We are a social science think tank researching long-term social and technological change, particularly moral circle expansion. We make our research results public and free, so anyone can use them to make more impactful decisions with their advocacy, careers, donations, and other resources.

We are founded on the principle of effective altruism, meaning we strive to help others as much as possible using the best evidence available. We envision a society in which the interests of all sentient beings are fully considered, regardless of their sex, race, species, substrate, location, or any other characteristic apart from their sentience. We see this expansion as an important means to prevent suffering now and in the far future.

Our mission is to conduct interdisciplinary research on moral circle expansion and to share that research with individuals and institutions making the world a better place. Two particularly important areas of expansion are farmed animals and artificial sentience.

Sentience Institute

A community-supported independent library & artist workshop of printed material, fiscally sponsored by Intersection for the Arts.

The Prelinger Library in San Francisco offers thousands of historical maps, zines, documents, books and other materials, all of which are available for artists to reference or reuse. Its collections serve activists, writers, musicians, composers, poets, novelists, journalists, and historians. The Library was established in 2004 and has served over ten thousand reserach visits. Its collections have supported the production of artists talks series, films, novels as well as open-ended explorations by people working across all media types. As a 100% community-supported project, the Library s free to pursue equity and justice, abolition and libration, and to serve the community as a trans- and queer-safe space and infoshop for survival and resistance. The Library puts hospitality first and offers sparkling water or tea to every visitor.

The collections also hold government-produced documents from eras when artists and writers were widely employed in their production, offering art and literature in unexpected places as well as roadmaps toward civil societies. With stacks materials ranging from eighteenth century documents to works produced this week, the room serves as a slip in spacetime within which a couple hundred years of human experience and experiments can be browsed. Library hosts represent a range of subject-matter expertises including public transportation, radio science, zine making, natural history, library science, book arts, moving image history and production, and nonfiction writing.

From microbes to alien intelligence, the SETI Institute is the only organization dedicated to the search for life beyond Earth.

Have you ever looked at the stars and wondered if humans are alone in the universe?

The SETI Institute is a non-profit dedicated to the exploration and understanding of life on Earth and beyond. Our researchers are working to understand humanity's beginnings and our place among the stars. 

The SETI Institute runs the Allen Telescope Array, the first observatory built from the ground up to search for signals from technologically advanced societies in nearby star systems. Since federal funding for SETI research like this is limited, our donors have carried the torch for humanity in searcing the universe for other intelligent species. 

But life comes in all sizes, and just because there aren't other intelligent species in our solar system, doesn't mean there isn't microbial life on Mars or under the ice of Europa. Our scientists study extreme environments and the microbes that inhabit them so we are better prepared to search for life on planetary bodies throughout the galaxy. For example, the SETI Institute has a long history of supporting Mars exploration, including the search for biosignatures and the understanding of the planet's past climate. 

And research is only a part of what we do. We are also committed to educating the next generation of SETI scientists and public programming on science topics critical to all of humanity.

The Deep Space Exploration Society is a Colorado-based nonprofit organization and charity dedicated to practical astronomy and space science education for students, the general public, and society members.

Our major project is restoring and operating a 60-foot dish antenna for radio astronomy and amateur radio experimenting.  The site is located in Kiowa County, Colorado. The SpaceKind Foundation

Our mission is to reduce severe suffering, taking all sentient beings into account.

The Center for Reducing Suffering (CRS) is a research center that works to create a future with less suffering, with a focus on reducing the most intense suffering.

We believe suffering matters equally regardless of who experiences it, which implies that we should consider the suffering of all sentient beings in our efforts. This includes wild animals, and possibly also invertebrates or even artificial beings.

We also believe suffering matters equally regardless of when it is experienced. Consequently, since we think the long-term future contains the vast majority of sentient beings in expectation, our focus is primarily on reducing suffering in the long-term future.

Our main priority with respect to the long-term future is to avoid outcomes with astronomical amounts of intense suffering (i.e. to reduce s-risks). This is because we aim to reduce suffering as much as we can in expectation.

EarthLight is an Idea – and a Cause
 
The beautiful shot of the “little blue marble” from the Apollo 8 missions shifted our perspective of Earth and humanity and enabled us to appreciate our tiny home’s delicacy and fragility. The term “spaceship Earth” is more than a metaphor or analogy to us. Just as our MotherWorld exists in a bubble of life she created, as we begin to launch our smaller “bubbles” out into the cosmos, they offer tiny analogs for most of the lessons we need to learn down here. The spaceships, stations, and communities we will build in space have much to teach us.

