Bluelight is an international, online, harm-reduction community committed to reducing the harms associated with drug use.

Bluelight neither condemns nor condones the use of drugs. Rather, we accept that drug use will always exist irrespective of legal status or societal norms. While there is no truly safe way to use drugs, we understand that prohibition and abstinence are not realistic or desirable solutions for everyone, nor have they been adequate in addressing the serious public health concerns associated with drug use.

While there is no universal definition of drug-related harm reduction, Bluelight believes that through frank and open discussion we are able to deliver accurate information, eliminate misinformation and empower individuals to make wiser, more responsible choices. Our approach is that any idea or concern is worth raising, so that all perspectives and experiences can weigh in and help others decide for themselves what to believe, what actions to take.

Bluelight understands that drug use encompasses a broad range of behaviors, some safer than others, and that drug use can progress towards increased risk with some individuals. We encourage our community to be honest and cognizant of their drug use and understand the warning signs of abuse and addiction before they manifest.

Bluelight also hosts a robust recovery community for those seeking a way out of drug abuse and addiction. These forums invite visitors to discuss addiction and sobriety in a non-judgmental setting, share recovery resources and encourage members to seek help. We believe there are various roads to recovery, including 12-step programs such as Narcotics/Alcoholics Anonymous and alternatives such as SMART Recovery.

Bluelight's overarching philosophy is simple. Meet people where they are and encourage open dialogue that empowers the individual to be the primary agent of their own physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

Bluelight operates a charitable project fiscally sponsored by Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, Inc. (MAPS), a Section 501(c)(3) public charity (federal tax ID: 59-2751953). In accordance with federal tax requirements, MAPS exercises discretion and control over all project funds. Please make your donations for the purposes of this project directly to MAPS.

We are creating access to treatment and training opportunities to bring MDMA-assisted therapy to communities that need it. Research shows that alignment among healthcare providers and their patients can improve survival, safety, and trust for patients. We are committed to developing a network of therapy providers who are reflective of the diverse demographics of people who experience trauma.

Together, we can bring healing to as many people as possible.

The Revolution Starts Now

With potential FDA approval of MDMA-assisted therapy on the horizon, our Health Equity Program includes a plan which will safely and effectively deliver this potentially life-saving care to as many people as possible.

This plan includes a fundraising goal and allocation strategy to four main initiatives over the next three years: Scholarships, Treatment Access Fund, Inclusive Community, and Expanding our Team.

Empyrean is the 20th incarnation of Temple at Burning Man, a treasured part of Black Rock City and communities around the world. 

Each year, the Temple at Burning Man is built by an all-volunteer crew and financed by the community. 

We believe that the Temple has had and will continue to have a profound impact on the community of people that it serves, and we are honored to work on a project that has this effect. We build the Temple for all, particularly those who can’t… and it can’t be built without your help. 

The Temple at Burning Man provides a safe place for all to embrace and let go of the trauma, loss, and pain that is an inevitable part of our human existence. Every person contributes their own meaning to the Temple. All are welcome to participate, bring offerings, celebrate, create unions, offer mementos of loved ones, write messages, cry, and meditate. On the final day of Burning Man, the Temple is burned - a symbolic gesture to bring closure and healing.

We strive to ease suffering by providing a comprehensive model of care that includes access to food, transportation, housing, and other key components of healing. We bring the benefits of modern medicine to those who have suffered from the overt and subtle injustices of the world, in the past and in the present. Our mission is to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care. By establishing long-term relationships with sister organizations based in settings of poverty, Partners In Health strives to achieve two overarching goals: to bring the benefits of modern medical science to those most in need of them and to serve as an antidote to despair.

We draw on the resources of the world’s leading medical and academic institutions and on the lived experience of the world’s poorest and sickest communities. At its root, our mission is both medical and moral. It is based on solidarity, rather than charity alone.

When our patients are ill and have no access to care, our team of health professionals, scholars, and activists will do whatever it takes to make them well—just as we would do if a member of our own families or we ourselves were ill.

Our Core Beliefs:
-    All human lives have the same value, and every human being has the inalienable right to be healthy to fulfill their potential.
-    The right to health is not the only right held by our patients. Other fundamental human rights are interrelated and just as inalienable.
-    All people need to stand in solidarity with those who find themselves at the margins of modern society.
-    The playing field needs to be leveled for those individuals who are born at a disadvantage (equity vs equality).
-    Injustice is not accidental but a direct result of structural violence and oppression. We can fight injustice by changing those dynamics.
-    It is our moral call to action to expose social injustice and to work toward correcting those systemic forces that create inequalities, no matter how impossible or challenging this task might look.

The cultivation, use, and trade of psychoactive substances — including psychedelics — has been a consistent aspect of human history, but prohibition, criminalization, and militarization — and their inherent oppression — have led to drastic consequences. The ongoing, global War on Drugs has been justified by bad science, racism, and fear for too long: it has led to mass incarceration; erosion of civil liberties; ecological damage; economic waste; and the public health polycrisis of adulteration, poisoning, and overdose. Many of these harmful effects have disproportionately impacted the most historically exploited and oppressed communities. Consequently, we believe societies worldwide have an obligation to account for and repair those harms, to the extent possible.

We create cutting-edge education for professionals and the public, provide expert support for the psychedelic and drug policy movement, and convene people who share our vision—all to lay the groundwork and create the guardrails necessary for responsible social transformation. 

As psychedelics become more mainstream and an increasing number of people seek to use them for healing and personal growth, we are more dedicated than ever to making resources available for people and communities to safely and responsibly integrate psychedelics into medical, legal, and spiritual contexts.
