Hogar de Cristo USA is a 501c3 nonprofit focused on Chile's poverty. Based in Pompano Beach, FL received its status in 2007.

**Hogar de Cristo** welcomes the poorest of the poor with love and dignity to expand their opportunities for a better life in Chile. It enthusiastically supports the community in its responsibility to those discriminated against in our society. Inspired by the spirit of its founder, Alberto Hurtado SJ, it's a transparent, efficient, and effective organization that promotes a culture of respect, justice, and unity.

**For 80 years,** the **Hogar de Cristo Foundation has worked 24 hours a day, seven days a week, transforming vulnerable lives and integrating them into society.**

**Hogar de Cristo USA Inc.** started activities in the United States on June 6,  2006. Based in Pompano Beach, FL, the 501 (c) 3 foundation **promotes solidarity, advocates, and** **raises funds to help Hogar de Cristo finance programs in CHILE**.

**SOCIAL PROGRAMS INCLUDE Early Childhood Education, Homelessness, Education for Children and Youth Out of School, Older Adults, Mental disability, and First Response Emergency on Disasters.**

**Dion’s Dreamers was founded with the goal of providing mentorship and support to young men and women in underserved communities, as well as those in a place of mental, financial or physical hardship. What is Mutual Aid?

**Mutual aid is “cooperation for the sake of the common good.” It’s getting people to come together to meet each other’s needs, recognizing that as humans, our survival is dependent on one another.**

Mutual Aid is a practice and politics that emphasizes solidarity rather than charity. It means we recognize that our well-being, health and dignity are all bound up in each other. It means that we understand our survival depends on cooperation, not competition. In this particular moment, we see that our health is also dependent on other people’s health, and we can literally save each other’s lives. Rather than disengage and feel powerless, mutual aid allows us to plug in where we can make the most impact — locally.

Mutual aid IS...

- Getting people together in your community to provide material support to each other
- Building relationships with your neighbors based on trust and common interest
- Making decisions by consensus rather than relying on authority and hierarchy
- Sharing things rather than hoarding things
- Treating no one as disposable
- Providing all kinds of support, ranging from food prep to childcare to translation to emotional support, and recognizing the value of all of them
- A political education opportunity, where we build the relationships and analysis to understand why we are in the conditions that we're in
- Preparation for the next disaster (natural or economic). Next time around we'll already have relationships with each other and know who is vulnerable and needs support
- A great jumping off point for other kinds of organizing and movement work

Mutual aid IS NOT...

- Quid pro quo transactions
- Only for disasters or crises
- Charity or a way to "save" people
- A reason for a social safety net not to exist

DC Mutual Aid Network

The DC Mutual Aid Network (DCMA) is a grassroots community-led effort looking to take care of each other and keep our city as safe as possible.

- DCMA is a decentralized, community-led effort, so there is no single group that runs the network.
- There are autonomous groups for Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. Wards 7 & 8 are served together by one group.
- The DCMA Network is governed by the ward groups on topics of social media, website, fundraising, etc. The groups also share resources, best practices and offer referrals to other groups.

Ward 2 Efforts

Ward 2 Mutual Aid is part of the larger DCMA Network. Our concrete activities are:

- **Hotline** - Volunteers staff our warmline, where Ward 2 residents can call and request assistance.
- **Groceries** - We provide a grocery bag delivery to ~150 families that request it through our hotline or building captains. The bags include fresh produce, protein, dry goods, and requested household items.
- **Encampment Outreach** - We organize a supply drop to ~120 unhoused neighbors.
- **Building captains** - We organize with local residents to utilize their leadership and relational networks. Building captains check on neighbors, relay needs, and assist with food donations and distribution.
- **Back to school** - We organize with local parents to host a book and clothing swap.
- **Support for high risk/immuno-compromised individuals** - We have been partnering with local public housing buildings to drop off cleaning supplies, masks, and groceries.

Ward 2 Mutual Aid

Not for profit, founded as a 501C3 charity in 2006 in NYC. Providing Health, Education, and Empowerment opportunities.

Our cornerstone project was building East & Central Africa's 1st Public Children's Hospital.  Since opening in 2015, we have treated over 1.3 million kids. The impact does not end there, we have also constructed six public (free-to-attend) schools, a dairy project, a kids community house and more. We also run a vibrant Women's Empowerment Project focusing on agri-biz and domestic violence survivors.  Our latest major project is constructing the first children's cancer hospital in sub-Saharan Africa.