For example, in space, if we mistreat our life support systems, we die. If we do not use everything we have carefully, recycle and reuse all we can, we die. If we do not work as one crew, with honor, respect, and trust in each other as if we are one family, we die.

Think of it this way – few people are more aware of the environment than a person floating above a window with the Earth below, re-breathing her own air, and re-drinking her own recycled urine.

Or like this – there is no tighter “family” of people who must utterly trust and respect each other in both calm and crisis, than those locked in a tiny bubble of life in which all depend on one another to survive.

In many ways, EarthLight represents the environmental movement of space.


Yet, we go beyond being “pro-environment” as our goal is not just to save the MotherWorld, but to expand her life into the Solar System and Universe.

For example, we endorse the goal of getting the planet to net-zero carbon emissions and generally reducing the toxicity and destruction of many human interactions with our biosphere. We also believe that we can use space not just to study the dangers facing Earth but to help save her.

First, we have to “clean up” our own act. As much as it can teach us, in its early days, the space community and industry have reflected our culture’s general ignorance and disdain for our role as part of Earth’s ecosystem. Just as in society, it has been dominated by a primitive “use it and throw it away” mentality. Worse, it has often been true that the incentives and policies of the governments that have dominated space activities encouraged maximum waste, built-in obsolescence, and rewards for short-term planning and design.

This is the first part of EarthLight’s task. EarthLight is working to change this old conversation and mindset within the space community and industry. Thus, at times, we will highlight and work to change these old space ways of thinking, and programs, projects, and policies that continue ways that need to be left behind.

The World of Wonders Science Museum offers hands-on, science-based exhibits and programs to stimulate discovery for all ages.

The mission of the World of Wonders Science Museum is to offer hands-on, science-based exhibits and programs to stimulate discovery for all ages. The WOW is accomplishing this goal by running an affordable museum with over 70 hands-on science exhibits and multiple science programs for local students. Our two most popular programs, WOW on Wheels and Field Study Trips have been a huge success and bring fun, hands-on science experiences to thousands of local students each year. Since reopening after our temporary closure in 2020, our programs have achieved more success than ever before. Both programs have grown significantly. During the 2022-2023 school year, we provided science experiences to over 24,000 students in California's Central Valley through our programs. 

The WOW has an extremely exciting future ahead of it. We are currently working on a large expansion into a new space across the street from the WOW’s current location. This new expansion will include increased museum floor space, an outdoor plaza, space for students to safely eat lunches after field trips, multiple new laboratory classrooms, and more! Our goal is to create a science center that provides engaging, hands-on STEAM experiences to people throughout the Central Valley and attracts tourists to Lodi. **Vikram A Sarabhai Community Science Centre** ([VASCSC](https://vascsc.org/)) is a pioneering institution dedicated to promoting scientific temper, experiential learning, and innovation among children, youth, teachers, and the general public. Established in 1966 by the visionary scientist, Dr Vikram A Sarabhai, the Centre was created to make science accessible, engaging, and relevant to everyday life, long before experiential STEM education became a global priority.

Over nearly six decades, VASCSC has evolved into a dynamic hub for science communication, STEM education, innovation, and community engagement. Rooted in Dr Sarabhai’s belief that “science must reach the masses”, the Centre has consistently designed programmes that spark curiosity, develop problem-solving skills, and nurture a lifelong love for science.

**History & Legacy:** Founded during India's formative years of scientific growth, VASCSC played a critical role in shaping informal science education in the country. As one of the earliest community science centres in India, it nurtured experimentation, model-making, inquiry, and open-ended exploration at a time when traditional rote-based learning dominated classrooms. The Centre continues to uphold this legacy, blending tradition with modern STEM innovations.

**Objectives:** The objectives of VASCSC are - 

a)	To promote among students, teachers and the public:

- an understanding of fundamental concepts involved in Science and STEM Education;
- the acquisition of scientific knowledge and insights as far as possible by the process of inquiry through experiment, audio-visual media, and other means;
- the ability to solve problems;

b)	To stimulate interest in the principles of Science and Scientific method among students of elementary and secondary schools as well as colleges by giving them the necessary encouragement and exposure;

c)	To be concerned with the role of education and ways of improving science education, in relation to the individual and the community as a whole;

d)	To help make clear the social implications of science and technology.

**Core Activities & Programmes:** VASCSC offers a wide spectrum of innovative programmes, including:

- ***STEM Hands-on Workshops:*** Regular programmes in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, astronomy, model rocketry, and emerging technologies such as robotics, electronics, 3D technology, AI/ML basics, and environmental science.
- ***Teacher Training & Capacity Building:*** Comprehensive training programmes to strengthen STEM experiential learning, equip teachers with innovative tools, and integrate NEP 2020 recommendations.

