Making my previous donation recurring :) The Steel Yard is an amazing crossroads of magical people and ideas. It's a place were people come to learn new job skills, explore the industrial history of Rhode Island, create public art, and at least once a year, see molten iron flung into the air.  It's the kind of place where a welder who's been working on submarines for 40 years can be found collaborating with a young ceramic artist. It's so full of creativity, teamwork, and a deep care for the Rhode Island community.

The more I learn about local government, the more it seems like infrastructure spending is a Ponzi scheme. Small towns thriving is so important to the country (and the world). 🏘

There is no better way to give than to give directly to the people who need it the most. I truly believe that they can make the best decision for themselves, and I would love to help empower them to do so!

SACS is a centre of teaching, cultural and sporting excellence that promotes critical thinking and social responsibility.

SACS is the oldest high school in South Africa, founded in September 1829. It is arguably the most magnificent setting at the foot of Table Mountain and Devils peak. The school prides itself on the balanced education it provides, the world-class facilities on offer, the fact that SACS men strive for excellence in all spheres of school life and that it places a strong emphasis on high moral values. 

Far from resting contentedly on its 186 year-old record of growth and excellence, SACS in the 1980s and early 90s, led the Open Schools' Movement, making it possible, without the formal sanction of the Nationalist Government, for the integration of South African schools. Boys 'of colour,' Muslim and Christian, had been enrolled at SACS throughout the 19th century but, segregated for 85 odd years by the Cape School Board's Act of 1905 and the subsequent blight of apartheid, the school had the unusual satisfaction of  re-opening  its doors in 1992 to boys of all races. One of only four schools world-wide privileged enough to possess its own Rhodes Scholarship, SACS has attracted to itself pupils possessing the calibre, academically, culturally and in the sporting sphere to qualify for consideration for this, 'our greatest prize.'

The world's most painful condition demands urgent action. Help us accelerate access to effective treatments for cluster headaches.

**About cluster headache**

Cluster headache ("suicide headache") is often considered the most painful medical condition. Patients [rate it](https://doi.org/10.1111/head.14021) as significantly more painful than childbirth, kidney stones, gunshot wounds, and bone fractures. Standard painkillers don't help.

Even in wealthy nations with advanced healthcare, **hundreds of thousands** still experience torture-like suffering every year. About 50% of all patients have contemplated suicide. At the same time, global funding for cluster headache is virtually nonexistent. **This crisis cannot go on any longer.**

**Psychedelics save lives**

Psychedelics like psilocybin, LSD, and DMT have shown promise in treating cluster headache pain, in some cases with 70–80% of surveyed users reporting significant relief. Some patients even achieve complete remission.

Often, low, sub-hallucinogenic doses are more than enough to prevent clusters or stop attacks acutely. Patients could self-medicate safely and with minimal side effects.

However, only a tiny minority of patients have access to these life-saving treatments. Given the severity of the pain, the situation is analogous to refusing anesthesia to patients during surgery. **This is absolutely unacceptable.**

We have no staff or rent to pay but there are always some expenses involved when running an organization which are necessary to have the programs to be effective.

The Steel Yard offers arts and technical training programs designed to increase opportunities for cultural and artistic expression.

The Steel Yard is a non-profit industrial art center and shared studio located in Providence, RI. We’re an arts maker space and non-traditional craft school offering courses & educational programs in blacksmithing, welding, jewelry, foundry, and ceramics. 

Our public projects department fabricates functional, design-driven public-art for installation throughout Southeastern New England. These decorative bike racks, trash cans, benches, and fences are found at businesses and main streets from Western Massachusetts to Block Island, with custom metal sculptures installed along waterways, parks, schools and public spaces across the region.

We’re a community of artists, makers, and learners. We host an artist residency program for emerging and mid-level artists that provides full access to our studios and equipment. Our welding job training program pays under-employed Rhode Islanders to learn welding, shop safety, and associated skills with the goal of getting a good-paying job.

Our 3.8-acre award-winning campus is the perfect venue for public and private events and one-of-a-kind fundraisers like our annual Halloween Iron Pour.