🍲 Gaza Soup Kitchen: Feeding 10,000 People Daily

As famine tightens its grip and markets collapse, Gaza Soup Kitchen is still boiling pots—feeding 1,000 people every day with dignity and determination.

We were the first soup kitchen in North Gaza to lean on local farmers and forage from nature to keep people alive. When others paused, we adapted. When supplies ran out, we improvised.

Today, we operate across 11 kitchens, run a community clinic, and deliver clean water and hot meals to hospitals—even in the hardest-hit zones.

This is survival work, done by people living through the very crisis they’re responding to.

Our mission is to comprehensively support underprivileged and vulnerable families by addressing their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs. Through our innovative platform and community-centric approach, we aim to foster a supportive ecosystem where collaboration leads to sustainable solutions for families in crisis.

 **Impact on Target Population**

Despite being in its early stages, The Shepherd's Tool has already developed a platform in order to make  a significant impact on its target population. Our core platform, TheShepherdsTool.com, serves as the centerpiece of our Community Connection Network (CCN). This dynamic ecosystem is designed to connect families with a broad range of services provided by government agencies, non-profits, faith-based organizations, and other entities, ensuring a holistic approach to support.

1. Holistic Support System: Our platform provides a comprehensive support system addressing immediate needs and long-term recovery. By integrating physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual support, we are laying the foundation for a well-rounded approach to helping families.
2. Enhanced Collaboration: We have established the initial framework for unprecedented collaboration among various organizations. By consolidating resources and services into one unified hub, we are creating a streamlined approach to support, reducing the likelihood of families falling through the cracks.

2. Formation of Key Partnerships: We have begun forming partnerships with various organizations, including non-profits, faith-based groups, and government agencies. These initial collaborations are essential for building a robust network of support services.
3. Development of Communication Tools: The integration of communication tools such as direct messaging and emergency bulletins has been completed. These tools are crucial for ensuring effective and timely communication between service providers and families in need.
4. Implementation of Case Management Features:  The initial deployment of case management features will enable us to track progress and manage cases effectively. This foundational capability is critical for providing personalized support and ensuring that no family is left behind.

 **Goals for Year (2025)**

1. Expand Platform Capabilities:  We aim to enhance TheShepherdsTool.com by integrating additional features, such as a comprehensive resource mapping tool and advanced analytics for tracking impact. These upgrades will improve the platform's functionality and efficiency, enabling us to better serve families and service providers.
2. Increase Organizational Partnerships:  Our goal is to significantly increase the number of registered organizations the coming year. By expanding our network, we will enhance the range and depth of services available through our platform, providing more comprehensive support for families in need.
3. Launch Pilot Programs: We plan to launch pilot programs focusing on specific areas of need, such as mental health support for children and emergency assistance for families facing eviction. These programs will address critical gaps and provide targeted assistance to vulnerable populations.
4. Strengthen Community Engagement: We aim to bolster our community engagement efforts by hosting workshops, training sessions, and forums. These initiatives will foster collaboration among organizations and increase awareness of The Shepherd's Tool’s mission and services.
5. Enhance Data Collection and Reporting: We are committed to improving our data collection and reporting processes to better measure our impact and outcomes. By implementing more robust data systems, we will gain valuable insights into our programs' effectiveness and make informed decisions to enhance our services.

TheShepherdsTool.com is a web-based application that enables to creation of an informational hub as well as a community connection network. To successfully launch the site online and make available to one metropolitan area, specifically Memphis, the following resources are needed:

1. Subscription to OpenAI API. 
2. System support to host and maintain the website.
3. Computer programmer to enhance the website.
4. Website support to train and assist organizations on how to leverage the website.
5. Marketing resources to let the community of social organizations know about the website.

All funds will primarily be dedicated to items 1-5.

Our World in Data publishes an open-access publication where users can understand the state of the world today, where we are making progress and where we are falling behind. Through interactive data visualizations we can see how the world has changed; by summarizing the scientific literature we can understand why. We cover everything from global poverty to natural disasters, education and health, democracy; we have over 13,000 charts across hundreds of topics.


Our World in Data is free, open-source and provided as a public good. It has millions of users every month, and is cited in research and media across the world every day. This allows millions of people to understand the large problems the world is facing, and how we can solve them.
