Several years ago, Autism Empowerment joined us as a keynote voice, sharing a message grounded in dignity, acceptance, and the unwavering belief that autistic lives are rich with value and possibility. That message didn’t end when the applause faded. It stayed with us, shaped us, and helped inform how we show up for our community every day.

Today, at the Spectrum & Development Community Center in rural Southwest Washington, Autism Empowerment’s magazines are a constant presence, available daily to families, self-advocates, and community members walking through our doors. They are picked up in moments of uncertainty, curiosity, relief, and hope. They are read in waiting areas, shared between parents, and quietly absorbed by individuals who are just beginning to understand their own neurodivergent identities.

There is something powerful about seeing trusted, affirming voices consistently represented in a physical space designed for belonging. Autism Empowerment’s work continues to offer clarity, validation, and connection, especially in rural communities where access to affirming resources can be limited.

Plastics For Change (PFC) is applying technology to create sustainable livelihoods for informal waste collectors while transitioning the industry towards a circular economy. Our fair trade certified sorting process and mobile platform provide urban waste collectors access to fair and consistent incomes. Our platform creates transparency and accountability from the base of the supply chain to the store shelf. This results in more efficient shared-value chains and higher quality recycled plastic. 

We help catalyse brands to replace the use of virgin plastic with ethically sourced recycled plastic, thereby immediately improving the social and environmental impact of their products.

This initiative is about catalysing the industry to transition away from virgin plastic while creating sustainable livelihoods for the urban poor.

The Africa Research Excellence Fund (AREF) was founded in 2015 to nurture, mentor, and support a community of post-doctoral health researchers across Africa to become research experts and leaders, capable of tackling African and global health challenges. Too many of Africa's best and brightest emerging health researchers are stifled by a lack of funding, skills training, and mentoring opportunities. They are forced to leave the continent in search of more lucrative jobs elsewhere, or abandon health research altogether. If Africa is to respond to its unique health challenges, it needs to invest in the highly talented pool of health researchers emerging across the continent. 

AREF's transformative programmes provide African researchers with the skills, mentors, and funding they need to succeed in the most vulnerable stage of their careers: 

Our **Academy Programmes** prepare African post-doctoral health researchers to compete for international research funding and lead their own research teams. These training workshops cover essential academic skills, such as grant writing, publishing, and leadership development. 

Our **Awards Programme** provides vital research funding through Research Development Fellowships and Seed Funds, enabling African post-doctoral health researchers to undertake placements at host institutions in Europe or Africa. During their placements, they build collaborative networks and acquire vital research skills to embed within their home institutions in Africa upon their return.

SORBA Orlando is the Orlando/Central Florida chapter of the Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association.

Founded in 2013, SORBA Orlando has grown to include eight distinct and fun trails in and around Orlando and its suburbs, with more trail miles on the way!  SORBA Orlando trails offer everything from family-friendly places to ride, endurance bike races and time trials, skills-building sections, and opportunities to give back to the community.

Founded in 2013, **Simple Education Foundation (SEF)** is dedicated to transforming education in India’s government schools by empowering teachers to create meaningful and impactful learning experiences. Our work began with **Prayog Shala**, a community learning center in Delhi, and has since expanded across multiple states, impacting over 160,000 teachers and students.

**Our Programs and Journey**

In 2016, SEF took a significant step by partnering with the state government of Jammu & Kashmir to launch a teacher training program for over 85,000 teachers. This success marked a turning point, allowing us to dive deeper into our mission of teacher development and educational transformation.

That same year, we started working in Uttarakhand, where we established a community learning center in the village of Gular. This program has since evolved into several initiatives, including the Sashak Prathamik program, which today works with five primary schools in the Tehri Garhwal region. We also collaborate with the Narendra Nagar block to develop and facilitate their mentor teacher coaching and training programs.

In 2017, we launched our Centers of Excellence program in Delhi, working with seven government primary schools. Today, we continue to partner with three of these schools, focusing on enhancing learning outcomes and teacher effectiveness.

By 2021, SEF had extended its partnership with the Delhi government and SCERT to design and implement a competency-based teacher training program aimed at strengthening teacher competencies and the mentor teacher program across the state.

This year, we expanded our work to include collaborations with the state governments of Uttarakhand and Punjab. Our efforts focus on delivering comprehensive teacher development programs that include both training and coaching, developed in close partnership with block and district resource officials.