Delivering unconditional cash directly to the world's poorest households via secure mobile transfers. 

Since 2009, GiveDirectly has delivered more than $1 billion in unconditional cash transfers directly into the hands of 2+ million people living in poverty. These one-time cash transfers allow recipients to invest in what they need most and have been shown to improve their earnings, children’s school attendance, health, nutrition, and mental well-being.
 
GiveDirectly uses government data to target villages where most or all residents are living in extreme poverty, defined by the World Bank as earning under $3/day. In-country GiveDirectly staff enroll each household in a village to receive a large lump sum transfer of \~$1,000 USD using mobile money. Recipients can then use the funds to invest in what they need – whether it’s on starting a business, education, repairing their home, healthcare, livestock, or anything else.
 
GiveDirectly also uses rigorous experimental research (including randomized controlled trials) to measure the impact of their cash programs, answer public policy questions, and generate evidence on key design and implementation questions.

The Diaspora Salon is an initiative of Association Collectif Eclats de Lune which organizes cross-cultural events . This specific program is an annual convening of scholars, artists, cultural practitioners, financiers, technologists, and community builders from across Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, and the Americas. It is designed as an intentional intervention: a space where students and entrepreneurs experience, often for the first time, what it means to belong to excellence—and to be seen, valued, and welcomed into it. 

Beyond inspiration the participants gain durable access to a global network that invests in their potential, mentors their ambitions, and walks alongside them over time. This is social capital made visible, transferable, and enduring. Most Black students and entrepreneurs remain structurally excluded from these global networks. Few have the opportunity to travel. Fewer still have direct relationships with Black leaders operating at the highest levels across sectors and geographies.

Philanthropic support for the Diaspora Salon directly addresses this gap. It ensures that proximity to excellence is not an accident of privilege, but a deliberate act of investment—one that creates lifelong networks, expands global possibility, and helps a new generation imagine, and access, futures previously out of reach.

Our annual gathering unfolds in Marrakech, beginning on the final day of the Contemporary African Art Fair 1:54 — a moment when the city hums with creativity and the spirit of Black cultural imagination. They are then immersed in a world where brilliance travels freely across continents, and art collectors from around the globe arrive to celebrate Black excellence in contemporary art.

For many who may not often step inside museums, it becomes a revelation — a doorway into the vast and powerful presence of Black artists shaping the global stage. Creativity is not simply seen. It is felt, shared, and honored as part of a living, breathing heritage. 

After discovering the international power of Black visual artists, participants are then immersed in four days of luminous conversations with leaders who look like them — voices of brilliance, achievement, and imagination. In their presence, possibility widens. Dreams feel nearer. And students begin to see that they, too, can aspire — and belong — at the very center of excellence.

What is Mutual Aid?

**Mutual aid is “cooperation for the sake of the common good.” It’s getting people to come together to meet each other’s needs, recognizing that as humans, our survival is dependent on one another.**

Mutual Aid is a practice and politics that emphasizes solidarity rather than charity. It means we recognize that our well-being, health and dignity are all bound up in each other. It means that we understand our survival depends on cooperation, not competition. In this particular moment, we see that our health is also dependent on other people’s health, and we can literally save each other’s lives. Rather than disengage and feel powerless, mutual aid allows us to plug in where we can make the most impact — locally.

Mutual aid IS...

- Getting people together in your community to provide material support to each other
- Building relationships with your neighbors based on trust and common interest
- Making decisions by consensus rather than relying on authority and hierarchy
- Sharing things rather than hoarding things
- Treating no one as disposable
- Providing all kinds of support, ranging from food prep to childcare to translation to emotional support, and recognizing the value of all of them
- A political education opportunity, where we build the relationships and analysis to understand why we are in the conditions that we're in
- Preparation for the next disaster (natural or economic). Next time around we'll already have relationships with each other and know who is vulnerable and needs support
- A great jumping off point for other kinds of organizing and movement work

DC Mutual Aid Network

The DC Mutual Aid Network (DCMA) is a grassroots community-led effort looking to take care of each other and keep our city as safe as possible.