- **E-STEM for Climate Change Education:** STEM for Environment and Climate Change workshops for students in Gujarat.
- **STEM for Environment:** Innovative STEM Hands-on Workshops for Environment Education for Students in Schools and Colleges.
- **STEM for Equity:** STEM workshops in schools serving socio-economically disadvantaged groups (intellectually challenged, underprivileged, minority, differently abled, rural and tribal).
- **STEM for Girls:** STEM workshops focusing on emerging technologies for schools in and around Ahmedabad, catering to underprivileged girl students.
- **Joy of Science - Mobile Science Lab and Exploratory:** To reach out to underprivileged children, especially those from aspirational districts in Gujarat, providing them with hands-on lab experience in their schools.

**Beneficiaries Engaged:** Each year, VASCSC reaches lakhs of students, teachers, parents, and community members through direct and indirect interventions. Its programmes specifically focus on schools (govt, govt-aided, trust-run) serving underprivileged students, and girls, ensuring equitable access to quality STEM education.

**Future Plans:** VASCSC is expanding its mission through initiatives that will shape the next decade of STEM education:

- Scaling Emerging Technologies programmes to equip girls and marginalized learners with hands-on exposure to AI, ML, robotics, drone technology, and other future-ready domains.
- STEM Fellowships for young science and engineering graduates, especially for women to nurture future STEM leaders and help bridge gender gaps in the field.
- Setting up Climate Action Lab, a dedicated space where students can investigate environmental challenges, experiment with ideas, and design practical solutions for climate resilience.
- Strengthening collaborations with global and national partners to increase outreach.

Vikram A Sarabhai Community Science Centre

Building a resilient space sector to support climate and ocean resilience in the Maldives.

The MSCHIF Resilience Fund supports the Maldives Space Research Organisation (MSRO) in building a **resilient national space sector** that directly underpins climate and ocean resilience.

For a low-lying island nation like the Maldives, space-based capabilities are not abstract or aspirational — they are essential infrastructure. Satellite data and space-enabled systems are critical for monitoring ocean health, tracking climate risks, supporting disaster preparedness, and enabling transparent, evidence-based decision making.

Through this fund, MSRO is developing the foundational space-sector capabilities required to support:

- national ocean and climate monitoring
- disaster risk reduction and early warning
- climate reporting and transparency
- public access to trustworthy environmental information

In May 2026, MSRO will launch a publicly accessible national ocean and climate data platform powered by space-based observations. This platform is designed to be open, verifiable, and accountable — demonstrating how a small island nation can build space-sector capacity in service of real-world climate resilience.

Contributions to the MSCHIF Resilience Fund directly support:

McKinney Amateur Radio Club (MARC) volunteers provide communications for public and emergency services as needed in North Texas. 

McKinney Amateur Radio Club (MARC) has no payroll and are a voluntary group of hundreds of active licensed ham radio operators in the North Texas area.  Membership is diverse group of men, women, veterans, civilians from all demographics. Age range from middle schoolers to seniors. Members may be home bound, have mobility issues, be blind and still participate. 

MARC maintains UHF/VHF APRS and digital repeaters and backup repeaters on several towers in Collin County TX which it installs, maintains and insures and has HF equipment for communications covering greater distances. 

MARC is a designated ARRL Special Service Club for our training, education and service to the community. As a very welcoming organization monthly meetings are open as well as weekly breakfast where new members or those considering getting involved can come to get questions answered on their home station designs, car installs, share what they're working on or just enjoy the company.

Our organization works with C.E.R.T Community Emergency Response Team and A.R.E.S Amateur Radio Emergency Service North Texas Section staying ready with radio traffic nets and procedural training to deploy when called upon to provide temporary emergency  communications support.  Many MARC volunteers are trained Sky Warn spotters for the National Weather Service. 

Monthly meetings include a presentation of interest such as the Solar Cycle to understand signal propagation or lack of resulting from coronal mass flairs (CMF).  Weather balloon launches, packet weight, communications and retrieval. Antenna tuning. Exploring homebrew antennas builds and frequency match.   

Weekly 'nets' are done to practice procedures and test equipment. Events are held outdoors to test setup and deployment running on battery power only.  

Educational classes are held on antenna building, testing, experimentation and electronics builds, soldering and other useful skills. Radio science and experimentation is encouraged and supported. Often the public is invited to attend classes when resources are available and an FCC issued license is not required, such as our Electronics 101 or basic soldering. With multiple modes of radio communications available such as Morse code, digital, voice, WinLink and satellite communications, opportunities for continued education continues to grow.

