A community-supported independent library & artist workshop of printed material, fiscally sponsored by Intersection for the Arts.

The Prelinger Library in San Francisco offers thousands of historical maps, zines, documents, books and other materials, all of which are available for artists to reference or reuse. Its collections serve activists, writers, musicians, composers, poets, novelists, journalists, and historians. The Library was established in 2004 and has served over ten thousand reserach visits. Its collections have supported the production of artists talks series, films, novels as well as open-ended explorations by people working across all media types. As a 100% community-supported project, the Library s free to pursue equity and justice, abolition and libration, and to serve the community as a trans- and queer-safe space and infoshop for survival and resistance. The Library puts hospitality first and offers sparkling water or tea to every visitor.

The collections also hold government-produced documents from eras when artists and writers were widely employed in their production, offering art and literature in unexpected places as well as roadmaps toward civil societies. With stacks materials ranging from eighteenth century documents to works produced this week, the room serves as a slip in spacetime within which a couple hundred years of human experience and experiments can be browsed. Library hosts represent a range of subject-matter expertises including public transportation, radio science, zine making, natural history, library science, book arts, moving image history and production, and nonfiction writing.

The SETI Institute is a non-profit dedicated to the exploration and understanding of life on Earth and beyond. Our researchers are working to understand humanity's beginnings and our place among the stars. 

The SETI Institute runs the Allen Telescope Array, the first observatory built from the ground up to search for signals from technologically advanced societies in nearby star systems. Since federal funding for SETI research like this is limited, our donors have carried the torch for humanity in searcing the universe for other intelligent species. 

But life comes in all sizes, and just because there aren't other intelligent species in our solar system, doesn't mean there isn't microbial life on Mars or under the ice of Europa. Our scientists study extreme environments and the microbes that inhabit them so we are better prepared to search for life on planetary bodies throughout the galaxy. For example, the SETI Institute has a long history of supporting Mars exploration, including the search for biosignatures and the understanding of the planet's past climate. 

And research is only a part of what we do. We are also committed to educating the next generation of SETI scientists and public programming on science topics critical to all of humanity.

The Deep Space Exploration Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to space science  education for underserved communities. 

The Deep Space Exploration Society is a Colorado-based nonprofit organization and charity dedicated to practical astronomy and space science education for students, the general public, and society members.

Our major project is restoring and operating a 60-foot dish antenna for radio astronomy and amateur radio experimenting.  The site is located in Kiowa County, Colorado. Since 2009, our volunteer members have been working hard to restore and modernize the antenna and its support facilities.  Additionally, we support radio astronomy and amateur radio projects using smaller antennas.  We also support educational outreach and support the local community by fund raising at our annual Open House.

The SpaceKind Foundation

Our mission is to reduce severe suffering, taking all sentient beings into account.

The Center for Reducing Suffering (CRS) is a research center that works to create a future with less suffering, with a focus on reducing the most intense suffering.

We believe suffering matters equally regardless of who experiences it, which implies that we should consider the suffering of all sentient beings in our efforts. This includes wild animals, and possibly also invertebrates or even artificial beings.

We also believe suffering matters equally regardless of when it is experienced. Consequently, since we think the long-term future contains the vast majority of sentient beings in expectation, our focus is primarily on reducing suffering in the long-term future.

Our main priority with respect to the long-term future is to avoid outcomes with astronomical amounts of intense suffering (i.e. to reduce s-risks). This is because we aim to reduce suffering as much as we can in expectation.

EarthLight is an Idea – and a Cause
 
The beautiful shot of the “little blue marble” from the Apollo 8 missions shifted our perspective of Earth and humanity and enabled us to appreciate our tiny home’s delicacy and fragility. The term “spaceship Earth” is more than a metaphor or analogy to us. Just as our MotherWorld exists in a bubble of life she created, as we begin to launch our smaller “bubbles” out into the cosmos, they offer tiny analogs for most of the lessons we need to learn down here. The spaceships, stations, and communities we will build in space have much to teach us.

For example, in space, if we mistreat our life support systems, we die. If we do not use everything we have carefully, recycle and reuse all we can, we die. If we do not work as one crew, with honor, respect, and trust in each other as if we are one family, we die.

Think of it this way – few people are more aware of the environment than a person floating above a window with the Earth below, re-breathing her own air, and re-drinking her own recycled urine.

Or like this – there is no tighter “family” of people who must utterly trust and respect each other in both calm and crisis, than those locked in a tiny bubble of life in which all depend on one another to survive.

In many ways, EarthLight represents the environmental movement of space.


Yet, we go beyond being “pro-environment” as our goal is not just to save the MotherWorld, but to expand her life into the Solar System and Universe.

For example, we endorse the goal of getting the planet to net-zero carbon emissions and generally reducing the toxicity and destruction of many human interactions with our biosphere. We also believe that we can use space not just to study the dangers facing Earth but to help save her.

First, we have to “clean up” our own act. As much as it can teach us, in its early days, the space community and industry have reflected our culture’s general ignorance and disdain for our role as part of Earth’s ecosystem. Just as in society, it has been dominated by a primitive “use it and throw it away” mentality. Worse, it has often been true that the incentives and policies of the governments that have dominated space activities encouraged maximum waste, built-in obsolescence, and rewards for short-term planning and design.