- DCMA is a decentralized, community-led effort, so there is no single group that runs the network.
- There are autonomous groups for Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. Wards 7 & 8 are served together by one group.
- The DCMA Network is governed by the ward groups on topics of social media, website, fundraising, etc. The groups also share resources, best practices and offer referrals to other groups.

Ward 2 Efforts

Ward 2 Mutual Aid is part of the larger DCMA Network. Our concrete activities are:

- **Hotline** - Volunteers staff our warmline, where Ward 2 residents can call and request assistance.
- **Groceries** - We provide a grocery bag delivery to ~150 families that request it through our hotline or building captains. The bags include fresh produce, protein, dry goods, and requested household items.
- **Encampment Outreach** - We organize a supply drop to ~120 unhoused neighbors.
- **Building captains** - We organize with local residents to utilize their leadership and relational networks. Building captains check on neighbors, relay needs, and assist with food donations and distribution.
- **Back to school** - We organize with local parents to host a book and clothing swap.
- **Support for high risk/immuno-compromised individuals** - We have been partnering with local public housing buildings to drop off cleaning supplies, masks, and groceries.

Ward 2 Mutual Aid

MMP creates fundraising for those whom can't afford mental health services through endurance sports & mountain climbing 

Mental Mountains Project was founded by Keith Batenhorst after years of daily struggle with his own mental health including panic attacks, anxiety, and self-medication. He turned his personal journey into a movement motivated by the idea that no matter how tall, we all face our own mental mountains each day. Inspired by the symbolism is overcoming and climbing our challenges one step at a time, Keith created Mental Mountains Project to show everyone the human spirit is stronger than we think. We at MMP live our lives by the motto to "keep showing up." We aim to inspire, create awareness, and raise funds for those who otherwise would not be able to afford & receive proper mental health services. 

Through ultra endurance challenges, and climbing expeditions we try to carry the weight of the world for the spirit that needs to know someone is out there fighting for them. It's possible to push past your self-imposed limits and live a life beyond what you could have dreamed of.

We support the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary's goals in Australian wildlife rehab, care, conservation, and community involvement.

Friends of Bonorong was established in 2021, and acts as a fundraising arm to the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary and Bonorong Wildlife Hospital & Rescue, including its Primary Care Teams. Our aims are to fundraise for the immediate care of wildlife in crisis and for the ongoing protection of Tasmanian and Australian wildlife in need. Through business partnerships, one oﬀ donations, fundraising campaigns and ongoing donations and partnerships, supporters will play a crucial role in helping Bonorong to ensure the survival of our wildlife.



Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary is a positive impact tourism business empowering the best outcomes for wildlife through education and conservation. The Sanctuary delivers a vital community service and believes in fortifying a future where wildlife and the environment is valued and thrives. Bonorong is committed to the welfare of animals in care and operate Tasmania’s largest 24-hour wildlife rescue service, including the only fully dedicated Wildlife Hospital in the state. SORBA Orlando is the Orlando/Central Florida chapter of the Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association.

Founded in 2013, SORBA Orlando has grown to include eight distinct and fun trails in and around Orlando and its suburbs, with more trail miles on the way!  SORBA Orlando trails offer everything from family-friendly places to ride, endurance bike races and time trials, skills-building sections, and opportunities to give back to the community.

By partnering with the community SORBA Orlando builds and maintains our local trails. Your support goes directly to materials, workday essentials, and training needed to keep the area rolling in a fun, sustainable and safe environment.

We bring several events to the community including the annual Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day and have sponsored The Battle of Snow Hill and Markham Woods Masher endurance races for several years.

About us



Zimele is a registered non-profit company (K2020173723) with public benefit organization (PBO) status (9159165258) and NPO status (245-021 NPO). Zimele (independence in Xhosa) was founded in 2020 by Dr Sarah Whitehead; a medical doctor with a PhD in health sciences education, Jayson Chin; an orthotist and prosthetist and Rodney Lakay; a businessman and bilateral amputee.



Zimele’s interdisciplinary team of health professionals will provide prosthetic fitting and physical and psychological rehabilitation services for amputees from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds and will aid in their societal integration through access to skills training and work opportunities – we aim to meet the SDG Good health and well-being by increasing accessibility to prosthetic rehabilitation.