MARC volunteers support the local annual Smiles charity event, McKinney Octoberfest the Plano balloon festival. Holiday at the Heard Museum. Bike and foot races in the area and other events where assistance is needed.  Some volunteers have assisted their neighborhoods with GMRS communications nets and training so they have access to listen to local ham radio weather nets and communicate with their neighbors via GMRS should cell towers suffer failure.

MARC members have deployed to assist after hurricanes, tornados, floods, fires, earthquakes, water main breaks, and even for debris recovery from the space shuttle Columbia disaster on re-entry and are a valuable resource for public assistance.

McKinney Amateur Radio Club offers a small scholarship to a student at  the Dallas Regional Science and Engineering Fair (DRSEF) who's research is related to or may benefit radio communications. Additionally, our Youth fund supports gifting a radio to any member under 18 who passes their FCC license examination.  

Members may participate in world wide events such as Parks on the Air (POTA) and Field day and other contests to continually improve their skills in contacting and in deploying remotely. For operators who are homebound, or unable to participate outside, they may be 'hunters' and are a vital part of the success.  Deploying in a public environment requires consideration of the wildlife, and others there to enjoy nature and 'leave no trace' is practiced. It's been so successful that we now have SOTA- Summits on the Air, IOTA- Islands on the Air. Many members are seeing beautiful parks they would not have enjoyed otherwise. 

Transmitter tracking, known as 'Fox Hunting' is an activity where participants use radio direction finding techniques to locate hidden transmitters, referred to as 'foxes'.  This combines outdoor adventure with technical skills and some MARC members practice this weekly.  This is also available to anyone.  You do not have to have an FCC license to listen and track.  It's proven a fun activity to introduce youth to radio science.  

MARC has approval from the city of Fairview TX to add equipment to one of their water towers. Included is a requested microwave link to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth to aid in coverage.  This will greatly increase our ability to serve the community and surrounding area.

The Coalition’s priorities include:

- Increasing government funding for meritorious healthspan research, funding and filling clinical trials.
- Prioritizing an accelerated regulatory process for healthspan treatments and cures, enacting evidence-based regulations that keep pace with innovation.
- Advancing public and private sector payment policies supporting patient access to regenerative medicine and other advanced therapies aimed at extending the healthspan.
- Lessening preclinical animal testing and substituting, where feasible, support for and deployment of advanced technologies, including precision medicine, organ-on-a-chip, AI, organoids and tissue-engineering.
- Addressing the progress, implications and global adoption of updated classifications declaring aging is a disease-related condition.
- Driving workforce development initiatives, including within technical schools and community colleges, to build capacity and develop a skilled workforce for this highly technical field.
- Delivering an increased healthspan to all populations and communities by creating cross-sector collaborations and tools aimed at addressing disparities in the drivers of health and structural flaws in the health system.  All people should have the fair and just opportunity to achieve their full potential in every aspect of their health, longevity and well-being.

STEMpump is an educational organization dedicated to creating a global platform for contribution, collaboration, and expression. We aim to transform traditional education by offering a modernized teaching environment that gives students a medium to learn and contribute to our mission of free education for all. 

STEMpump was founded in September 2019 by a group of high schoolers as a series of in-person camps that aimed to level the playing field of STEAM among students. We're 100% student-led. Like completely student-led. From technology to content, student-driven innovation is at our core. We're taking the ways we learned, and giving everyone access.

The fact is, educational resources and content on STEAM topics are hard to come by. Some resources are locked behind paywalls. Some resources are outdated and haven't been updated in forever. Some resources are difficult and confusing. Not everyone has the resources or opportunities to learn or discover this content.

Our mission is to provide the world with free education and give students a platform to create and share. Break all the barriers and give students what they want. We are in a fortunate position to be able to help and support thousands of students around the world, and we hope to continue that.

 Foundation for Inclusive Community Help (FICH), a community-led organization in Uganda, works with youth, women and families through education, training and providing opportunities. FICH interventions are focused on schools and rural communities. Our priorities are in education for children affected by conflict and disadvantaged livelihoods with a strong focus on entrepreneurship development, women empowerment and community development. We target the age group 6 to 35 years but address concerns of children in the care of young mothers and child headed households. Activities within these target groups are carried out within school and out of school settings and through groups and associations in the communities. We collaborate closely with target communities through organized groups and associations, cultural and religious leaders; local, national and international NGOs; local government structures, civil servants and political leaders at the district and sub county. FICH is guided by a vision to see, a generation of healthy, innovative, productive and self-reliant youth, women and families; and mission to transform youth, women and families through education, training and opportunities in a thriving community.
