Pediatric malnutrition treatment – reimagined for scale.

Taimaka has reimagined pediatric malnutrition treatment to make it **more cost-effective and scalable**. We’ve developed a malnutrition treatment model that is:

So far, we’ve used our model to treat 6,000+ children out of existing government hospitals in northeastern Nigeria with world-class recovery rates of 95%+. FEM is an evidence-based nonprofit that aims to enable couples to make informed family planning decisions through radio campaigns 

Family Empowerment Media is a 501(c)(3) charity that develops and implements radio-based social and behavior change family planning campaigns, an evidence-based and
impactful intervention to reduce information gaps increase uptake in contraceptive use and thus reduce unintended pregnancies and contribute towards reduced maternal deaths, and and increase maternal and child health outcomes. 
FEM’s mission is to eliminate maternal deaths and other health burdens from unintended pregnancies. It works with local partners in Nigeria to produce and broadcast radio programming that shifts knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors around family planning. Its model is simple, evidence-backed, and transferable to many regions in Nigeria and other African countries.

FEM produces cost-effective, culturally sensitive and stakeholder-approved radio campaign material in the form of serial dramas and radio ads.

Currently, FEM is scaling its evidence-driven family planning radio campaigns across cost-effective intervention regions in Nigeria. The organization aims to reach 30 million listeners by 2027. FEM has recently formed three new implementing partnerships in Anambra, Ondo and Kogi State. They have developed relationships with key stakeholders in the regions, conducted listener research, and will soon be airing proof-of-concept campaigns. FEM is also reaching 5.5 million listeners through a nine-month long campaign in Kano State. 
In addition, in partnership with AIDE and a top AI research institute, they are building a solution to answer follow-up questions to their campaigns with an AI based WhatsApp service.

Since 2009, GiveDirectly has delivered more than $580 million in unconditional cash transfers to families in need. The Warsaw House Foundation's mission is to protect homeless and refugee  LGBTQ+ youth in Poland and provide them with the tools they need to live independently. Our inspiration was the  Ali Forney Center  (AFC)  n NYC, which is largest organization in the world offering support to homeless LGBTQ+ youth. We are honored that Carl Siciliano, the AFC's founder is on the board of the Warsaw House Foundation and works as an advisor. We place extra attention on HIV and STI education, support and prevention with the help of board member Dr. Joanna Kubica and the Smart Life Clinic in Warsaw.  After we took in our first LGBTQ+ youth to house on February 14th, 2023  we have been flooded with calls for housing and support from young people in need.  These are Polish Trans 18 year-olds from the Polish countryside in desperate need to escape their abusive and intolerant homes, young queer people with PTSD and untreated mental illness who need housing and support immediately, LGBTQ+ refugees from Ukraine and several young gay men from Iraq who suffered torture in their homeland, were detained and imprisoned at the Polish/Belarussian border for up to two years, and are now trying to build their lives in Poland.  We are also housing and supporting young LGBTQ+ people from Uganda and Egypt,  We are raising money to support the young people under our care, to house and feed them and pay for their medical needs and courses needed for them to start an independent life,  We are also raising money to hire staff (all of WH's work is now done by volunteers), to continue the renovation of our residential building and for short term emergency rentals.  We have a committed and professional team and a well planned strategy for both emergency and long term care.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!! The Boyce L. Ansley School is Atlanta and the Southeast’s only tuition-free private school for children and families who have or are currently experiencing homelessness. Our mission is to help break the cycle of generational poverty by providing collaborative family support and a complete academic program that empowers children and families to thrive beyond circumstance. Guided by a mighty mission, we help families move beyond circumstance and break the cycle of generational poverty by eliminating the financial hurdle to a world-class education. We ensure that every child, regardless of their housing situation, has access to high-quality in-class daily instruction with collaborative support for therapeutic services. Student services built into the curriculum include one-on-one and play therapy directed by an in-house licensed therapist, two daily meals (plus a third meal through our aftercare programs), and uniform distribution twice a year. Family services that are also a core part of our program include family case management, workforce development, family and group therapy, free school transportation for students, and emergency assistance (for hotels, eviction prevention, healthcare, dental care, and more).  We currently serve students in K-6th grade. Class sizes are small with 15 students and 2 teachers per grade. A low teacher-to-student ratio that creates a stronger community, increases student engagement, and provides individualized instruction and support. We also equip our students with needed emotional intelligence. At Ansley, we place equal emphasis on social/emotional functioning as we do academic gains. Over the last three years Ansley School has increased the percentage of students receiving therapy from 42% to 79%.

What is Mutual Aid?