An important part of Zimele is helping our beneficiaries find employment, thus adding to improving their quality of life. This is likely to involve disability education and engagement with corporates around employment equity and disability rights.



Zimele supports amputees in becoming self- sufficient members of society through comprehensive rehabilitation services, and we advocate for policy change to ensure that these services are available to all. Zimele’s interdisciplinary team of health professionals provide prosthetic fitting and physical and psychological rehabilitation services for amputees from disadvantaged socioeconomic

backgrounds, and we aid in their societal integration through access to skills training and work opportunities.



Our Model



We approach a person’s rehabilitation holistically, designing a roadmap according to each amputee’s individual needs and goals. Our interdisciplinary team includes a medical doctor, a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist, a prosthetist, and a psychologist, each working with the patient to ensure that all aspects of the individual’s life are considered.



We also support our clients in their reintegration into the workforce, encouraging economic self-sufficiency. Zimele will assist and encourage our clients to understand relevant legislation and policies so that they can be advocates for themselves and for others with disabilities, enhancing their quality of life.



Past and future activities



To date we have successfully put 13 amputees - 2 are bilateral amputees therefore we have made 15 legs - through our program. In the future we want increase the amount of people we help each year.

A 501(C)(3) Apprenticeship Intermediary Addressing A Growing Labor Shortage And Supporting Continued Economic Expansion.

Build A Pro Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Apprenticeship Intermediary in Salina, Kansas built to address the growing labor shortage and support the continued economic expansion of our community; comprised of divisions whose focus will be to reach and serve the specific populations they are named after. While we may expand in the future, our current divisions and focus are Youth, Military, Diverse Ability, Immigration, and the Lazarus division (specifically designed to support second-chance individuals with backgrounds from incarceration, addiction treatment, and homelessness). 

In all areas, Build A Pro Foundation will aggressively seek additional workforce in otherwise untapped populations. In each of our divisions we will be actively recruiting to cast a wide net and share the opportunity of apprenticeship with the larger population.

Organized volunteers providing outreach to unhoused folks with urgent relief: warmth, food, humanity, and  connection to services.

Town Bizness exists to bring the necessities of a dignified human life to the unhoused population of Oakland and Berkeley, CA. 
These necessities include good food, reliable shelter, clothing, toiletries, bedding, and basic creature comforts such as safe propane stoves and heaters, radios, and more, depending on each client’s needs. 

We also assist with housing, and keeping folks connected to service providers by supplying telephones and monthly service. 

The majority of folks we serve were born where they now live in tents, and once had property ownership in their families here in the bay area, but no longer do. Most are seniors, and many of them are now sick and/or disabled.

Makan was founded in 2015 by Tamara Ben-Halim and Dr. Tareq Baconi to nurture and amplify the voices of human rights advocates, drive a rights-based narrative forward and ultimately help change the mainstream discussion on Palestine/Israel to one that upholds freedom, justice, and dignity. Today, Makan equips students, grassroots leaders, and organisations within the ecosystem of Palestinian rights and social justice with the tools, knowledge and confidence they need to transform the existing narrative on Palestine/Israel in Britain and beyond, and to advocate for human rights. We connect people to one another, facilitate spaces for learning and exchange, and build community in order to strengthen the ecosystem around us. To date, Makan has: - Supported over 10,000 people globally through our online talks and events  - Directly built the capacities of over 2,900 human rights supporters in Britain & Ireland, Palestine, Europe and the US through our intensive educational training programme - Reached hundreds of thousands of people through our educational content on social media - Become a critical educational resource at the forefront of the ecosystem on Palestine/Israel, and built an excellent reputation for our credibility, our rigorous content & workshops, and our collaborative nature as an organisation.

Together they developed LANIN a hybrid rocket and became the first Latin American team to launch it successfully with engines using solid and liquid propellants.

Founded in 1996, Parkersburg South Crew and South Parkersburg Rowing support rowing activities in Parkersburg, WV. 

