VCCA works to educate Virginian communities, health professionals, and lawmakers about the health impacts of climate change.

In 2015, pediatrician Dr. Samantha Ahdoot was asked to testify in front of the Virginia General Assembly, on behalf of the American Academy of Pediatrics, in support of a clean air bill. Virginia legislators were surprised and initially confused that a physician was speaking out about climate change, but many noted that the pediatrician's statement led them to support the bill, and the bill passed. 

Following this experience, Dr. Ahdoot realized that the voice of health professionals was needed, and lacking in statewide discussions about climate action. She and other health professionals began meeting in the hospital conference room to talk about how they could educate, empower, and mobilize other health professionals to become advocates for climate solutions in Virginia.

Almost 10 years later, VCCA has over 650 members, with committees including Healthcare Sustainability, Nutrition, Legislative Advocacy, Education, and Climate Justice, who are engaged in action at health professional schools, communities, and health systems across the state of Virginia.

Peer Power Foundation is a youth development organization that seeks to close equity gaps that exist within the public education system. Since 2004, we have created opportunities for Memphis students to grow into productive adults who contribute to the city and nation in accordance with their passion. 

Peer Power recruits, hires, trains and deploys college-aged students into high school classrooms to decrease the student to teacher ratio and meet the individualized needs of students. We also hire and train 11th and 12th grade students to tutor students in lower grades, helping to close literacy gaps during crucial academic development stages. In addition, Peer Power partners with external organizations to train tutors within for their programming needs. 

In 2015, Peer Power Foundation created the “Memphis Model” in partnership with Memphis- Shelby County Schools (MSCS) and University of Memphis. The program employs more than 150 University of Memphis tutors called “Success Coaches” who are trained and placed within high school classrooms. This unique configuration reduces the student-to-adult ratio from about 30-to-1 down to roughly 10-to-1. Success Coaches are paid, earn college credit, gain professional experience and help MSCS students, while classroom teachers experience higher job satisfaction and retention.

We are a national, bipartisan non-profit organization that builds advocacy campaigns where local, state, and national partners operate with the shared goal of passing Clean Slate laws in states and in Congress.

Through partnerships, collaboration, and coordinated advocacy campaigns, the Clean Slate Initiative unites businesses, advocates, community members, and impacted people across the country.

We support state-based campaigns with the goal of passing laws that ensure conviction and non-conviction records are automatically sealed once someone has completed their sentence and remained crime-free for a period of time. 

The Clean Slate Initiative supports campaigns that have clear goals, well-thought-out strategies, and a vision for building a base of support that can defend and sustain policy wins.

Since this initiative’s inception, we have helped pass legislation that provides a path for: 

- 2.3 million people to have at least one conviction or non-conviction cleared;

- 7.3 million conviction and non-conviction cases to be cleared; and

- 2 million people to receive full record clearance.

You may wonder - why is there a need for Clean Slate Initiatives? Here are the facts: 

1 in 3 adults in the United States have an arrest or conviction record that limits their ability to work, obtain housing, and engage in civic life. Having a record, even an arrest record, is a significant barrier to economic mobility. 

- 9 in 10 employers use background checks when hiring.

- 4 in 5 landlords use background checks on prospective tenants.

- 3 in 5 colleges and universities use background checks on prospective students.

There are more than 44,000 collateral consequences that limit the ability of people with a record to access meaningful opportunities to build a better life. Our work focuses on automating the process to remove those barriers, providing a real second chance for the millions who are currently impacted by an arrest or conviction record.

DC Justice Lab is a team of law and policy experts researching, organizing, and advocating for large-scale changes to the District’s criminal legal system. 

DC Justice Lab envisions a District that:
- Treats every person as an essential part of our community and no longer subjugates, dehumanizes, or jettisons people who have broken the law.
- Recognizes that it has historically underserved and overpoliced poor people and Black people, creating and subjugating an undercaste that is system-involved.
- Takes dramatic measures to rectify and reverse the harm it inflicted.
- Constantly reexamines its rules and practices to ensure they are calibrated to make us collectively safer, freer, and equal. 
- Ends its reliance on police, prosecutors, and prisons, in favor of solutions that maximize safety and freedom for all.

The TJ Carrie Foundation provides a social-emotionally supportive community for children and families living with heart conditions

The mission of the TJ Carrie Foundation is to provide a social-emotionally supportive community for children and families living with heart conditions, while educating the greater community on heart health. In addition to inspiring youth to Dream Big through  education and physical activity.  

