Our service dogs are trained to help improve our client’s quality of life in their day to day living. The dogs also help increase the clients comfort with their socialization skills and ability to go out in public calmly.  Our service dogs can help with opening and closing doors, turning on and off lights, retrieval of items, pushing buttons, carrying back packs and small packages, assisting clients with mobility and balance problems as well as assist with tasks for those in a wheelchair. The service dogs are able to wear a harness for clients with severe balance and mobility issues alleviating the use of a cane in many instances.     Pits for Patriots also trains mental health assistance dogs for those that suffer from PTSD, anxiety and depression.  These dogs are trained to help  with panic prevention, deep pressure calming, backpacking medications and information, boundary control, anxiety alerts, and nightmare interruption.  . They will also help the client with grounding and social interaction skills. The dogs are trained to be “seen and not heard”, for example when entering a restaurant the dog will go under table and not react to the public.  All of our service dogs are held to highest standards.  Our dogs are CGC certified as well as being held to the strict standards of ADI.  Pits For Patriots is currently involved with education to the canine, veteran, and first responder communities.  We participate in many events to educate the public about the devotion of the pit bull breed. We are also dedicated to spreading awareness to the needs of our military and public service personnel.  We provide education and in-service programs to hospitals, restaurants, public facilities, airports, and medical providers about service dogs, the laws, and the benefits to being a service dog friendly institution.  Pits For Patriots clients receive training on how to handle public access concerns and confrontations, as well as advocates to help clients that come across problems in community. ## The Founders Pledge Perspective

At least 75 billion farmed land animals and more than a trillion fish are slaughtered each year. That is more than 2000 land animals and 25,000 fish are killed every second. This is possible due to the mechanization and intensification of factory farming, driven by global increase in demand for meat.

Although this situation seems bleak - and the numbers almost too large to comprehend - there are reasons to be hopeful. Recent years have seen rapid progress in the animal welfare movement. Many large companies have pledged to phase out or drastically reduce some of their industry’s most harmful practices. Governments have banned some of these practices outright. And companies working to commercialize alternative proteins, such as plant-based meats, have raised billions of dollars from investors. 

Yet farm animal welfare remains highly neglected, with just 0.03% of US philanthropic funding going to this cause in 2017. By giving to the Founders Pledge Animal Welfare Index, you can spread your donation across several highly-impactful and neglected global initiatives to alleviate suffering and improve the conditions of factory-farmed animals. By pooling your donations, this Index fund allows you to make larger grants and thereby maximize your impact.

## Our Approach to Grantmaking

When evaluating potential grants, we consider several key points:

- **Counterfactual impact**. Our grants are designed to create a meaningful outcome that would not otherwise have happened. In particular, we aim to make grants that otherwise wouldn’t have been made, rather than those which just take the place of other philanthropists’ donations. This means that you can rely on the Funds to create meaningful, real change, rather than just maintaining the status quo.
- **The grant’s potential outcomes**. We focus on outcomes (e.g. how many lives were saved), rather than outputs (e.g. how many products were delivered). We review all the available evidence and take into account cost-effectiveness to assess whether the grant money could produce more good if donated elsewhere.
- **The organization’s funding gap**. Not all organizations are set up to scale up their programming and many can’t productively absorb large amounts of unsolicited funding. We evaluate all potential grantees’ capacity for growth and consider how much money they could put to good use.
- **Organizational strength**. Particularly with unrestricted funding, it’s important to have trust in the leadership and capacity of the organizations we support. We look at their track record of success and their transparency about failures as well as successes, and we only support those organizations which are exceptionally well run. We also look for organizations that demonstrate a strong commitment to measuring outcomes and evaluating the impact of their programs.

Animal Ethics provides information and promote debate about issues in animal ethics, sentience, animal interests and speciesism.

Detailed information on the data regarding the situation of nonhuman animals as well as on the arguments to defend animals is not always available, and we intend to provide it to all those who want to help them. In addition, we do outreach work ourselves aimed not at stopping particular ways in which animals are harmed (which other organizations are already addressing), but at achieving a shift in attitudes towards speciesism.