South Parkersburg Rowing's (SPR) mission is to foster a welcoming and rewarding holistic environment for student-athletes and the community to access and experience the life-changing sport of rowing. SPR will support this mission by: 

1. Maintaining and constantly seeking to improve our rowing venue, equipment, and infrastructure. 
2. Providing the best training facility and coaching possible for all SPR constituents including student athletes, alumni, and community members. 
3. Promoting opportunities for area youth to excel in the sport of rowing. 
4. Supporting and engaging in local, regional, and national rowing regattas and events.
5. Supporting community development across the South Parkersburg area through various rowing programs.

We are a social science think tank researching long-term social and technological change, particularly moral circle expansion. We make our research results public and free, so anyone can use them to make more impactful decisions with their advocacy, careers, donations, and other resources.

We are founded on the principle of effective altruism, meaning we strive to help others as much as possible using the best evidence available. We envision a society in which the interests of all sentient beings are fully considered, regardless of their sex, race, species, substrate, location, or any other characteristic apart from their sentience. We see this expansion as an important means to prevent suffering now and in the far future.

Our mission is to conduct interdisciplinary research on moral circle expansion and to share that research with individuals and institutions making the world a better place. Two particularly important areas of expansion are farmed animals and artificial sentience.

Project Transition

My Dog Is My Home's mission is to increase access to shelter and housing for people experiencing homelessness with animals.

My Dog Is My Home is a national nonprofit dedicated to increasing access to shelter and housing for people experiencing homelessness with companion animals. By securing their ability to maintain their most important relationships and find adequate shelter, we ensure every family’s right to build a home.

We assist service providers like homeless shelters in expanding their programming to allow humans and their companion animals to remain together. My Dog Is My Home’s programs currently fall into three categories: storytelling, community building, and technical assistance.

STORYTELLING
Storytelling is at the foundation of our work. We believe that people who are impacted by the problem are necessarily close to the solution. My Dog Is My Home provides a platform for people with actual lived experience of homelessness and animal companionship to share in their own words how co-sheltering people and animals together contributes to ending homelessness. Through exhibitions, speaking events, and video or narrated images, we are able to educate members of the public, program administrators, and policymakers about preserving the human-animal bond in circumstances of homelessness.

COMMUNITY BUILDING
We believe in the mantra that we are “stronger together.” My Dog Is My Home holds space for members of the homeless services and animal welfare communities to come together to connect, learn from one another, and solve mutual problems. Most notably, our community building efforts have created two related but distinct stakeholder watering holes: 

1) Annual Co-Sheltering Conference
Since 2021, My Dog Is My Home’s annual conference has drawn 400-500 people together from across disciplines to hear from homeless shelter programs about co-
sheltering models in practice, latest research in homelessness and animal companionship, and relevant policy efforts across the US and globally.

2) Co-Sheltering Collaborative
The Co-Sheltering Collaborative is a peer-to-peer learning network with membership that
spans across animal welfare and homeless services. This Collaborative meets as a large group on a quarterly basis to exchange resources, troubleshoot, and hear presentations from members on the progress of their work. In between large group meetings, working groups meet to produce deliverables that work towards collectively developed goals. The Collaborative also provides a sustained community for attendees of the annual conference.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
My Dog Is My Home also works with homeless shelters that need more hands-on assistance with developing or implementing co-sheltering. We provide customized training, consultation on policies, and resource coordination to ensure a successful co-sheltering program.

Lil BUB is a one of a kind space cat. Since landing on Earth, she's raised over $1,000,000 for homeless pets nationwide.

Lil BUB’s Big Fund exists to advocate for special needs companion animals and build a community that celebrates and fosters the human-animal bond. With a focus on animals that are the most difficult to adopt, the most expensive to care for, and are at a high risk of euthanasia. 

Lil BUB’s Big Fund provides access to care for special needs pets nationwide. We work with community leaders, shelters, and rescues nationwide to create special needs focused frameworks. We visit schools to promote kindness and inclusion. Through our work, we share BUB’s message of overcoming adversity and the knowledge that the things that make us different are worthy of being seen and appreciated.