​When the NFL cornerback started his foundation in 2016, TJ’s goal was to help young people struggling with physical challenges, offering encouragement and advice to children and families dealing with health issues. Along with his wife, Ty’lsha, the foundation’s mission has grown to inspire all youths to establish and achieve big dreams. With signature programs and community events, the foundation provides a platform for TJ to be hands-on and engaged with young people and their families,  helping them overcome their problems and accomplish their goals.  The TJ Carrie Foundation’s approach is built on the pillars of faith, hope, courage, and love.

Being a professional football player being able to play the game is such a blessing for TJ each day and one that he does not take for granted. He dreamed about putting on those pads and helmet and playing under the Friday night lights, on Saturday afternoons, and even on to the NFL.

 As a 14-year-old freshman at Deer Valley High School in Antioch, California, TJ was hyped to begin his journey. On the first day of tryouts, his life changed forever. It was hot, and they were working hard. He was sweating and was having trouble catching his breathing … and then it all went dark.

TJ left the field in an ambulance and was transported to thehospital. The medical personnel stabilized him. But the doctors were stumped as to what caused his problem. It was a year later before they had an answer. TJ had a one-in-a-million birth defect where his right coronary artery was positioned between his lungs.

The doctors gave a now 15-year-old and his family two choices. He could give up any strenuous physical activity for the rest of his life, ending his dreams of playing football. Or TJ could undergo risky surgery to correct the problem. With the help of his family, he decided to take a chance, so he could keep alive his big dream of playing football. On Valentine’s Day 2006, TJ underwent open-heart surgery at Oakland Children’s Hospital.

He spent two months recuperating in the hospital, part of what became a year-and-a-half-long recovery. It was hard, scary, and challenging, but he was driven by his big heart and a relentless work ethic to achieve his dream.  He recovered and was finally able to play football as a senior at De La Salle High School in Concord, California, where the Spartans won a state championship that season. He went to Ohio University, where he played 50 games for the Bobcats and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sports administration. 

And his ultimate dream was achieved when Oakland selected him in the 2014 NFL Draft, beginning a pro career where he has worn the uniform of the Raiders, Browns, and Colts.

Life Pieces To Masterpieces (LPTM) provides opportunities for Black and Brown boys and young men ages 3-25 to express themselves; navigate the challenges in their lives; teach and uplift others as mentors; and contribute positively to their communities. 

Boys enter the program as early as age three, with programming including a daily afterschool arts and education mentoring program from 3:00-7:00, which involves transportation and a meal, a college- and career-prep Saturday Academy for high school young men who also serve as mentors, a full-day six-week summer program, and family and community engagement. All programs are free for all youth and families. 

In all programs, LPTM provides an environment of love, security, and expression. Black boys and young men, from pre-school to grad-school and beyond, discover their authentic selves; awaken to a sense of purpose; have their brilliance and humanity valued and nurtured – and see themselves as the beautiful Masterpieces they are. In their artwork, advocacy, and model of mentorship, our Black boys and young men are protagonists of positive change.

The MG Foundation

To empower and mentor those most underrepresented in tech to be tech innovators through hands-on AI and computer science training.

CodeCrew directly addresses the diversity and access gap in tech. We offer educational opportunities that 1) teach children and adults to code while mentoring them toward careers in tech fields and 2) provide educators with the tools to increase computer science knowledge for all students. We are introducing an entire generation to the 21st-century skills foundational to individual success.  

CodeCrew is directly addressing that access gap in Memphis. By offering educational opportunities that 1) teach children and adults to code while mentoring them toward careers in tech fields and 2) provide educators the tools to increase computer science knowledge for all students, we are introducing an entire generation to the 21st-century skills foundational to individual success.  

Our tech education programs do not just teach students how to write code or produce software applications. Our programs enable analytical thinking, encouraging students to focus on big-picture outcomes and detail-level execution while allowing them to develop their leadership skills and take ownership of their decisions. Computer Science training teaches students to take pride in what they do, to accept feedback and peer criticism, and be excited about sharing their work with the world. Founded in December 2022, BGJWC is a nonprofit start-up.  2023 was a year of planning and implementation of community-building events to grow BGJWC's capacity and stakeholder network. In 2023, BGJWC obtain its IRS tax-exemption too.   In addition to hosting several web-based community dialogues and podcasts on environmental justice, green coops and green careers, BGJWC worked diligently with community partners to plan the launch of its Offshore Wind Workforce Development Training pilot as part of its Baltimore Green Jobs Academy.  BGJWC has also been working in two neighborhoods in Baltimore to build dialogue around climate change and solar power battery storage issues.  In 2024, BGJWC is set to launch the Offshore Wind Worker Safety Training Pilot via its Baltimore Green Jobs Academy.

