launched in 2012, the Fungi Foundation is the first NGO dedicated to the fungi kingdom. Since its inception, it has achieved numerous milestones while dedicating itself to exploring the fungi world in view of increasing knowledge of their diversity, educating about their applications, and recommending public policy for their conservation. As part of our ongoing 3F initiative, the foundation played a key role in enabling Chile to become the first country in the world to include protection of fungi in its environmental legislation. More recently, the foundation proudly announced the Fantastic Fungi Education Curriculum, the world's first mycological set of courses designed for schools.

In short, the Fungi Foundation envisions a healthy planet in which Fungi are recognized, protected, and embraced as the interconnectors of nature; a mission that would be impossible without the essential support of our kind, engaged donors.

We are a community-based, non-profit organization that serves the homeless and at-risk populations of the Mid-Peninsula. We establish environments and build relationships where community volunteers can provide food and clothing, as well as referrals for shelter, addiction recovery, and other personal support.

Street Life Ministries (or SLM) began in 2001 at the downtown Menlo Park train station. Today, due to the help of many people, it now serves over 35,000 meals a year, five nights a week, in Menlo Park, Palo Alto and Redwood City. For 20 years SLM gatherings have built a reputation as the one consistent place the homeless can count on. Whether it is a holiday, a cloudy or rainy day, SLM never varies from the set schedule, giving the homeless a stable option throughout the year.

SLM is an established 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a board of directors, and is very different from many “feeding ministries.” It serves a unique role in the way it cares for the homeless and the hungry in San Mateo/Santa Clara Counties. Hot, home cooked meals served in outdoor venues are less threatening for our homeless neighbors, fostering a safe environment for relational connections to develop with the SLM leaders and volunteers. These connections build trust for guiding homeless friends toward healthier decisions, medical assistance, detox, rehab, housing, mentorship and counseling. In addition to food and encouragement, SLM provides clothing, toiletry kits, sleeping bags, medical supplies, temporary shelter, recovery services and job assistance to those in need. 

SLM is also unique because it places its staff and its services “in the streets”, and “in the camps”, where the homeless live. It reaches more homeless people directly in those street locations than traditional professional service agencies. Additionally, no other homeless non-profit in the area provides local residents with the large number (over 6000 hours per year, estimated) of volunteer hours of opportunity to meet directly and be served on a face to face basis as we do. Homeless folks need love, care, trustworthy friends, and reliable, regular support to improve and/or recover. SLM is “in the trenches and on the street” every day, helping our homeless neighbors. SLM’s outreach can be accessed at all hours of the day and night.