Our newest initiative, Teachers for Tomorrow (formerly Future Teacher Program), launched in 2022, is designed to equip aspiring teachers with the skills and mindset necessary to become exceptional educators. Under this program, we aim to ensure that these future educators are fully prepared to lead classrooms that inspire and nurture the next generation.

**Our Achievements**

•	Impacted more than 160,000 teachers across Delhi, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir.

•	Established eight government partnership schools, setting new standards for quality education.

•	Team members and individuals associated with SEF have been selected as fellows with prestigious global organizations such as Acumen, the Dalai Lama Program, WISE Qatar, Teach for All, and more.

•	SEF has participated in and presented at national and international conferences, contributing to thought leadership in the field of education through research papers and findings.

•	Recognized as a “Great Place to Work” for three consecutive years.

**Future Plans**

Looking ahead, SEF is focused on scaling our impact across multiple states and programs. Currently, under the Centers of Excellence program within our Government Partner School Program, we work with eight schools in Uttarakhand and Delhi. Our State In-Service Teacher Training Programs span Delhi, Punjab, and Uttarakhand, and in 2024, we aim to cumulatively impact over 1.5 lakh teachers through workshops, coaching programs, training sessions, and the provision of tools and resources.

Through our Teachers for Tomorrow program, which focuses on pre-service teacher education, we will work with over 2,000 aspiring teachers across several institutes in Delhi. This year, we also plan to pilot innovative programs that will help define and refine our strategy for developing the teachers of the future.

Our journey has been bolstered by the support of several esteemed organizations, including the Wipro Foundation, InfoEdge, Max India Foundation, Anu Agha and Meher Padamji Family Office, the Bikchandani Family Office, Padmini, V&A, Forest Essentials, Boston Consulting Group, and others. We have also built strong partnerships with government agencies across Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi, Uttarakhand, and Punjab.

Disparities in access to resources and opportunities is a complex issue in Sub-Saharan Africa. This region faces various challenges, including historical inequalities, economic disparities, and social inequalities in several ways such economic, gender, education, disability and more. 
Addressing these issues requires a multifaceted approach, including advocacy for policy changes, capacity building, improved infrastructure, social awareness, and efforts to promote equity, inclusivity, and diversity. In collaboration with various partners, local governments, and communities play crucial roles in combating discrimination and promoting equal access to resources and opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Our Founder and Executive Director has a deep and broad understanding of the community problems we are resolving. Marcel lived in Dzaleka refugee camp Malawi for 11 years after fleeing insecurity from the Eastern of DRC his home country. Being a refugee, he knows well what it means. In DRC Marcel knows well how better life before the conflicts; this gives us have and clear understanding of the context of the current humanitarian crisis but also the ability to conceive adapted and long-lasting solutions. We do this work because of having experienced the same life in the same communities but also, we are passionate about it, brief, serving with compassion is our passion. Being part of these communities, their challenges are our challenges, we are conscious that if we do not do anything no one will do it.

SERVICES

Our current intervention has its greater attention on Education, Economic empowerment and livelihood, Food Security, and water and Sanitation (Wash).

A. EDUCATION

1. Primary and secondary school 

 Since 2015 we are running a school that provides access to primary school to over 1000 forcibly displaced children (refugee and asylum seekers) at Dzaleka refugee camp Malawi. Every year we have 40 students’ refugees and Malawians under our Secondary School Sponsorship program, 90% are girls. 

2. Take the Lead

Fountain Of Hope Africa in collaboration with Mexoxo and the eCornell University to promote education for the most disadvantaged.
Through this collaboration we provide access to skills-based instruction to refugees, asylum seekers and other underserved people especially women. Program participants complete online courses delivered through eCornell in leadership, entrepreneurship, time management, and career exploration to prepare for entrepreneurship, employment, and community involvement.
The content is designed for pairing with other social and educational programming and provides participants with a foundation for launching careers that earn a living income and promote sustainable self-sufficiency.                                                                           

3. School recovery program 

In the Eastern of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), we are running a School Recovery Program in Bukavu and the surrounding territories, that is currently serving over 500 children. This Accelerated Learning Programs provides education opportunities to out-of-school minors survivors of armed conflicts and poverty who are between the age of 12 and 17. The program compresses the equivalent of the six-year primary program into three years, allowing students to re- enter the formal education system at the secondary level or qualify for vocational training. To promote inclusion in education, this program prioritizes teen mothers due to their higher level of vulnerability due to stigma and exclusion from education while boys are all accepted even when after impregnating girls.

