African Community Housing & Development's (ACHD) mission is to provide opportunities for African Diaspora immigrant and refugee communities, families, and individuals in King County to attain health and housing stability, economic development, high-quality education, and referrals to legal services. ACHD's talented team works toward a unified vision of an informed African immigrant and refugee community that is engaged in the holistic development of their families, communities, and environment. As an organization that is led by the community we serve, ACHD is uniquely positioned to meet the urgent needs of our community and provide culturally specific services. Our work stretches across the State of Washington, and in 2022 we served over 9,000 individuals in 55 zip codes with our holistic services.

ACHD's work is connected by three pillars: Housing & Social Services, Economic Development, and Education. By providing wraparound case management services for the whole family, ACHD is able to support individuals and their families find prosperity.

Housing & Social Services: Our first and most robust area of service, ACHD's Housing & Social Services Department ensures that families are safely housed in spaces that inspire growth. This department also encompasses our food access and basic needs program, sparked out of a need for fresh, healthy food and quality healthcare due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ACHD also provides a unique senior program that promotes the holistic wellbeing of our elders, while remaining culturally relevant and specific.

Economic Development: Our second area of service, ACHD's Economic Development Department works to support families as they strive towards prosperity. Workforce development, small business support, job placement, and continued education are all critical programs within this department.

Education: Our third area of service, ACHD's Education Department prioritizes experiential and hands-on education for learners of all ages. Current programs bring elementary and middle school-aged students into our beautiful Washington environment for play-based learning through a lens of environmental justice.