Baltimore Green Justice Workers Cooperative (BGJWC)

We catalyze the power of the most vulnerable girls and young women to create the future they imagine.

CAMFED is a pan-African movement revolutionizing how girls’ education is delivered. Through a gold-standard system of accountability to the young people and communities we serve, we have created a model that radically improves girls’ prospects of becoming independent, influential women. Our impact increases exponentially through the Association of young women educated with CAMFED’s support. Together, we multiply the number of girls in school and accelerate their path to livelihoods and leadership.

CAMFED supports girls in government primary and secondary schools across Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ghana, Tanzania and Malawi to access school, succeed, and become leaders of change in their communities.

Wall Street Bound’s goal is to recruit and train 10,000 underrepresented youth for careers in finance by 2030. 

Launched in Summer 2019, Wall Street Bound’s goal is to recruit and train 10,000 underrepresented youth for careers in finance by 2030. Our mission is to provide urban young adults with the skills, experience, and social capital that empower them to reach their full potential through “front office” financial service careers. Wall Street Bound trains urban youth ages 16-24 in finance technical skills and the all important corporate professional skills. By cultivating the next generation of finance professionals, we hope to grow the number of people of color in finance and give underrepresented youth a chance to become future leaders on Wall Street and masters of their own financial worlds. 

Since inception, across the New York City community and beyond, Wall Street Bound has hosted finance workshops, bootcamps, live and virtual company visits, and other learning opportunities for more than 200 diverse urban young college students and recent graduates. Underserved communities suffer from a lack of access to financial literacy programs. Building financial security involves harnessing the array of resources, capabilities, and institutional supports that enable vulnerable families to sustain themselves, thrive, and move up the economic ladder. Sponsoring finance education programs in schools is instrumental in cultivating a pipeline of the next generation of Wall Street titans. Leveling the playing field starts with early exposure to knowledge and the vast range of career paths within the industry.

Our solution benefits low-income individuals, families, employers, and entire cities/regions. Students gain the skills and resources, including employer connections, to acquire and maintain successful careers, far beyond family-sustaining jobs. They learn to address financial security challenges and develop lifelong strategies for economic mobility. Employers benefit from an expanded pool of qualified diverse talent, and cities/regions thrive from retooling their youth workforces.

Low-income individuals are emblematic of overlooked human potential, their limited economic mobility rooted in geography (zip code as destiny), social pathologies, and economic exclusion. We remediate these barriers by accelerating student potential in ways that employers in financial services need and prescribe.

Wall Street Bound teaches both the necessary finance technical skills for successful careers on Wall Street, and provides the professional skills and social capital needed to break into the industry. By providing opportunities to meet Wall Street giants like Leon Cooperman and Mario Gabelli, industry experts, and other finance professionals of color, students can get a foothold on the ladder to meaningful finance careers and fiscally secure futures.

At the IDAC Foundation, we are committed to connecting the industry to advance:

- Financial Literacy: through partnerships and new programs, we acknowledge the full life cycle of financial literacy training and education needed to reduce wealth inequality. From early childhood education efforts to adult financial wellness programs, our goal is to ensure financial literacy becomes a fundamental right for all. 
- Financial Career Paths: we partner with various diverse intern and career path programs to generate a more inclusive workforce. Since entry level roles in financial services tend to start at higher income levels, we are investing time into programs and partnerships that train more underrepresented communities for a career in financial services, while creating mentoring programs for mid to late-stage leaders to take on roles as asset owners, chief of investment officers, trustees, board of directors, as an example.  
- Resource Sharing: we provide free thought leadership programming and research  to amplify data to leaders and institutions to make informed decisions on the state of underrepresented communities while tracking progress for a more inclusive ecosystem.

About Alma Institute: 

Our mission is to strengthen and diversify the network of legal psychedelic service providers by offering prioritized enrollment and certification opportunities to people from marginalized communities. We seek to increase benefits and prevent harms by creating pathways to apprenticeship, employment, and ongoing peer support for facilitators in this growing field.

Launching in Oregon in 2023, our social justice-rooted training program practicum to prepare students for licensure under the nation’s first legal psilocybin services program. We seek to raise industry standards so people from all backgrounds can find belonging and thrive in psychedelic work. This requires anchoring in trauma-informed care, cultural humility, feedback, accountability, and meaningful practices of sacred reciprocity. 

