Our Lady Of The Resurrection Monastery is a nonprofit organization in Lagrangeville, NY. It received its nonprofit status in 1977.

Our mission as a faith community is to empower people of all backgrounds and ages to embark on a journey of engaged spirituality, fostering healing within themselves through contemplation, study, nurturing harmonious relationships within the beloved community, and deepening their connection to all beings and the Earth. 5. **Engaging for Change:** We actively engage with the pressing social and ecological crises of our times, based in our contemplative experience which leads to the wisdom of non-discrimination. We avoid othering by not getting caught in ideology. We look deeply to understand the harms caused by systemic racism and white supremacy, patriarchy, materialism, capitalism and its resulting inequalities, ecological devastation, militarism and the war economy, and religious nationalism. Through informed action and engagement, we work towards personal, social, and ecological healing and transformation, actively contributing to the betterment of our world. 
6. **Offering Radical Welcome:** Our community is inclusive and welcoming to all peoples. We are especially attentive to the needs of younger adults and youth and orient our community with future generations in mind. We offer radical welcome to Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, as well as Queer and trans folks and their experiences, co-creating brave and affirming space.  

In pursuing these six core principles, we seek to embody the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Ven. **About Adam Bucko and Kaira Jewel Lingo**

Father Adam Bucko, an Episcopal priest, and Rev. Kaira Jewel Lingo, a Buddhist Dharma teacher in the Plum Village Zen and Vipassana lineages, were appointed as directors and board members of Our Lady of the Resurrection Monastery, Inc., a religious nonprofit organization. In this capacity, they became guardians of the monastery and its mission. They seek to revitalize and develop the 22-acre site to continue its original mission of contemplation and renewed forms of monastic living while also establishing it as a Christian-Buddhist Retreat and Training Center. **The History of Our Lady of the Resurrection Monastery**

Our Lady of the Resurrection is nestled on a secluded hilltop in Dutchess County. The monastery was founded by Victor-Antoine d’Avila-Latourrette, a French monk who lived there as a hermit monk for more than 40 years. His daily life was rooted in and dictated by the natural rhythms of the earth as he followed the monastic Rule of St. Benedict and listened to God "with the ear of the heart" while tending the gardens, growing food, feeding the animals, offering spiritual guidance to visitors, and sanctifying his days with the prayers of the liturgy of the hours.

One media outlet said of Brother Victor in 2001, "He has a terminal case of serenity, and he wants to pass it on" to those who come to the monastery for prayer and guidance. "To live fully in the present," Brother Victor said, "we must be aware that reality is physical and spiritual, immediate and eternal, all at the same time." "People imagine monks praying, chanting, and reading," he said, "not scrubbing floors and milking cows. They are often astonished to discover that for us, prayer and work are the same thing."

Brother Victor suffered a debilitating stroke in the summer of 2014 and died February 28, 2023, at the age of 83. We are grateful to have him as our spiritual ancestor now.

Founded in 1989 by Bryan Stevenson, a widely acclaimed public interest lawyer and bestselling author of Just Mercy, EJI is a private, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides legal representation to people who have been illegally convicted, unfairly sentenced, or abused in state jails and prisons. We challenge the death penalty and excessive punishment and we provide re-entry assistance to formerly incarcerated people.

DC Mutual Aid Apothecary (DCMA) is a Black, femme, and queer-led mutual aid network stewarded by and centered in the needs of Black and otherwise marginalized communities in the District’s Wards 7 & 8. Since our founding in 2020, we have grown from a rapid COVID-19 response project into a healing justice hub of herbalists, community health practitioners, farmers, and organizers collaborating to provide accessible herbal products, education, and resources to an intergenerational community. Rooted in practices of solidarity and community care, DCMA is building an alternative vision for a more equitable District health care system. Our programming and partnerships create spaces for our community to access herbal medicine and education, reconnect to ancestral plant knowledge, steward land, and build networks and relationships towards radical systems change.

The **Promise of Justice Initiative** (PJI) is a New Orleans-based decarceration organization that stands at the forefront of the fight for the dignity, freedom, and autonomy of those targeted and touched by the criminal legal system and mass incarceration.

Because racism and mass incarceration are entrenched and pervasive, PJI’s approach is multifaceted, including collective action, legislative advocacy, civil and criminal litigation, and reframing narrative discourse. PJI:

- Challenges the notion that prisons keep us safe and that people with convictions do not deserve basic rights.
- Fights for freedom for people sentenced to die in prison.
- Blocks harmful legislation and pushes for legislation that heals and improves lives.
- Partners in and co-strategizes social movement work with hundreds of incarcerated people.
- Advances the voices of people impacted by violence and mass incarceration
- Builds powerful authentic stories, pushes counter-narratives, and changes discourse.

PJI is a different kind of civil rights organization; we don’t follow any national agenda or framework. We confront issues and take on cases that, very often, no other organization will venture to challenge. Our work requires **deep investments of time, energy, creativity, and collaboration** with partner organizations, legal and community stakeholders, and those most directly impacted by the criminal legal system. Our work **blurs the traditional lines of litigation and advocacy** as we develop and execute novel legal and engagement strategies to attack seemingly intractable problems.

Our methodology is **client-centered and community-partnered**. We use power building, narrative construction, and storytelling as core vehicles. Our proximity to impacted people, their partnership with us, and our systems-level work inform our strategy. PJI doesn’t guess at problems; we learn about them first-hand from incarcerated people, victims, survivors, and impacted family and community members.

Every kid deserves a supportive environment to learn and grow, but funding cuts, mass incarceration, and attacks on education deprive many young people of that opportunity. Children with incarcerated loved ones navigate childhood in the shadow of carceral systems. Freedom Side School (FSS) was founded to provide a tuition-free elementary abolitionist education to children directly impacted by mass incarceration. **Freedom Side is a place where we teach love, learn freedom, and practice healing justice.** 

- **At Freedom Side School** we provide a free education rooted in abolitionist values to children impacted by incarceration. We nurture our students as visionaries, organizers, and architects of a more free world.
- **At Freedom Side Commons** families, educators and organizers work across prison walls to build a home where we learn together, care for each other, and grow our movement toward abolitionist futures.

This is a unique project with tremendous potential to positively impact children and families now, while building toward broad, generational impacts for our city, our movement, and beyond. 

**We will open our doors to our first class of Kindergarten and 1st grade students in September 2026.** We will add a new class of students each year until we reach our full K-5 capacity. Every dollar we fundraise will go toward making each child’s tuition at Freedom Side School totally free to families, but the true cost of each child’s tuition is $25,000 per year. Women of Color Unite (WOCU) is a social action non-profit organization focusing on fair access, fair treatment and fair pay for women of color in all aspects of the entertainment and media industries.
