Cambodian non-profit arts school supporting youth through artistic & educational programs

Phare Ponleu Selpak is a Cambodian non-profit arts school located in Battambang, offering support to children, youth and the surrounding communities through artistic, educational and social support programmes.

Phare Phare Ponleu Selpak was founded more than a quarter of a century ago, by nine Cambodians, who grew up in a refugee camp after surviving the genocide of the Khmer Rouge, and their French arts teacher. Resilience and hope has been in Phare’s DNA from the very beginning, and from a simple arts school it blossomed into the multi-faceted creative hub it is today.

Phare educates and trains thousands of children and youth who come from challenging backgrounds. Most receive a mainstream education which helps them thrive as adults, but others become artists, performers and musicians who keep Cambodia’s creative culture alive after its almost total destruction by the Khmer Rouge. We offer them social support, education and arts programs so they can build their future and support their families through creative careers.

We believe education is more than knowledge, it’s the chance to create, express, and belong. Our fund opens doors for children through access to education, music, and art, while also empowering women in the arts to share their voices with the world.

Corazones Unidos

Espacio MUY showcases contemporary Maya and Zoque art in Chiapas via archives, a cultural center, and exhibitions.

This cultural project to promote the arts among the Maya and Zoque peoples of Chiapas, Mexico began in December of 2014. There is a dynamic cultural milieu in these traditionalist communities of Tsotsil, Tseltal, Ch'ol and other Maya languages spearheaded by young and mid-career creatives, all born in rural villages, active in painting, sculpture, photography and performance. MUY promotes outreach to the communities, trains in art, exhibits and publishes on Indigenous art for social justice, ecology, gender and diversity, and defense of the territory of and by Native Peoples. Our special projects include facilitating residencies for Maya/Zoque creators and virtual and live art-events toward sharing Indigenous aesthetics, wisdom and g/local empowerment and spiritual enrichment. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit with EIN 52-2032649, ICAF has served American children since 1997 as their national arts organization. ICAF seeds their imagination, cultivates creativity, and grows mutual empathy among them (for “a more perfect union”) and with their peers worldwide (for a peaceful future).

Creativity is now more crucial than ever before as a career skill, while empathy is considered humanity's survival skill. 

What young people contribute or create in their lives depends on their self-identity. The development of a holistic student identity underlies ICAF’s theory of change.

Through its free school art program, ICAF promotes the Artist-Athlete Ideal, which embodies a creative mind and a healthy body (*mente sana in corpore sano*). ICAF’s Arts Olympiad has evolved over the years into the world’s largest school art program. Its structured lesson plans culminate in art contests on the theme "My Favorite Sport." ICAF selects the most exceptional artworks and invites the young Artists-Athletes as delegates to the World Children’s Festival. The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee has granted ICAF an exclusive license to utilize the "Arts Olympiad" mark.

The 7th Arts Olympiad, currently taking place in the United States and nearly fifty countries, is projected to benefit more than half a million students worldwide. The World Children’s Festival (WCF) offers a transformative experience, infusing creativity with empathy to give them hope. While learning is a biological process that creates new neural connections, developing empathy necessitates unlearning ingrained biases and prejudices to activate the “mirror neurons” that underpin empathetic responses. As empathy flourishes, divisions diminish, polarization lessens, consensus emerges, nations come together, and the world becomes more peaceful. The educational programming for this three-day public celebration of children's talents is rooted in STEAMS education, an innovative approach developed by ICAF that integrates Arts and Sports into the STEM disciplines. The 7th World Children’s Festival, held at the National Mall from June 30 to July 2, 2026, will also serve as the children's celebration of America's 250th birthday.

**Art & Sports Online Contests**
To engage children worldwide in the LA28 Olympics, ICAF has launched an online art contest for students aged 8 to 20. Artists' Television Access is an all-volunteer, artist-run, underground and experimental media arts gallery founded in 1984.

Artists’ Television Access is a San Francisco-based, artist-run, non-profit organization that cultivates and promotes culturally-aware, underground media and experimental art. We provide an accessible screening venue and gallery for the presentation of programmed and guest-curated screenings, exhibitions, performances, workshops and events. We believe in fostering a supportive community for the exhibition of innovative art and the exchange of non-conformist ideas.

Artists' Television Access

The Rivanna Area Queer Center provides a safe refuge for all LGBTQIA+ people 
in Charlottesville and the surrounding counties.

LGBTQIA+ people need spaces of our own where we can take refuge, build resilient communities, and organize for our collective liberation. RAQC provides a safe and loving home for the queer community in Charlottesville and the surrounding counties. Programming at RAQC addresses multiple areas of need: support groups, peer counseling, and on-site mental health professionals contribute to the emotional wellbeing of our community. Classes and workshops on topics as diverse as screen printing, foraging, and self defense address our physical and creative needs. Social events like mixers, parties, and performances ensure that our region’s vibrant queer culture continues to flourish. In addition to our own programming, RAQC also serves as a safe and accessible space where all local queer organizations and individuals can host their own events.
