The Cree and Chippewa languages of the Rocky Boy community are at a critical turning point. Today, most fluent speakers are elders in their 70s and 80s, and with each passing year, we are losing not only words but identity, history, and relationships carried through language.

Mahchiwminahnahtik Chippewa Cree Language Revitalization (MCCLR) exists to change that trajectory.

At the heart of our work is a simple but powerful belief: language revitalization is inseparable from health, identity, and healing. Through years of teaching and community work, we have seen how language strengthens emotional resilience, improves educational outcomes, reconnects families, and supports long-term community well-being.

Your donation directly supports:

  • Early childhood immersion beginning at age 1
  • Training and supporting Cree and Chippewa immersion teachers
  • Free community language classes for parents and adults
  • Curriculum development rooted in Cree Tipi Teachings and the Seven Grandfather Teachings
  • Language-based healing and wellness initiatives in partnership with local health programs

Strong immersion programs can lose up to 85% of language gains when students return home and to communities where the language is not spoken. That’s why MCCLR is building a community-wide language ecosystem—so children, parents, elders, and everyday community members can learn and use the language together.

Your support helps ensure Cree and Chippewa remain living, spoken languages—not only in classrooms, but in homes, ceremonies, and daily life—for generations to come.