**Mutual aid is “cooperation for the sake of the common good.” It’s getting people to come together to meet each other’s needs, recognizing that as humans, our survival is dependent on one another.**

Mutual Aid is a practice and politics that emphasizes solidarity rather than charity. It means we recognize that our well-being, health and dignity are all bound up in each other. It means that we understand our survival depends on cooperation, not competition. In this particular moment, we see that our health is also dependent on other people’s health, and we can literally save each other’s lives. Rather than disengage and feel powerless, mutual aid allows us to plug in where we can make the most impact — locally.

Mutual aid IS...

- Getting people together in your community to provide material support to each other
- Building relationships with your neighbors based on trust and common interest
- Making decisions by consensus rather than relying on authority and hierarchy
- Sharing things rather than hoarding things
- Treating no one as disposable
- Providing all kinds of support, ranging from food prep to childcare to translation to emotional support, and recognizing the value of all of them
- A political education opportunity, where we build the relationships and analysis to understand why we are in the conditions that we're in
- Preparation for the next disaster (natural or economic). Next time around we'll already have relationships with each other and know who is vulnerable and needs support
- A great jumping off point for other kinds of organizing and movement work

DC Mutual Aid Network

The DC Mutual Aid Network (DCMA) is a grassroots community-led effort looking to take care of each other and keep our city as safe as possible.

- DCMA is a decentralized, community-led effort, so there is no single group that runs the network.
- There are autonomous groups for Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. Wards 7 & 8 are served together by one group.
- The DCMA Network is governed by the ward groups on topics of social media, website, fundraising, etc. The groups also share resources, best practices and offer referrals to other groups.

Ward 2 Efforts

Ward 2 Mutual Aid is part of the larger DCMA Network. Our concrete activities are:

- **Hotline** - Volunteers staff our warmline, where Ward 2 residents can call and request assistance.
- **Groceries** - We provide a grocery bag delivery to ~150 families that request it through our hotline or building captains. The bags include fresh produce, protein, dry goods, and requested household items.
- **Encampment Outreach** - We organize a supply drop to ~120 unhoused neighbors.
- **Building captains** - We organize with local residents to utilize their leadership and relational networks. Building captains check on neighbors, relay needs, and assist with food donations and distribution.
- **Back to school** - We organize with local parents to host a book and clothing swap.
- **Support for high risk/immuno-compromised individuals** - We have been partnering with local public housing buildings to drop off cleaning supplies, masks, and groceries.

Ward 2 Mutual Aid

Giving immigrants the knowledge to navigate U.S. financial systems and build lasting wealth.

Most financial education fails immigrants because it doesn’t reflect their day-to-day reality. Our practical, accessible personal finance course helps immigrants break the cycle of living paycheck-to-paycheck and plan their financial futures.

**Vision:** We’re building a country where all of us, immigrants included, have the financial skills to plan for the future, fulfill our dreams, and achieve lasting peace of mind.

**Impact:** Our pilot program has already helped immigrants ranging from 25 to 60 years old build the foundational skills to manage their money. 100% of students have opened a brokerage or a high-yield savings account by the time they finish the course. In addition, students are learning to budget their fixed and variable expenses, plan for retirement, and build their credit in the U.S.

Saath founded in 1989 serves the informal sector through education, livelihood, health, & financial literacy and inclusion.  

Saath is a Public Charitable Trust, founded in 1989, with an aim to support those underserved. Saath in Hindi/Gujarati means ‘together, co-operation, or a collective support. The organization is dedicated to empowering the marginalized communities, by providing livelihood opportunities, access to health care, education, financial literacy and inclusion through varied interventions developed organically in a participatory manner. The goal is to build ownership from within the community to ensure sustainability and impactful transformations, especially for women and children.

**Vision:** Saath envisions inclusive and empowered communities and individuals.

**Mission:** To make human settlements equitable living environments where all residents and vulnerable people have access to health, education, essential infrastructure services and livelihood options, irrespective of their economic and social status.

**Approach:** Saath engages organizations, corporates and individuals from India and globally as partners and supporters. Saath initiated the Integrated Community Development Program, an undertaking that seeks to rejuvenate slums into vibrant neighbourhoods. Saath works with slum residents, children, women, youth, informal sector workers, and vulnerable people in urban and rural areas. It addresses multiple needs of the socio-economically vulnerable with one-stop solutions, through which slum residents have access to basic services for holistic growth.