We exist so psychedelic healing work can not only be available to our communities, but relevant to our ancestral and lived experiences and impactful for generations to come.

Our Approach:

We hold a strong focus on continued support and skill building for new graduates, and are weaving a culture of engagement, mentorship and accountability into our programming. We will support this by hosting in person and digital integration circles for new and experienced facilitators, supporting networks of student pods to continue learning together, and leading industry-wide conversations about ethical standards and care. 

Oregon ranks among the worst for mental health conditions and is dismal in access to therapy and psychiatric services. The numbers are even worse for people from marginalized social locations. These community members experience higher rates of the very mental health conditions that psilocybin can help address. However, psilocybin is not a cure-all. Wellbeing is systemic and depends on the harmony of a variety of factors. The success of psilocybin services will depend largely on the trust and rapport established between client and facilitator, the client's sense of safety and belonging, the environment in which services occur, and importantly, the follow-up care and support provided.

As in talk therapy, it is critical that patients have the option of working with someone who has shared identifiers and can relate to their lived experience. This is especially important when working with racial and gender-based trauma and deep healing processes. 

Additionally, the lasting benefits of psilocybin will rely on external factors, such as access to healthcare, safe and consistent housing, healthy food, community support, and gainful employment. It is essential that individuals working in this new industry understand and are engaged with the intersectional approach to wellbeing and community health; if they don't, the industry will be peddling a short-term band-aid solution, with service sites overwhelmed by high-paying experience seekers and fail to deliver on the promises of lasting change and healing promoted by the Psilocybin Services Act. 

Alma Institute seeks to bring a deeper inquiry to psychedelic therapies and help raise standards for the field at large. If we are successful, we can shift the conversation from one laser focused on mental health, to one about the historical roots of our suffering and the systemic shifts needed for collective healing.

The experiences and cultural contributions of people of African descent have been marginalized throughout history and MoCADA’s mission is to undertake the responsibility of rewriting that history in order to give a more accurate portrayal of the contributions of people of African descent to the artistic and global landscape.

The Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) uplifts the visual, literary, and performing arts as a conduit that connects the shared history, values, and futures of Africa and its diaspora, for the purpose of advancing dialogue on pressing social + political issues faced by these communities. We give platform within our safe spaces to artists whose work honor, celebrate, and expand this rich conversation while inviting our community in to explore, engage, and thrive within our collective evolution.

For 20 years, MoCADA has empowered vulnerable communities and instilled a sense of pride in visitors through representation and access to the arts including 100+ groundbreaking artists from 20+ countries (Terence Nance, Dread Scott, Wangechi Mutu, etc) whose voices have gone largely ignored; to Black, LatinX, Indigenous, especially, low income, children, women, immigrants, elders, LGBTQ+, people living with disabilities etc from the communities of Central Brooklyn and beyond.

The Sengbe Pieh senior secondary excellence academy is dedicated to granting dozens of promising young women access to a quality high school education and to paving a way for them to forge a bright future. Through the academy, students not only gain strong academic foundations but also learn to establish their voice, gain awareness of their rights, take pride in and ownership of their minds and bodies, and gain the confidence to march forward and dictate their own successes. 

We aim to transform the face of education for girls in Sierra Leone with a mission to foster intellectual growth, develop leadership and catalyze social impact across communities.

We focus on four pillars of success:

1. Education quality: Our small class cohorts of 24 girls are taught by six subject matter teachers, which enables the personalized attention needed to achieve strong academic foundations. 

2. Civic and Female Empowerment: On “Special Fridays”, we teach topics key to civic education with a special focus on female empowerment.

3. Critical Thinking: By moving from corporal punishment to PBIS (Positive behavioral interventions and support) techniques, we create an environment where girls feel comfortable posing questions rather than avoiding wrong answers.

4. International exposure: We host international guest lecturers onsite. In the past, these partners have expanded computer literacy skills; taught girls about their reproductive systems; and conducted art therapy to foster self-esteem and resolve conflicts.