4. Higher education sponsorship

This program is designed to Empower girls Enhance women education in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It creates high education opportunities for marginalized girl by sponsoring their College/University learning cycle. The program supports the beneficiaries with tuition fees and learning materials and it gives a special consideration to those survivors of SGBVs. This program sponsors a number of marginalized girls in the Eastern of the DRC every year since 2021. 

B. ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT AND POVERTY ALLEVIATION

Our Economic Empowerment and poverty alleviation program aims to build a strong and long-lasting self-reliance among individuals, families, and communities. We provide business literacy to women and youth, access to capital, mentorship, and coaching; 93% of the beneficiaries supported during the last 5 years were able to sustain and grow they business, and 78% were able to employ at least one more person from their communities. I addition to this we provide vocational skills to women to boost entrepreneurship and maximize the utilization of their potentials for their economic independence. For COVID-19 response 1002 vulnerable households benefited from our unconditional social cash transfer that allowed them to overcome the socio-economic effects of the global pandemic.

C. FOOD SECURITY
Using ecology friendly methodologies, we are supporting smallholder farmers with agriculture technics through training, mentoring, and coaching, and help them access agriculture inputs.  These efforts are revitalizing farmland, improving food security, rural livelihood, and economic recovery. We mobilized the communities in cooperatives and give them access hybrid seeds and trained them in organic fertilizer production. This program is extended to a food relief Aid for in need communities that are vulnerable to food insecurity, due to armed conflicts, climate and or economic shocks.

D. WATER AND SANITATION (WASH)

Due to the water crisis and the congestion of Dzaleka refugee supply, we deliver potable water to over 1000 refugee households and 9 community schools in the camp daily on daily basis.
In the Eastern of the Democratic Republic of Congo we are actively engaged in easing the access to clean water and sanitation facilities in rural areas, schools and health facilities; according to UNICEF over 30 million people in DRC have no access to clean water and nearly 30% do not have access to sanitation facilities. This program is extended to a Fairfood Relief Aid for in need communities that are vulnerable to food insecurity, due to armed conflicts, climate and or economic shocks. FOH intention is to support families that are food insecure, especially during the lean months where the cost of food and the scarcity of food increases significantly in Malawi and the Eastern of DRC.

E. FUTURE PLANNED ACTIVITIES

We are not limited to advocacy for diversity and inclusion in the education system in the Democratic Republic of Congo where teen mothers face stigma and exclusion from the formal education regardless of the circumstances of their pregnancies while boys are fully accepted even when they have kids; same for other children who might appear physically different. 
We are also planning to promote digital inclusion in the education system in the Democratic Republic of Congo where the majority of students from primary to high school level without access to digital resources. 
For food security we are planning to include advocacy for land access and ownership in rural areas where traditionally women do not own land while they constitute over 60% of the agriculture labor. Another planned component for our school recovery program is to rescue children who are victims of child labor and exploitation in mining. 
At Dzaleka refugee camp Malawi where less than 40% of the school aged children have access to education, our projection is to double the number of refugee children who are accessing primary and secondary school by expanding our school with new classrooms, furniture and personnel by the end of 2024. In Bukavu DRC building a modern vocational training center in order to empower the thousand of young girls and boys victims of armed conflicts and who missed the opportunity to access formal education du to conflicts; the priority will be given to teen mothers, former child soldiers who were forcibly enrolled in armed groups, street children and those living with physical disabilities.

A 501(C)(3) Apprenticeship Intermediary Addressing A Growing Labor Shortage And Supporting Continued Economic Expansion.

Build A Pro Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Apprenticeship Intermediary in Salina, Kansas built to address the growing labor shortage and support the continued economic expansion of our community; comprised of divisions whose focus will be to reach and serve the specific populations they are named after. While we may expand in the future, our current divisions and focus are Youth, Military, Diverse Ability, Immigration, and the Lazarus division (specifically designed to support second-chance individuals with backgrounds from incarceration, addiction treatment, and homelessness). 