**Saath’s Thematic areas:**

**Livelihood** - The livelihood programs at Saath focus on making individuals financially independent either by equipping them with vocational training (traditional and non-traditional) or supporting them through entrepreneurial support. Women have been at the core of this initiative. Till date Saath has actively supported **72,809** youth and women for vocational training. Out of which 5200 are successful entrepreneurs. 3,200 women have been trained in non-traditional livelihoods.

**Education** - Saath has supported almost **23,066** children through various educational initiatives.\*\*\*\* The three main strategies tailored to the specific needs of communities are:

**Balghar:** Launched in 2004 as pre-school spaces designed to provide a nurturing educational environment for the holistic development of children. Activities within these spaces concentrate on addressing a child's cognitive, socio-economic, physiological, psychological, and nutritional needs. Serving as demonstration spaces, Balghar complements government-run anganwadis (Pre-schools), catering to the same age group of children. The ultimate goal of the Balghar is to seek admission for the child into a mainstream school, to further her education.  

**Child-Friendly Spaces:** Is a vital initiative aimed at offering a secure environment for child laborers and the offspring of construction workers, addressing their comprehensive developmental requirements. Frequently left unsupervised due to the absence of parental care, these children are at risk of being compelled into child labor. 

**STEM Education:** Is dedicated to enhancing the quality of education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics through specially developed Centres, equipped with hands-on learning material, an essential need for children from marginalized communities, particularly girls, who often lack opportunities to pursue these subjects. The STEM experience also presents to them varied career opportunities which they can now seek out and explore. 

**Health –** Health has been an integral part of Saath’s working since its inception, strongly believing that health has an implication on every aspect of a person’s life. Till date Saath has supported **8,22,040** through various interventions, health awareness programs and referral linkages especially focusing on reproductive and child health, vaccination, immunization, Tuberculosis and malnourishment among the vulnerable communities.

**Livelihood:** The livelihood program focusses on making indiviuals financially independent either by equipping them with vocational training (traditional & non-traditional) or supporting them through entreprenurial support. Women have been at the core of this initiative. Till date Saath has actively supported 76,788 youth and women through vocational training. 8,832 have been supported through Microentrepreneurship (ME) interventions. 

**Integrated Area Development (IAD) -** The goal of IAD is bringing together & empowering communities to address issues affecting the quality of their life. The program includes extensive mapping, identification of problem areas and prioritizing them on the basis of severity and urgency. All done in a participatory manner to build ownership from with the community. Committees are then formed and empowered to take these issues to the local government for redressal. 25000 households have been supported through the IAD and more than 500 problems have been resolved. 

**Financial inclusion –** The program aims to build a habit of saving among the community members, no matter how small the amount be. The intervention started in Rajasthan in 2016 spread to Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat as well. Saath has till date supported over **30,000** beneficiaries through various financial inclusion interventions.

Background on the Food for Life Project: The distribution of sanctified plant-based meals has been and will continue to be an essential part of India’s Vedic culture of hospitality from which Food for Life was born.

The Food for Life Global office facilitates the expansion, coordination, and promotion of prasadam distribution throughout the world. The project started in 1974 after yoga students of Swami Prabhupada became inspired by his plea that “No one within a ten-mile radius of a temple should go hungry!”
Today Food for Life is active in over 60 countries. With volunteers serving up to 2,000,000 free plant-based meals daily to schools, as well as from mobile vans and to disaster areas.
FOOD FOR LIFE is now the largest food relief in the world, eclipsing even the United Nations World Food Programme. Food for Life volunteers come from all walks of life. Food for Life Global and its worldwide network of affiliates are non-sectarian and non-discriminating.

Founded in 2010, Dandelion Africa is a non-profit grass-roots organisation located in the Kenyan Rift Valley that seeks to improve the health and economic livelihoods of women and youth in marginalized areas. The organisation's vision is to contribute to opportunities for rural marginalized women, girls and youth to improve their health, economy and education through creating safe spaces for them to receive information and services that will improve their lives and alleviate poverty.  Dandelion Africa's governance structure consists of two boards: an advisory board that provides strategic direction and oversight, and a community board that directly represents the communities for which the organisation works. The community board, that comprise of youth, village elders, heads of schools and those living with HIV and disability, keeps the organisation grounded and responsive to the needs and priorities of the community. The day-to-day operations are managed by a secretariat that is headed by the Founder and Executive Director, Aszed Wendo.  Dandelion Africa's programmes are centered on four main principles, namely human rights, empowerment, knowledge and transparency.  Currently, Dandelion Africa runs four programs outlined below: - Women's Empowerment - Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) - Girls for Leaders, Boys for Change - Right(s) Way Forward, a community-based governance program that aims at empowering communities to access their rights to public resources and services.
