Eugene's rapid growth threatens our last natural spaces.  Videra Oak Meadow – a rare Willamette Valley habitat -- faces potential development. Without timely action, this irreplaceable ecosystem could be lost forever.  I share in this organization's vision to preserve Videra Oak Meadow as a protected natural area, ensuring a lasting legacy for wildlife and future generations.

The Eugene Parks Foundation is committed to creating exceptional parks, open spaces, and trails for the Eugene community and visitors.  I  support their efforts for Eugene as a thriving, accessible parks and recreation system that improves health, brings community members together, conserves our environment, and enhances our quality of life!

Industrial logging practices along with potential forest management policy decisions can threaten water quality and availability, biodiversity, and fail to address climate change. Empowering coastal communities to thrive through sustainable conservation and stewardship of natural resources makes sense and I support their efforts to protect, restore, and enhance the ecological integrity of the Oregon Coast Range for future generations, the apparent focus of this organization.

Eugene Parks Foundation is focused on enhancing outdoor experience and promoting equitable access to a healthy lifestyle. 

Population Served

Many parks in Eugene’s urban corridor have received significant public investment, yet other community parks planned since the late 1990s are undeveloped. For example, the River Road/Santa Clara and Bethel neighborhoods, which have experienced residential development growth, do not have parks with specialty facilities, such as dog parks, spray play parks, community gardens, and walking/ running/ biking trails. We are prioritizing developing parks in underserved communities and under-resourced neighborhoods that serve low-to-moderate income families, LGBTQQIP2SA+, children and youth, individuals, and others who do not have access to outdoor recreational opportunities. We believe that Eugene residents deserve access to extraordinary parks and outdoor experiences regardless of where they live. We want EVERYONE to benefit from the demonstrated physical and behavioral health benefits and joy that community parks and open spaces can provide.

Client Needs and Projects

We have prioritized the Spray Play feature at the new Santa Clara Community Park to raise $400,000. With a groundbreaking set for winter 2023 and an anticipated opening in summer 2025, this 35-acre park adjacent to Madison Middle School will address a critical community need. Despite securing $7.5 million from city bonds, funding shortfalls persist for essential amenities such as a spray playground—a facility crucial for many local families with limited access to such recreational opportunities. 

Our other pressing projects include Ascot Fitness Station: We are developing an outdoor fitness park at Ascot Park with a $250,000 budget. 

Ridgeline Trail Expansion: We have raised 90% of the $650,000 needed to construct a 2.5-mile trail linking Spencer Butte to South Eugene Meadows. This trail will improve access for hikers, bikers, and runners. We are now seeking donors to help fund the remaining $70,000. 

Forest Ranch Acquisition: We have secured 75 acres for conservation and recreational use with a $800,000 matching grant. We are now tasked with raising an additional $280,000 to complete the purchase and stabilization of this vital natural habitat. 

Additionally, we require a capacity grant to implement a robust marketing and communication plan to expand our audience and donor base. This strategic enhancement will strengthen our community outreach and fundraising efforts, ensuring the success of our current and future projects.