EBC builds power with systems-impacted people to drive systems-change. Over its 27-year history, the families and communities EBC organizes with have collectively transformed the criminal justice system in California, from closing  abusive youth prisons to passing first-of-its-kind legislation to challenge racial discrimination in trials and sentencing. Building on the organizing approach of civil rights leader Ella Baker, EBC invests in the leadership of the people most impacted by racial oppression. EBC is led by systems-impacted people and implements solutions created from lived expertise. Recent California victories like the Racial Justice Act for All, the RISE Act, and the Access to Programming Act were pioneered at EBC and are poised to bring thousands home to their families. EBC also invests in leadership in its core base. For example, currently incarcerated people are most impacted – but least included – in policies for decarceration. Through EBC’s 9,000+ inside member network, currently incarcerated people weigh in on policy solutions, organize with their peers, speak out on issues impacting their lives, and get support to advocate for their freedom. Locally, in the Bay Area, EBC builds credible alternatives to prisons. Restore Oakland, EBC’s community center, models investments that return opportunity to over-criminalized neighborhoods. Here, EBC and partners offer resources like restorative justice circles, re-entry support, tenants rights tools, job training, and entrepreneurship funding that build a vibrant, prosperous community. Organizing for safety, power, freedom, and opportunity, EBC advances the self-determination of the people most impacted by the criminal justice system.

 The Fund for Congolese Women (FFC)   supports women's grassroots organizations through financial and technical assistance.  FFC is unique - the only women-led grant-giving NGO in the entire DRC. We provide grants to local women-led organizations that are often in the most remote, difficult to reach areas.   Why? We are unshakable believers in local solutions to local issues.  We know that the brave women and girls working at the grassroots level have the solutions. We know that when women become agents of change, they benefit, their families benefit, their communities benefit. Since its inception in 2007, FFC has funded more than 386 projects throughout the Democratic Republic of Congo. We support projects focusing on eliminating sexual violence against women, delivering empowerment programs for women and girls, educating women about HIV/AIDS and reproductive health, and advocating for environmental justice and access to resources and land for women. The CoolineKids mission is to empower and equip young leaders of color through innovative, skill-based programming.


Founded on April 1st, 2014 by 9-year-old Christian, Coolinekids set out to make an impact on East Palo Alto by providing children a safe space to have fun. Through many years of service, growth and innovation, CoolineKids launched a 2 week summer experience for 100 young people in East Palo Alto to teach leadership through play and art. As CoolineKids is our community’s only leadership development program serving all ages; today, we share our renewed commitment to the East Palo Alto community by launching our new organization. The CoolineKids Organization teaches K-8 students creativity, compassion, communication, and collaboration (our four foundational principles of service leadership) through our hands-on curriculum that includes cooking, photography, reading, science, art, play, and engineering. CoolineKids believes young people learn best from other young people, that’s why we engage high school and college age youth to support as leaders at our summer camps. Our youth grow their leadership skills through a variety of programs including our CrewCamp training experience and our YouthCrew year round program. Our vision is that all youth will grow to become service-centric, family-minded leaders dedicated to inspiring change in their communities. And we are eager to live that out by empowering and equipping young leaders of color through innovative, skill-based programming.

Vision: Reinventing the path for Black women in early career stages pursuing STEM-based careers.

Black women constitute only 2 percent of STEM jobs. A statistic that has been stagnant since 2018. Black Women represent the largest unserved market and largest disruptive force in business. Black women struggle at every stage of the STEM pipeline. It’s not due to lack of desire, or capacity, it’s to lack of support.

Black Sisters in STEM (Black SiS) is on a mission to unleash the global brilliance of Gen Z Black Women by reinventing their journey towards STEM based careers. We are building and upskilling the largest talent marketplace of Black Gen Z women to systematically address the racial wealth gap and create generational socio-economic growth. In short, we help Black Gen Z women breaking into STEM careers share, learn, and get hired.

We have built an empire of ~8k Black women from 33 countries and 200+ schools. Growing membership at 75% YoY. Most importantly, earning our fellows $4M+ in compensation packages. From Lagos, Nigeria to Atlanta, GA we are building a career community the world has never seen.


Black Sisters in STEM (Black SiS)

Offering free life-transforming arts education to vulnerable children in Uganda to express themselves and live happily. 

We are addressing the most critical and urgent psychosocial needs affecting over 6 million children in Uganda. We do this by extending life-transforming opportunities in underserved communities where GBV is high, extreme unemployment and substance and drug abuse is high. Our arts education programs empower children to:

1. Express themselves creatively, building both transferable and hands-on skills that open new career pathways for them.

2. Develop essential Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skill to live and lead a happy life.

3. Design and lead sustainable projects that address some of the key pressing issues in their communities; an in groups of 5s, pitch for a seed investment between 50-150 USD.

In addition to all the great work we do, we have established an e-commerce (https://store.facesup.org) platform that gives young people in Uganda access to both local and international market to promote their pieces thus raise money to fund their education and livelihoods.