Our work deals with the way nonhuman animals are considered in everyday life, as well as how they are considered in fields that affect human attitudes and activities that are relevant to animals. These include academia, scientific fields, and the law. We look at the way nonhuman animals are impacted by current human activities, and how they might be impacted by future planned or unplanned human activities. This involves not only the ways we might harm them, but also how we might help them even when the cause of their plight is not human action.

The field of animal ethics deals with why we should take nonhuman animals into consideration in our moral decisions, and the ways in which we should. This has tremendously relevant practical consequences. Many people currently have little regard for nonhuman animals. But more often, people do give some consideration to the interests of animals, but still have a discriminatory attitude towards them. We can morally consider someone but still discriminate against them in a way that harms them. We can also discriminate against them in ways that don’t harm them at all, such as by helping some individuals more than we help others, for reasons that are unfair. Animal ethics as a field addresses these questions, and it is our aim to deal with them.

Promotes the use of the No Kill Equation to help shelters save every healthy, treatable homeless pet.

No Kill Colorado is an 501c3 organization working to improve the Animal Shelter system in Colorado. Thousands of pets are killed each year in Colorado because of the lack of life saving programs that can be implemented without additional cost, and possibly adding revenue to the current funds provided to municipal shelters.

Money doesn't save lives - people do.  But money makes it a heck of a lot easier to reach people.

Promoting adoption and fostering is a major program we campaign for throughout the year.  We successfully have helped organizations get hundreds of animals home from our Home for the Holdiays cmapign every year.

We put a bounty on pets  going to foster or a permanent home.  rganizations that particpate receive $50 from us for every pet 3 or more years old, or at any age with special needs.

Pollinate minds and convey the importance of saving wild honey bees from extinction by integrating them into urban environments.

The mission to save honey bees from extinction–CEO Walter Schumacher’s professed goal–originated from a conversation in 2006. Walter, also known fondly as the “Bee-Czar”, was intrigued when a friend of his explained that the key to saving the world was to save the honey bee. From that point on, Walter took every step towards figuring out how to save bees from unwanted places without endangering their lives. 

In late 2006, Walter created the Central Texas Bee Rescue and personally opened his own property to the bees of local citizens seeking an eco-friendly solution to their unwanted honey bee infestation or swarm issues. Since Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) had not been diagnosed by that time, there were still many people baffled at why someone, such as Walter, would get in a bee suit in 110 index heat during the summer just to save some pesky wild bees. Yet, through working with wild bees, and beginning to understand the depth of their beauty, their intelligence, and their keystone role in our ecosystem, Walter developed an unbreakable bond with the honey bee. He even realized that the bee suits in the dead heat would kill him before bees did, so he eventually just stopped wearing one altogether! (Please note we do not advise that!).

Knowing the magnitude of the role that wild honey bees play in our eco-system, Walter was baffled by why traditional beekeepers continued to kill off unwanted infestations or swarms rather than to remove and relocate the bees. It was this line of thinking that led Walter to the realization that the key to saving the wild bees, was to integrate bees, and beekeeping into urban environments. This epiphany directed him to do even more about the inevitable extinction of one of the worlds most important pollinators and in 2012, The American Honey Bee Protection Agency (AHBPA) was formed. 

That same year, AHBPA was instrumental, working alongside Texas lawmakers, in passing an ordinance to provide for the relocation of wild or abandoned bees that do not threaten human or animal health or interfere with the normal use or enjoyment of public or private property. Additionally, in 2015, AHBPA worked diligently during the legislative session to help pass the statewide resolution making the western honey bee the state pollinator of Texas, an overdue honor, which AHBPA hopes will bring more awareness to the importance of bees in the state.

The American Honey Bee Protection Agency has continued the work of bee rescue and relocation, providing wild bees to residential and commercial clientele, pushing for ordinances and legislation that better protect the precious honey bee, and developing programs that integrate wild bees in urban contexts.