This is the first part of EarthLight’s task. EarthLight is working to change this old conversation and mindset within the space community and industry. Thus, at times, we will highlight and work to change these old space ways of thinking, and programs, projects, and policies that continue ways that need to be left behind.

The primary focus of STEM Harvest is kids’ STEM education and especially technologies such as programming, 3D printing, prototyping, electronics, or a “fusion” of those skills. Upon completion, STEM Harvest will be roughly 5,000 square feet of space to teach kids about technology using project-based approaches to learn those core components. STEM Harvest is an effort to make technology accessible to every child regardless of background, gender, or current skill-level. Aside from learning technology-related skills, through projects the kids will learn other valuable skills such as critical thinking, persistence, and troubleshooting. Our hope is to secure grants, donors, and corporate sponsorships to ensure most, if not all, activities are free for all kids.

LunARC is building the Lunar University, the first off-world learning entity, where young people globally co-create the systems humanity needs to thrive on Earth and beyond. Through design labs and knowledge infrastructure, we put youth in the driver's seat, not as spectators, but as architects of the futures they'll inherit. We're proving that imagination can function as infrastructure.

The World of Wonders Science Museum offers hands-on, science-based exhibits and programs to stimulate discovery for all ages.

The mission of the World of Wonders Science Museum is to offer hands-on, science-based exhibits and programs to stimulate discovery for all ages. The WOW is accomplishing this goal by running an affordable museum with over 70 hands-on science exhibits and multiple science programs for local students. Our two most popular programs, WOW on Wheels and Field Study Trips have been a huge success and bring fun, hands-on science experiences to thousands of local students each year. Since reopening after our temporary closure in 2020, our programs have achieved more success than ever before. Both programs have grown significantly. During the 2022-2023 school year, we provided science experiences to over 24,000 students in California's Central Valley through our programs. 

The WOW has an extremely exciting future ahead of it. We are currently working on a large expansion into a new space across the street from the WOW’s current location. This new expansion will include increased museum floor space, an outdoor plaza, space for students to safely eat lunches after field trips, multiple new laboratory classrooms, and more! Our goal is to create a science center that provides engaging, hands-on STEAM experiences to people throughout the Central Valley and attracts tourists to Lodi. STEMpump was founded in September 2019 by a group of high schoolers as a series of in-person camps that aimed to level the playing field of STEAM among students. We're 100% student-led. Like completely student-led. From technology to content, student-driven innovation is at our core. We're taking the ways we learned, and giving everyone access.

The fact is, educational resources and content on STEAM topics are hard to come by. Some resources are locked behind paywalls. Some resources are outdated and haven't been updated in forever. Some resources are difficult and confusing. Not everyone has the resources or opportunities to learn or discover this content.

Our mission is to provide the world with free education and give students a platform to create and share. Break all the barriers and give students what they want. We are in a fortunate position to be able to help and support thousands of students around the world, and we hope to continue that.

Healthspan Action Coalition's purpose is to initiate a global societal movement supporting healthy aging. Building upon a foundation of trusted and matured connections and networks, the movement is being deployed across a wide spectrum of collaborative efforts promoting favorable policy and funding for scientific research, innovations and patient engagement. 

The Coalition’s priorities include:

- Increasing government funding for meritorious healthspan research, funding and filling clinical trials.
- Prioritizing an accelerated regulatory process for healthspan treatments and cures, enacting evidence-based regulations that keep pace with innovation.
- Advancing public and private sector payment policies supporting patient access to regenerative medicine and other advanced therapies aimed at extending the healthspan.
- Lessening preclinical animal testing and substituting, where feasible, support for and deployment of advanced technologies, including precision medicine, organ-on-a-chip, AI, organoids and tissue-engineering.
- Addressing the progress, implications and global adoption of updated classifications declaring aging is a disease-related condition.
- Driving workforce development initiatives, including within technical schools and community colleges, to build capacity and develop a skilled workforce for this highly technical field.
- Delivering an increased healthspan to all populations and communities by creating cross-sector collaborations and tools aimed at addressing disparities in the drivers of health and structural flaws in the health system.  All people should have the fair and just opportunity to achieve their full potential in every aspect of their health, longevity and well-being.

 Foundation for Inclusive Community Help (FICH), a community-led organization in Uganda, works with youth, women and families through education, training and providing opportunities. FICH interventions are focused on schools and rural communities. Our priorities are in education for children affected by conflict and disadvantaged livelihoods with a strong focus on entrepreneurship development, women empowerment and community development. We target the age group 6 to 35 years but address concerns of children in the care of young mothers and child headed households. Activities within these target groups are carried out within school and out of school settings and through groups and associations in the communities. We collaborate closely with target communities through organized groups and associations, cultural and religious leaders; local, national and international NGOs; local government structures, civil servants and political leaders at the district and sub county. FICH is guided by a vision to see, a generation of healthy, innovative, productive and self-reliant youth, women and families; and mission to transform youth, women and families through education, training and opportunities in a thriving community. Where we are today: We have worked with development partners to implement programs in the areas of knowledge management and advocacy, environmental management, entrepreneurship, social accountability and civic engagement and social inclusion in communities through donor support.