In all areas, Build A Pro Foundation will aggressively seek additional workforce in otherwise untapped populations. In each of our divisions we will be actively recruiting to cast a wide net and share the opportunity of apprenticeship with the larger population.

Our cornerstone project was building East & Central Africa's 1st Public Children's Hospital.  Since opening in 2015, we have treated over 1.3 million kids. We also run a vibrant Women's Empowerment Project focusing on agri-biz and domestic violence survivors.  Our latest major project is constructing the first children's cancer hospital in sub-Saharan Africa.

ROC-DC has been building power with restaurant workers since 2009. We are a small worker-led organization that utilizes base-building, organizing and worker-led advocacy to move our mission forward. We have a strong focus on community building and leadership development to strengthen our ability as a restaurant worker community to make the changes we want to see in our industry and in DC. ROC-DC is fully independent organization from ROC-United (circa June 2024).  

**Addressing the Current Moment**

ROC-DC has been specifically equipped to support workers during crises, and have provided systems of support, training and mutual aid during the threats of Trump's first presidency, during the COVID-19 pandemic and currently under the federal occupation of Washington, DC that is putting so many of our members and restaurant workers at risk. ROC-DC has not only been providing necessary mutual aid support to our members, but also building out systems where workers can support one another during this time. We have provided comprehensive resources to restaurant owners/management supported members with creating Emergency Family Plans and provided ongoing community  & healing spaces to share resources and stay in community during such a stressful and isolating time.

The Kyiv Independent is an award-winning English-language media outlet covering Ukraine and Eastern Europe.

The Kyiv Independent is **Ukraine’s fastest-growing English-language media outlet**, established in November 2021, just three months before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The Kyiv Independent was born out of a **fight for freedom of speech**. It was co-founded by a group of journalists who were fired from the Kyiv Post, then a prominent newspaper, as the owner attempted to take the newsroom under control and end its critical coverage of Ukrainian authorities.

Just three months after the Kyiv Independent was launched, Russia invaded Ukraine. **Our team stayed in Ukraine and kept on reporting on what was now a war against their country.**

The team’s resilience and **uncompromising reporting quickly made the Kyiv Independent a key source of news** from Ukraine for millions of people around the world.

**We vowed to serve the principles of honest journalism even during an ongoing war**. We have published investigations, including into misconduct within the Ukrainian military. It has solidified our readers’ trust in us as an independent news source. The Kyiv Independent has won multiple awards for its work.

We had to grow fast. Today, **the Kyiv Independent is a dynamic organization** producing stories, video reports, newsletters, documentaries, and more. In March 2023, we formed a separate unit within the team to investigate Russian war crimes. The team has **published nine documentaries so far, uncovered multiple war crimes, and seven international awards** for its work. 

**Unlike many news organizations, the Kyiv Independent has no single owner** or external source of financing. Instead, the majority of our funding comes directly from our readers — most of whom give just $5 a month. In 2024, 70% of our revenue was from membership and donations. 

Thanks to the support of our readers, the Kyiv Independent doesn’t need to depend on a wealthy owner — and doesn’t have a paywall. Our journalism is free and accessible to everyone, regardless of ability to pay, because we believe that everyone should have access to accurate and reliable information.

1. **We reach almost 3 million monthly readers in 2025.**  Millions of people now read the Kyiv Independent every month. Our monthly website audience grew from 13,000 readers in January 2022 to close to 3 million monthly readers in 2025.
2. **Over 30,000 stories have been published** since launching the Kyiv Independent, including daily news updates, war coverage, business, culture, and opinions.
3. **We have published more than 150 field reports**, including dozens of stories from the front lines, bringing you on-the-ground coverage from places like Avdiivka, Bakhmut, Chasiv Yar, and Vovchansk.
4. **We have conducted 30 investigations**, including an award-winning investigation into alleged misconduct in Ukraine’s International Legion and leaked documents showing Russia’s plan to take over Belarus by 2030.

There are around 30,000 women in Ethiopia living with devastating childbirth injuries called obstetric fistula, because they don't know help is available. An estimated 1,000 women suffer a new fistula injury every year. Catherine’s trailblazing **Hamlin Model of Care** - today replicated around the world - finds, treats and holistically heals these women, restoring their lives.

Women living with childbirth injuries suffer great trauma. Following obstructed labour, they are left incontinent and usually lose their baby. They are shunned from their community and live hidden not knowing help available.

In a single year, Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia treats more than 6,000 patients and perform more than 2,000 surgeries.

We also provide counseling and a range of vocational training to support nearly 1,000 women in their recovery. A woman's healing journey starts the moment she arrives at a Hamlin fistula hospital. She is given a Comfort Package containing a Hamlin blanket that has been lovingly made by a volunteer, hygiene items, a new nightgown and slippers, and a homecoming dress.

These are utter luxuries for the many women who arrive at a Hamlin hospital without shoes, wearing the only stained clothes they own. When they wrap themselves in their Hamlin blanket, they feel the warm embrace of people like you.

Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia's work is centered in Ethiopia, a country with one of the highest fertility and maternal mortality rates in the world. Our vision is simple: To eradicate obstetric fistula. Forever.

For more than six decades, Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia has implemented our world-recognized approach to the holistic treatment of women and girls with obstetric fistulas — severe injuries resulting from prolonged, unrelieved and obstructed labor, typically in the absence of skilled birth attendants.

In 93% of cases, the mother suffers not only dramatic tissue damage, but she also loses her new baby. Nerve damage and weakened pelvic muscles make many daily tasks unmanageable. And, women are also often ostracized from their communities – cut off from avenues to leading a full, healthy and happy life.

The Hamlin Model of Care – The World's Leading Approach to Treating Obstetric Fistula

Dr Catherine Hamlin pioneered an approach to treating obstetric fistula, including developing a new surgical technique, that dramatically changes the lives of women and girls — in some cases in no more than an hour.

The Hamlin Model of Care is unique because it is not just about repairing injury, but restoring dignity. Hamlin's Rehabilitation and Reintegration Program at Desta Mender offers counseling, literacy and numeracy classes. Additional programs for vocational and life skills training help women find sustainable employment or establish their own small businesses. Today, Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia is staffed by more than 550 Ethiopian medical professionals and five regional hospitals have been established to respond to the significant demand for fistula surgery.

To accelerate change for women in Ethiopia, our Project Zero teams will go from door-to-door, in every Woreda (district) to identify women living with historic fistula cases and organize care and treatment. At the same time, we will strengthen maternal healthcare services, to reduce the incidence of birth injuries, and increase awareness, so women have the tools and knowledge they need to give birth safely. Lasting change for women and girls requires building a workforce of skilled birth attendants. Through our Hamlin College of Midwives, we recruit women from rural communities in Ethiopia to learn the Hamlin Model of Care during a four-year Bachelor of Science in Midwifery program.  The curriculum is fully certified and includes the precondition that students conduct at least 40 deliveries before they graduate. Upon graduation, Hamlin midwives return to their villages – today staffing over 90 rural midwifery clinics in remote areas.

Available dogs are found by Good Samaritans, face a 'death row' sentence at animal control, or are with owners who seek to relinquish. Whole Child International is a nonprofit, international child protection and development organization founded in 2004. 

Whole Child International works collaboratively with local partners, governmental and non-governmental, to ensure that children receive the quality of care they need to grow into resilient, productive citizens, regardless of where they live.  We use an evidence-informed approach, drawing on cutting edge child development research, to train caregivers, child protection authorities, and government actors to ensure the entire child protection and development system is focused on ensuring positive outcomes for the most vulnerable children.  

Our work in Nicaragua and El Salvador produced statistically significant improvements in cognitive and social functioning, as well as weight- and height-for-age, without substantial changes to the material environment or their diets.  We change the behavior of the adults around the children to provide relationship-centered care and transform children's developmental trajectory.  Developmentally supportive care in childhood is associated with better educational, economic, health (physical and mental), and social outcomes later in life; that is, providing quality care for today's children helps reduce poverty, conflict, and social inequities in the future.  

Women and children are disproportionately affected by violence, climate change, and poverty; they are also key to disrupting these harmful cycles.  Our approach strengthens families, both biological and not, by equipping caregivers with the skills they need to care for their children's holistic needs, emotional, developmental, nutritional, etc.  We work with childcare centers and providers in low-income and high-violence areas to improve the quality of care available to children who might otherwise not have access to these services.  We especially work with women -- both caregivers and those working in the child protection system -- to develop their capacity as community leaders and models for positive change.
